I believe Galante had other reasons for using Zips. Yes he expected loyalty, but Galante was on probation and prohibited from associating with known criminals. By hiring Bonventre and Amato who at the time weren't known to law enforcement, Galante avoided parole violation while having bodyguards. Thanks for posting this. I"m from the this area of the Queens/Brooklyn border and remember shopping on Knickerbocker Ave.

For sure man I also think that it was a way to circumvent the American mobs “ban” on narcotics. (So he was only supervising not dealing) (as Johnny sack says “we bend more rules than the Catholic Church”Thanks! Glad you liked it! Means a lot! More to come!

Fully agree that's why they are bad ass. I think the American mobsters used it in a derogatory manner because they were intimidated.

btw- I still go down to Knickerbocker Ave to eat Circo's pastries and sometimes drive by 205 Knickerbocker. In the decades I've been doing so, I notice the location of Joe and Mary's is always vacant.

I’ve been to Circos many times! Yeah Joe and Mary’s used to be a taco place when I first moved here.
