We saw this when I was in Kindergarten. Thanks to Sid Davis and the Arlington County Public School system I still have trouble sitting next to a person of the opposite sex in a movie theatre.

I find it interesting that while I was a child of the 70's, I'm only now discovering these Sid Davis films. Especially as I was attending public school in Los Angeles, where these films were made. We were cautioned all about stranger danger, but plenty of us walked home from school by ourselves. And we did encounter these creepy types now and then.

We were bombarded with the Sid Davis films in the early 1970s when I attended elementary school. I believe we watched some of the more 'mature' themes in Jr high school; but what scared us in Jr high was 'The Oakland County Child killer' in Oakland County, Michigan in 1976 & 1977. I shudder just thinking about that now. As of this writing, they never caught the killer.

Love the production music used here. IMO I believe one of the composers used (mentioned on the My Little Margia description in that video's description) is Alexander Laszlo, as some of the music near the end is somewhat similiar (the theme from that sitcom in turn reminds me a tad of "Holiday for Strings', the WWII orchestra pop hit by Dave Rose, Judy Garland's future hsuband).

That girl was very good for telling a manager about the man's antisocial behaviour at the cinema and the manager told the man to leave the cinema for his antisocial behaviour towards her. Manager: Alright, pal, that's just enough. Out you go! You're banned from all cinemas across this country for your antisocial behaviour.

When I was 18 years old, Mommy told me to walk to Wawa to buy some butter since we ran out. I walked to Wawa and I held the door open for this guy. He thanked me. After I bought the butter, I held the door open for the same guy, who was carrying a whole lotta bags. He thanked me again. When I was walk home, the guy pulled up to me in his car and asked me if I wanted a ride ho e. I just said no thank you and he just said, "are you sure? Because I got candy." And I said, "no thanks. Thank you for your kind offer, but I already ate and I'm full." Then the guy just drove away. I didn't tell Mommy because I was scared that she was gonna be mad at me for encountering a stranger, but I told my therapist about it. Mommy was there with me. She then asked, "well why didn't you tell me about this?" And I said, "I was afraid that you were gonna be mad at me. And Mommy said, "well I'm very proud of you for saying no to that stranger. Next time a stranger asks you for a ride, tell me about it."

When I was 14 years old, I missed the bus for school and I just had to wait out in the pouring rain. Just then, this lady came up to me in her car. She asked me if I wanted a ride to school. I just said no and ran home. I was very scared. Mommy asked me what was wrong and I said, "this lady wanted to give me a ride to school." And then Mommy asked me, "do you even know her?" And then I said, "not at all." And then Mommy got the home phone. The lady then came knocking at the door and I said, "that's the lady!" Mommy then recognized her and put the phone down. She answered the door and gave the lady a hug. Turned out, the lady turned out to be one of her good friends. She then introduced me and then the lady gave me a ride to school. At first, I thought she was a stranger. When I was 18 years old, I was walking home from Wawa. This guy came up to me in his car and asked me if I wanted a ride home. I just said, "no thank you." And then he asked, "are you sure?" And then I said, "yes. I'm sure. I have legs. I can walk." And he said, "I have candy." And I said, "no thank you." And then he just drove away. I ran home. I didn't tell Mommy because I was afraid that she might get mad at me. (The reason why I'm calling my mother Mommy is because I have autism.) But then, I told my therapist and I told her about it and Mommy said, "why didn't you tell me about this when it happened?!" And then I said, "because I was scared that you might get mad at me."

It is strange... do bad guys prefer shabby cars? Or perhaps because he's a shady guy he's driving a shabby car - any "decent" person wouldn't go driving around in a shabby car, yes? They had elevated consciousness about one's appearance and demeanor in public back then.

I don't think calling the girls dumb and telling the kids they're asking for trouble is right in an educational film.
@epaburke
@epaburke 8 жыл бұрын
This film is so uneven--the cartoon character makes it unacceptable to show to a young audience today. I wonder about calling the behavior dumb. Adults in trouble will go to fabulous lengths to resist this label, and maybe some kids are no diifferent. Saying the stranger was trying to "make trouble" was more to the point, and keeps the wrong in his behavior, not the child's. Unfortunately, this is a message some children ignore, even today. Telling them it's "wrong" doesn't work. Too many wrong things are fun, or they're approved of sometimes, but not others. The children might resist telling, even later, when a missing child might be found. It's true the kids think they are clever, or that they forget, or that they think nothing can happen to them, just this once. They do know, sometimes. A film that really shows more situations, and what to do--all of the teaching positive--what to do, not what not to do--might work best. Show the little girl saying "no, you're a stranger". Show it again and again, with different situations, and different children. Cool children. TV star children, even.
