Zippo-Style 'Survival' Lighter Long Term Kickoff

This is day 0 for a long term review comparing some after market Zippo cases and alternatives. This review will cover 90 days attempting to assess long term effectiveness of these lighters with intermittent use. Checking in at 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90 day marks we will light the lighters for 5 seconds, reweigh and then put away.

I understand that it's for looks which is fine, but I don't think it's a good idea to have survival items in camo pattern like your bag for example. Like if you drop your lighter or a knife that has a camo pattern on the ground with foliage, it's going to be unnecessarily difficult or a pain to find. In such situation you want stuff to be as visible as possible, so there's a reason survival gear and rescue apparel usually come in bright vibrant colors like neon green or orange. I always make sure my backpacks or jacket's have the inside part in a very bright and light color, not only to find stuff easier inside the bag, but if the situation ever occurs that I'm stranded waiting to be rescued, I can turn the bag or jacket and use it as a flag to be seen easily. I think it's important to keep things like that in mind :)

Thanks for checking out the video that's a great point! Even color coding/organizing pouches based on function/need is super applicable in outdoor/survival/camping items. For an enhanced EDC I feel like earth tones are o-k though.

One could argue it depends of the situation. Sometimes not beeing seen could be the answer.

Thanks for watching Noli! All have their pros-cons. The zippo is a classic and def easier to operate with one hand than the exotac - but with very little water resistance. A zippo with the thunderbird soft flame insert still has the classic zippo feel but way better fuel efficiency/longevity.

Thank you for doing this test. I have been looking at the waterproof options for my Zippo. Do you see any initial design flaws of the Suprus case? I'm leaning towards buying it.

Thanks Craig for checking out the video! I would say the Suprus case is a really great "under the radar" option. The only thing (untested) is the plastic that that it's made out of. It feels a bit brittle - haven't done any drop tests or anything yet on it.
