I got one and after some adjustments I love it so much. I think the button size is fine and have never misfired cuz it’s too small. I loaned my lighter to a guy and he said to me “too bad it’s not a real Zippo” referring to the yellow flame button. I assured him it was and then he proclaimed how much better he thought the modification was. So kudos to Zippo and the new flames.

I have been so pleased with mine. I was worried about the made in China aspect, but it really feels like quality and I have no issues with it. I feel like I’m betraying the classic by using butane, but better is better. I’ll probably move back to naphtha in the colder weather but I am pleased as punch with this butane insert. My wife won’t be using it because she thinks the button is too small.

Yeah I have to say when zippo said they were over seeing quality they weren’t joking. I’ve had 1$ refillable ronsons in the 90’s that were shaped like clippers they lasted years and years I threw them away before they were broken. I think these are gonna hold up way longer than people think.

I only use the butane insert in table lighter. Don’t use it all the time more of a display. But when I want to use it I want it to work. That’s why the butane is nice. But my edc is always zippo fluid

Thanks for this, it helped me decide whether to get the soft flame or not. I'm a pipe smoker and the pipe inserts are ok until I get about halfway through the bowl, then I have to suck like a $5 hooker to get the flame down into the bowl on relights in taller bowls, so this should solve that problem. I've really been enjoying many of your videos too and learning a lot, especially with the fluid hacks, but didn't realise your original channel was not active now. I only knew about the old one being hacked because you mentioned it in one of your newer videos (maybe this one?) so I've subbed here too. Looking forward to more of your vids in the future and thanks again for sharing all these tips, reviews, and fixes.

If that soft flame Zippo cameout before the torch I wouldn't have bought the Torch. That new Zippo insert is perfect for us who don't smoke. It's not yet sold here in Philippines as of yet. I tried using Thyrm Case after 1 month only very little fluid is left which is enough to ruin the wick. I didn't open the case 1 month it's got o-ring seal yet it still evaporates. That new yellow flame Zippo is the way to go. 🔥👍

I think this gonna last a very long time to be honest. Soft flame is so basic for internal parts. This thing is heavy and well built. Good flint wheel and tube. Gonna get years out of these.

I have all the current Zippo inserts, in case people don't know there's actually four of em. The Single jet-flame, the Double jet-flame, the 4-pin Plasma and this Flint-wheel butane. I like all of em and rotate their usage. Great video man, nice camera work and narration!

I agree with you that the majority of people who use lighters regularly today, aka smokers, appreciate the much cleaner burning and more convenient butane fuel rather than zippo fluid. It does have a tendency to alter the smoking experience of cigarettes so these inserts would appeal to a wider audience and hopefully more people will get into Zippos. I'm really liking the look of this, although I use a Zorro jet insert for EDC and a regular brass plated insert for camping and outdoors, having that zippo brand and feel for a butane insert looks really cool. I'm going to hold off for a bit until I get a bit of info on the longevity and potential flaws of the insert, which I would love if you made a video on in the future. Thanks for letting me know about this I literally didn't even know this was a thing until your vid came up

@@skgate Well yea I did say the majority not everyone. I do love the original liquid fuel inserts and run them daily but most people just tend to use disposable butane lighters. They aren't good for the environment or as mature and striking as a regular Zippo. I think most people don't care much about the look of their lighters and probably like cleaner burn of butane. It's a sad reality but it is what it is.

Really interesting design, I think I might get it once I can buy a high polished chrome case for it. The design in some ways seems actually more practical without a case since you press the button rather than release the lever next to the lid for gas. But it looks better in a case by far and it protects the insert, so the button is kinda just there if you use it with a case.

If I can add...for best long-term results always use ultra or super refined butane like _Newport Zero_ virtually impurity free. This type of butane prevents the nozzle from clogging up after long-term use.

I actually prefer the button instead of butane lock by the cam. Just wastes fluid use it when I need it. Sometimes I’m doing things and leave the lid open. But I would prefer flame adjuster as mine is rather large. But works for me my zippo fluid flame is always large as well but being able to adjust would be clutch

But these are like tanks. Far superior quality than the after market ones. I have them all here in front of me. U can see better designs and better materials being used.

I am getting my first Zippo and cant decide on whether I should also get this insert. I don't smoke but I want something that would be good in the event that I need to start a fire and is fun to fidget with. I dont like how the regular insert requires more maintenance and the fuel evaporates but I also am concerned that I won't like the lack of wind resistance on the butane lighter.

Nice man glad u stopped here on your journey lol if u don’t smoke 100% get this insert. The wind resistance doesnt mean anything. Just like a bic lighter hold your hand on the side it will work. Butane torches are wind resistant but they are finicky to a new comer. The yellow flame insert is reliable always works. U get to change to flint. It’s a good inert. They have a new yellow flame pipe insert. Where the flame comes out the side. More wind resistant than this one. Mines in the mail right now. Can’t wait to get it

It's a great insert, but the unadjustable flame size is a definite drawback. The size is not standardised - some are bigger, some smaller at factory level. You got the medium-sized flame, which is perfect :) My first one creates a 7cm flame! - it alway takes people aback when they want to light up their cigarettes, such flame is too big andmit uses up the butane quicker. Other than that, a great insert!

