When my Dad was stationed in Misawa, I remember we had to take a Japanese Culture class in elementary school on base. We had several options to chose from when it came to creating Japanese art and I chose woodcarving. I made a bass fish and I truly enjoyed the process. There's nothing as satisfying as watching your piece come to fruition.
@JAPAN-WOODCARVING2 жыл бұрын
You experienced wood carving in Japan. Making things is interesting. Thank you very much for your interesting story.
If you could bring a wood carving into your living space, would you choose a simple, traditional piece, or a highly creative and modern one? How do you think that sculpture would impact your space and your emotions?

This really is KZbin content at its very best. Now, I get to see something that’s so different from just what is shown around my neighborhood or immediate area - different even from what I see in my country! And it’s breathtakingly beautiful! I was fascinated throughout the entire process, and feel so lucky to have this amazing craft I had barely ever considered be shared with me! Thank you so so much!

Yes, it is a nice change to see actual talent on KZbin. This platform is flooded with mediocrity and garbage. Seeing a fellow artist who is exceptionally gifted, is like a refreshing breeze from Autumn's Breath.
@ScribbledCrayon Жыл бұрын
@@theshadowsovereign8914 With absolutely no disrespect intended, I'm going to have to disagree with you. KZbin is definitely full of plenty of things that are not to my taste, but that doesn't detract their value to someone else. It's not my place to judge, nor was I even asked to in the first place. I was mostly speaking to the phenomenon of the internet introducing me to something extraordinary created on the other side of the world that I never would have been exposed to otherwise. His work is truly breathtaking and I was blown away by watching it unfold!
So glad I was recommended this channel. Not only is your work beautiful but it was very relaxing to watch. Might I make one suggestion? Don’t add music. I enjoy just being able to hear the sounds of the cutting. Thanks and keep it up.

I agree, no music, or not that kind of annoying music
@steelman862 жыл бұрын
I didn't need the sound of the "music" OR the cutting or the blowing off of the shavings, so I simply turned the volume down and enjoyed the video....simple!! Beautiful job!
Your 3d spatial awareness is awesome. Even after you carve away the drawing you know what to do and redraw it again over the unfinished parts. Really awesome job.

what I love most about woodcarving videos, is how detailed the sketch is, only to be carved away in seconds :D

Whats the big deal? The dragon was already in there, he only had to remove the waste material. Kidding of course. To be able to visualize something like this is truly a gift, to then be able to carve it, amazing. Well done.
What an amazing and beautiful piece of art. The time-lapse of the creation was one of the most incredible and interesting videos I've seen. I will certainly look closer at this channel.

Wonderful! I remember as a child having been tought woodcarving with my grandfather, the pleasure of the blade movement sensation, and the satisfaction that comes with the wood slowly becoming the desired shape (I was carving an angel). I wish I have enough time to do it again
Ah! The use of the "feets" to secure one's material whilst keeping the hands free to work their magic...the sign of a truly accomplished, and skilled craftsman. Bravo, my good man. Most impressive, most insightful.

Your cutting knives are exquisite and razor sharp. I was wondering if you could make a video at one point of your Japanese sharpening technique, which I'm certain is also a long held traditional and rare art. Thanks for showing us your work, it's truly inspirational!

Thank you so much. I already have a video on how to sharpen, but it is in Japanese and there are no English subtitles. I will try to make a new video on how to sharpen again.

My Grand Father used to make things out of wood, if you couldn't find him in the house he was at the back of the garden in his shed wood working. There are not many artisan's in the world today who can do this kind of carvings. The Japanese people hold on to many traditions which i think is a great idea. New equipment and laser printing, 3D image printers make things much much quicker but for this man doing wood working and carvings are part of his heritage. honestly i prefer the old ways of carving this is a magnificent piece of art. I love Dragons and to see ancient carving that blow your mind on how they did them. this is magnificently done and done the old way. A very talented artisan indeed.
@JAPAN-WOODCARVING2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, and I'll do my best to produce pieces that have value that 3D printers don't!

Beautiful work. I am a woodcarving teacher always in search of new techniques and inspiration. This video has done both. It gives people a very small idea of the time it takes to create hand carved pieces. Art like this is expensive, because of the time and skill of those who make it. I was looking forward to buying some of the gouges you were using. Then I realized the yen to USD conversion = $75/tool! I guess I will just stick with my Pfeil (Swiss) gouges and won't be adding any Japanese tools just yet. Thanks for sharing your art.
