For those who don't know how to navigate an inlet with a hard outgoing tide, here are some hints. Going out is not so bad, you do have to watch the fact that if you are not going faster than the tide, you can loose the ability to navigate(turn). Coming in is the tricky part. The rule you want to follow is never let your bow dip down, the tide will pull it under. The safest way is to put your bow on the back of a wave, match it's speed, and follow it in. When the wave dissipates if there are no more waves to fall off of, you can take off. One thing you have to remember. When you are maneuvering to enter the inlet and get on the back of your wave, make sure no wave sneaks up behind you and lifts your stern. This will also make your bow dive down and can be disastrous. So in summary, going in on and outgoing tide, don't go over the top of a wave and fall off and don't let a wave catch up to you from behind. Make sure you boat has enough power to keep up with the outgoing tide while pushing on a wave. This can be tricky if you think you have a super fast boat, but it's propped just for speed, it still might not have the power to keep you in position.

There's been a few days that my 36 yellowfin (and me knowing what in doing at the helm) felt like not enough boat. Skill at the helm makes any boat "bigger" (meaning knowing what you are doing makes your boat handle rough stuff better then a bigger boat that has a less skilled pilot at the helm) but some times the rollers are spaced just right to really make it tough... I have never been out there in rhr 36 and felt dangerous but it will wake you up on rough days... A lot of days are pretty smooth but HO can get nasty that's for sure.

A small boat (often inflatable or rib) that sits on the back of a larger boat/yacht that can be lowered into the water to allow the crew to get to shore whilst the bigger boat is anchored off shore. Also used for recreational stuff like exploring from the larger boat. When you don't have mooring to a quay it is the only way to get to shore unless you want to swim. The bigger the big boat, the bigger the tender can be, some tenders are quite large and may actually reside within the body of the larger boat.
