Today I will be rehabilitating something quite special. It was a lighter I collected from the Vietnam War. Exciting!!! It is imprinted with the history of the Vietnam war Please watch all the videos to see how great it is !!!

I’ve owned a few dozen Zippos and those date tags just don’t jive with the Zippo Documentation. There are no bottom stamp codes that match up with | | . | | | not to mention the alignment of the right side hashes, seeing that they are usually always the same on a particular years run, their alignment doesn’t move here and there from zippo to zippo. I know that lighters of these types were highly forged and can still be found for sale online and in Asia. I’d hate to be wrong, but I’d have to say mehhhh on this one. Anyone else have any thoughts?

i understand it was just a typo and you're not a native english speaker but i will use that as an excuse to hit y'all with some trivia, that the Zippo lighter was invented in 1933, so it couldn't have been used in WWI. also, George Grant Blaisdell, the guy who invented it, said he was inspired by a Australian lighter with a similar design, andhe called it Zippo because he just liked the word zipper and Zippo sounded more modern.

I'd love to know the history behind this. Was it sitting in the jungle for 50 years? Reunited with it's owner? Lotta labor for its restoration, so someone held it to be dear. Collector?

@@williambrandt9254 it's fake. Inscription is too neat to be hand-inscribed. And no American soldier will spell "because" wrongly. Also, there is no significant event happening at any location named Phu Rieng during the Vietnam war. That phrase "spend my time in hell in Vietnam" is very popular among fake Zippo's, just go Ebay and google that phrase, you'll see tons of similar ones popping up.

@@phoeben9764 Yet the Zippo logo and date code markings on the bottom match 1968 Zippos. And while there were no major offenses in Phu Rieng District, it did house several hamlets that were often patrolled by US Soldiers, and which were often raided by Viet Cong. I'm going to guess hell wasn't some major offensive that happened in a city area, but walking through the jungle everyday, patrolling these hamlets, and being ambushed by Viet Cong.

Within the first minute they say it’s from world war 1 (zippos didn’t exist until 1932) then the title says Vietnam war. And the date code on the bottom is a 1968 (so ok, it’s Vietnam era (IF ITS ACTUALLY REAL)) so I’m rather skeptical

That isn’t a WW1 Zippo. They weren’t introduced until 1933. This is a 1968 Zippo housing

Vincent Boucher by using either a cnc mill or make your own dies, even so you can tell it’s a fake because the insert has the wrong engraving and the bottom of a the lighter is in basically mint condition meaning it’s seen no real life use for the amount of damage it’s revived, plus the province and the year might be wrong idk I don’t have the book that tells which province for which years

@@troublogaming3613 province is most likely wrong. I am Vietnamese and did a search for that town name. No battle there except for a plantation strike in the 1930s.

@@troublogaming3613 What is wrong with the engraving on the bottom? Scipt Zippo and double III's are the markings for a 1968 Zippo. And you are wrong about the bottom being mint. Part of the first III is almost completely rubbed off, as is the top part of the Z in Zippo.

Why you bother to restore the insert? It is not the original insert - it is produced in last 15 years. You just had to buy new one for $5 and put it in the case :)

This Zippo was made between 70-71.The Roman numeral II identifies the year it's made.

This is the most embarrassing comment to read when everyone knows the Vietnam War is not part of World War 1 (1914-1918) or even World War 2 (1939-1945).