A few questions about butane if you don't mind: - does butane evaporate if you don't use it for months/years ? - Will it evaporate in hot areas like ner the equator? - do they last longer than normal lighter fuel?

I have had two single torch and both have given hassle! The first one leaked! I could smell the gas although I thought I was imaging it? No problem getting a replacement from the Zippo importer here in the UK! The second one had an offset filler spout so I think the over seas quality is off a little? This was replaced also but they more or less implied i had bent it filling it! Even though there was no hint of gas in it? The Zippo warranty is awesome, we all know it but they seem to be less interested in the butane inserts IMHO!

I tried bending my armor case to make it tighter but it seems impossible since it's really alot thicker compared to regular Zippo Case. Scotch Tape (office transparent tape) works to some extent but it's messy when you need to refill your lighter then comes a time you really have to change the tape & clean the tape residue before installing a new one but it helps. My knockoff Zippo is really easy to bend & works perfect with a Zorro insert, both made from same country.

Lol to be honest it fits in every single zippo I have no issues. But if u want to get around the tape issue. Use my sandwich bag trick. Makes it so much easier than using and tape. And tape is gonna leave sticky residue everywhere after long time use. Do not continue using tape. I know a lot of people in the comments recommend it and on other channels recommend using tape. But I never do because of that exact reason

I pre-cut alot of sandwich bag plastic but they are not uniform in sizes but somehow still works. If I have time I will try cutting sandwich bag plastic uniformly I think it would be better. Sometimes the residue of the tape is what stops the Zippo Case from moving up which I kinda like but the problem is when you need to fill your insert you have to clean up the residue sometime or it will buildup.

Honestly buddy. Zippo is far superior than thunderbird. Thunderbird is cheaply Made with cheap parts and they all broke on me without a few months. They don’t honour they’re warranty. Making it useless shit. They suck back butane because as soon as the lid is open it starts releasing butane. They leak because of that set up Also. Zippo soft flame is 200% the way to go. I stand by these and the great quality insert. This isn’t gonna break and last years. Plus they have 2 year actual honoured warranty by a trusted company.

I'm really intrigued by this, and want to get it. But, the issue with the cam and the flame height is making me hesitant. The cam thing, does it impair the lighter from working correctly? Like the lid not opening? Or is it more of an inconvenience thing? The flame height, i have a beard, so I'd be a little concerned. I smoke cigarettes daily & the refilling of regular inserts is kind of annoying to be honest. Usually i revert back to Bics because of this. Would you say this is still worth it? I do have a torch version of the zippo insert, not too crazy about it, haven't used it in a long time, just sits in my drawer. It got a little too close for comfort when lighting a cig. Not really practical when smoking cigs. I love my Zippo's, i really want to be able to use them daily.

I don’t find this insert a problem or hassle at all I absolutely love them. I also am a daily smoker with long head hair and beard hair. Have never had to worry about it with the bigger flame on these. It’s still just a soft flame. And if your outside and there’s a breeze it stays lit better than a bic does. Not a huge a difference but much easier to lit. I love this thing. I think it’s worth it. Built to last also. The system is very simple and basic u could use this for years and enjoy your favourite zippos.

But I’m gonna take it apart one day and figure out a way to adjust the flame smaller. It is a common comment on the channel. And your right it chews through butane with the big flame.

I had to use the case I used for my torch insert because the insert for my 1935 replica will not fit into the torch case. Some of my other zippo inserts will fit into it, but it is an original case so I don’t know why it is smaller. I’ll keep my yellow flame insert in the torch case and continue to use it. First thing I did was to lubricate the cam mechanism which I would have known to do if not for your video.

My issue with the butane insert is not being able to keep the flame going unless my finger is on the button. I dislike this for lighting pipes or cigars, it makes it a little awkward. And i really do not like that it is made in China... Although one thing is you can carry the insert as a lighter in and of itself without a case. That is nice.

I also like not being forced to push down a button, but I think that it's practical for those who have a tendency to drop the lighter. That way the flame will extinguish automatically and there's no risk of burning the floor or carpet.

The vapors from the fuel make it so that i have to wave my zippo around or blow air in order to get a flame, even when i dont over fill. I just put a new wick in sandwiched in the middle or the cotton and in a s pattern, thanks. Workd better than ever. I just used jumbo cotton balls, will try and order some cotton bacon.

I could never get the zippo yellow insert to light consistently. takes 5+ attempts to light every time. Zippo even sent a replacement that had the same problem. I even tried 4 different brands of butane nothing would work. Got frustrated and gave up. Such a waste.
