Standing waves are something else! I had stacked up 5 footers coming back into st Lucie inlet and I was going back and forth from idle to 70% throttle to avoid falling into the 10 foot trough in front of me, was on a 20ft boat and had to slow to the point that I almost lost directional control.. Love to drone footage, and a lot of horsepower and a deep V hull gets you smoothly through a heavy swell. But the guys at 4:48 had better check the starboard engine, as black smoke shows its either faulty injectors, a faulty injector pump, or a bad air filter.

I am shocked how close the boats navigate to one another at Haulover. You almost never see that here in the SF bay. Even traveling under the golden gate bridge, boats stay well away from each other. The current is tricky and deceptive here, many novice boaters drown as the water seldom reaches 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Your first man overboard experience is usually your last if you are not wearing a survival suit. That and the monster great whites cruising the coast, keep sailors respectful of the sea.

You can tell which guys are locals....you can stick the the right side of the inlet and still have plenty of water.
@davidbayles64945 жыл бұрын
Most locals do know their respective inlets well but some don't. Smart captains aren't going to follow someone outside the channel because they don't know if the other boat is local or ignorant. Also, those boats going right are smaller than the others. The inlet is very deep there between the breakwaters, then the next two red nuns take you to port. There is a "Dangerous wreck, depth unknown" on the chart along with a shoal to avoid by following the marked channel. These big boats draw 5+ feet and the wheels are frickin' expensive. If they didn't catch anything up, then most of the boats are headed to Sunset Marina anyway.
