But also the space between us, me and the crew of the USS Zisteauprise. We're just humans, see? We inhabit bodies. But also the space between the living and the dead, because Science Officer Svensen is dead, and I'm not. Rest in Peace Science Officer Svensen.

I've played over a 1500 hours of this mod, even solved the unsolvable puzzle, taken a year off, and yet this man has made it interesting again. Also, I could swear auto-save lies in wait for the worse possible moment.

@@axelander_ish Apparently it wasn't strictly necessary, but I did use a fair bit of linear algebra. Mostly by writing python scripts to do it for me.

Concerning pacing, that was also my experience when starting out with Factorio and when going bobs angels. Research current stuff very quickly and then stare at the stuff to find a working design to build ;)

I find that to be the case for many similar games, like Dyson Sphere Project. It's very hard to have a consistent research/upgrade system where it takes about as long to research the things as it takes to build all the new stuff and fit them into the base. In one direction, you have things like this, where you research new things much quicker than you can implement them, and in the other direction you have too long research times that just make it feel grindy. Or waity.

When I played Bobs/Angels, I had to self-limit my research for exactly that reason. Any time I researched a new building, or a new process that would alter how things work, or a new resource, I would make sure I had incorporated that before I researched anything else. It meant that I "wasted" a lot of time on non-optimal middle stages, I guess, but the alternative was getting utterly overwhelmed with a million new things at once.

@@AnotherDuck Yeah, as there is such a wide range of experience and aptitude in players (I prefere to go for a nice arbitrary but high number of science packs right out of the gate instead of plonking down a few assemblers and then start to scale while researching), both experiences (waiting for research and being overwhelmed by new stuff) will always happen to someone. Maybe one could scale research costs to the production capability of the players base. But that would probably be felt as punishing and not well received. A tax system might be more interesting. Where one has to consume X science per minute to be able to keep using the technology. Basically the evil corporation wants patent fees for their stuff. With higher costs for higher technologies. Through one runs into game design problems where the player looses tools to recover from black/brownouts in the production that they need to fix them. Maybe make the lower tiers of research excempt from the taxation system once research on the next higher tier is started.

@@Elbrasch I generally think that maintenance costs only slow down the game and make it more tedious by adding extra work to the player for no benefit. To some degree, it's fine, like with power production, but there you always gain things. With tax on science, it's a double cost, since first you have to research it, and then you have to maintain it with the same method. It forces you to scale up, and limits your options, as opposed to just advancing slower like you do if you don't scale up.

judging by the white text on the left side of the screen the mk2 jetpack has an acceleration of 39.22 (on the space station at least also no idea what the mk1 was without going digging if its even there) and putting in the 2nd mk2 took it up to 65.36 so there does definatly seem to be some level of diminishing returns with the jetpacks

I regret this. Purple/energy/holmium was sooooo much simpler to get a basic rig set up T_T but i wasnt planning a full set up until i get the combined researches... incredibly better T_T still super fun and rewarding tho

Technically you don't need that extra arithmetic combinator multiplying signals by -1. Signals are additive on the wire, so just constant desired signals with minus values, and enable delivery cannon's inserters on less then zero condition.

I guess the easiest way to bring cosmic water and chemical gel production "under control" is just putting them into good old tanks and limiting production based on the tank contents; you might also end up having additional sources for either of them.. but that's for later.

I got about 150 hours into a krastorio 2 and space exploration playthrough. Then a few months ago I woke up saw an update so I clicked it that's when I fucked up. 150 hours gone in seconds.

you should "program" many rockets (1 rocket for each material) to send them to orbit to landing pads where they unload into a belt itll be cheaper or at least so much easyer in the long run when you do that oh and have 1 rocket for building things and a second for scaffolding

How does the radiator for the superliquid (the purple stuff) work? A terrestrial radiator radiates heat into the atmosphere, in space you'd need to provide a second medium for the heat to be absorbed by

Irl, NASA uses sublimation coolers. These are self regulating and require minimal moving parts. Put simply, it's a plate full of micro-pores where one side is fed water and the other side is exposed to the vacuum of space. Liquid water can't exist at such low pressure and temperature because it is below the "triple point" so it immediately freezes in the pores, blocking water from continuously leaking out of the plate. Coolant that is carrying heat is passed through the water, transferring its heat, causing the ice in the porous plate to sublimate directly into steam, carrying the heat with it into space. More water flows into the pores, it freezes, process repeats. Basically water vapor is the second medium that carries the heat away.

Please remember KZbin did effect a lot of creators wallets as well he might be in partnership with twitch to post only there. Plus the content wheel burn out and algorithms veiws overall to the channel daily making the content. Here a bit of hint the 1st series video would alway do the best and promote the channel causing the algorithm to favor your channel and if you title your series as a movie with long xontent you would do better then short videos series. You should look at Captain sparklez channel at the classic maps series he explained it in his own map that he made about KZbin itself.

Hey Zed, couldn't you make one central capsule factory and then shoot a capsule full of capsules to everywhere instead of the crafting materials? Something like a fuel resupply train in train networks.

You can technically do this with cargo rockets, sending the rocket segments, space capsules, and a ton of rocket fuel. If possible, setting up rocket fuel production locally makes it a lot more rocket-efficient. You can send about 23-24 rockets worth of rocket segments if you don't bring the fuel. Not to mention that with enough research, more and more rocket parts can be recycled, so sending it this way ends up less expensive than delivery cannons in the long run, at the cost of being really clunky due to the massive inventory size.
