Protip: If you like doing tricks, own a specific zippo for it. You're destroying your hinge doing this trick and others. I have a cheap simple brass for drunk nights out and tricks. If you have one that you like, try to avoid doing tricks at all costs. A properly cared for Zippo will last your entire life.

Reverse it, 2 fingers on the bottom, thumb on top back toward the hinge. Then your thumb is instantly available to light it.

I figured out how to really do this trick. The finger on the top has to be able to “slide” off the back of the lighter. Don’t literally push down you have to slide the finger off kinda like a snap

I found it easy making sure my fingers werent sweaty and when i push my fingers together and push downwards as if im just pinching my fingers together, not too hard but enough where it pops opens, i also like having the zippo upside down when i do it cause my fingers are pretty small and it just pops open more easier for me when its upside-down, i also like to experiment with my thumb placement to see how the zippo would land between my fingers, i mean i still drop it here and there but have been getting the hang of it ever since💯🔥

yeah it didnt make sense until I actually tried it, you're just squeezing it until your fingers slip into the holding position, and the force from your fingers falling flicks it open, or somthing like that

it's more like you're trying to pinch your fingers together to make them touch while letting the fingers ontop are just on the edge enough to still get enough pressure but then slip and slide down the side of the zippo causing it to open. (have ur fingers on top be close together and in the centre of the zippo, and the hindge pointing towards your palm)

Really late to this, but you really do squeeze. It’s moderately hard, and straight down, kinda let the top edge roll away from you. You don’t need to go off the sides or mess about with the hinge or anything, it just kinda works. Orientation kind matters. Broadside facing towards and away, skinny ones to the side. Hinge points to the rest of your fingers.

My advice, the weakest part of a zippo lighter is its hinge, and you will get wobbly hinges in the future and will affect its quality. I do my tricks on a cheap 10$ ones

It doesn't work. Saying to just squeeze it doesn't make sense. You have to be doing something else. It's cool to Watch you do it, but there is no way that it gets opened from having your fingers and thumb so far from the hinge and just squeezing it.
