SoD Classic IS DEAD...But, Should You Play WoW Cataclysm Classic

I'm sad to say it but SoD Phase 3 feels kinda dead and with Cata Classic being the only other option on the horizon, what should we really play?

I wont be touching cata , nor any other version of the game they want us to play just enough on each version of the game so we count as daily active players across all of there games instead of actually spending the time and creating something worth playing they would rather push recycled garbage at us over and over again

I've been having an absolute blast playing Cata, and im glad i made the jump kinda early coming over a month before Cata Classic prepatch. In 2010, I played Cata but I also had a major drug problem, so experiencing everything again through a more clear lens has been a real enjoyable experience as I've gotten more mature, experienced other games, and been sober. So one thing I would urge people to do, is actually give Cata a shot, level a character and actually go out in the world and quest. You aren't stuck in one place for more than a 5-6 quests max and if all you know is the old Azeroth then you'll at least appreciate what they tried to do with the new one.

they said in a recent interview it is really hard to port sod characters because they would lose their runes etc. it seems unlikely that you will have a home. maybe you can port your rune-less character and..lose all your gear. feels not ideal lol

SoD was a Cata waiting room for me and most of my guildies. My SoD guild just announced they were done raiding as well. Don't think i'll be returning regardless of what they announce. SoD has ran its course for me.

@@NOHITJEROME I feel it. At the end of the day play what you enjoy. I think there's a lot more substance in Cataclysm than in SoD. SoD was fun at first, but the raiding is just way too boring for me. I am very much welcoming Cataclysm's more difficult raids (yeah I know postnerf blah blah). Like I said, SoD served its purpose for me, I will not be back.

10 to 20 man raid was a good tine to do in P3. Gets everyone a full phase to get ready for p4. P4 is amazing with the amount of different things to do. Will be a blast and will be interesting to see what they do with pally and shamans

@@NOHITJEROME I think they do, sadly just not at blizzard. Long post: the problem we see is pandering to the most vocal in all walks of life currently. Without getting too political, we see movies nowadays pandering to the 12 people on twitter who demand a political stance in everything, which leads to as an example Disney films making far less than they used to. In wow terms, there is 100% an audience, albeit smaller that want a classic feeling game. By that I mean, no layers, no megaservers, slower combat where content can't be zerg pulled and aoed down - slow and methodical game play in a world that feels vast. We lose all of that in the philosophy of retail - quality of life "improvements" take the design in an entirely different direction. Fast travel everywhere, auto queue for everything, cross play with everyone to ensure efficiency and ability to game at 4am. The cost to this is zero sense of scale or community. These are the intrinsic values of classic - yet the most vocal group are those calling for small servers to be closed, transmog, summoning stones etc. They all chase a quality of life / efficiency philosophy and utterly destroy what made classic so iconic.

They sure exist, i quit retail about 2014 after mop with breaks after wotlk because it looked like a game for the masses that gives people satisfaction nonstop from small stupid easy things to gather. So since 2016 i was playing era by choise, in era you focus more on people and you learn them to play with them, you group up to help people and generally it has an RP aspect, with changes like arena garison or nonstop adding zones and other stupid modes they managed to make the world empty, todays wow is nothing like era, (born in 92 started with runescape then tbc)

I raid log 1 toon in SoD and im all in CATA BABY! Praying that the Dev’s make it so i dont have to level both at the same time. SoD took up wayyyy too much time leveling just one toon to be raid ready I had to let my other 4 level 40’s stay behind. But i def have many many toons in Cata that I can raid/PvP etc

Damn, i remember clearing firelands heroic with my guild before the Rag nerf. It was one week before it was implemented and we got to say we did it. We smashed our heads against it for weeks and when we finally did it, was a feeling i can't describe. Also our warlock got the legendary staff and orgrimmar changing while it happened was awesome. SoD was my focus, but then they butchered Lava Lash which forced a guild move which made me lose a rare name, just raid logging there now. however, I have the rare name on the same class in Cata (haven’t touched this toon since TBC, even have prepatch tabard) which I initially had 0 interest in. turns out, Cata & SoD are extremely similar, kind of hate to admit it lol. will be focusing on legendary staff in Cata now :)

Pre patch cata been the most fun i had in long time. Running around in wrath gear doing PvP with the best gear vs other players with best gears feelt so much better than players with weak gear pvp those with OP gear. Not often you get close to real pvp that pre patches have to offer.

For SOD i will say 2 things . first one is to keep all raids at 10 man evening the end game raid like naxx for example and many others at 60, second for the love of god or not enable all meeting stones with no level requirements. 😊

I can barely catch up. I'm mythic raiding in retail every wednesday/monday + doing my m+ for vault. On sundays i'm doing 2 splits in cata. On fridays im doing 2 splits in sod. On thursdays i'm raiding with my other 2 characters in cata, playing with my 2 other alts in retail just for buillon farming or lvling up a 5th character in cata. On tuesdays I normally do the left over chores in any client, like world buffs in sod for example. In generalI'm up to my neck with things to do ingame and i'm just a casual in any of it's version. Now, with the summer starting too, I think i'll stop with retail (since gearing is almost over) and fully focus on cata and p4 (i'll only play 1 character in sod p4 though, i want to squeeze everything out of cata).

Once it became clear there would be no Wotlk era server, what point was there to try keep clearing ICC and to get BiS? Cata was coming and everything would be wiped anyway. Natural player count would fall off.

P1 SoD was great because there were a lot more devs at Blizzard. Once they merged with a Microsoft and the layoffs of the devs occurred, it caused a split in attention of which game needed to be more invested into. IMO, releasing SoD when the Blizzard/Microsoft merger was in the finally stages was a terrible idea because SoD needs constant attention like it did in P1 and merging of companies lead to layoffs of the merged company more often than not.

I've been playing SoD as a 100% PvP player. I've done all the raids once, but other than that nothing but WPvP and BGs, but have not played since the PvP damage nerf. It feels weird to make this retail style adjustment considering Classic has always been extremely bursty, where even a Rogue in blues can kill you in a stunlock, or shamans could EM+CL+ES and take you from 100-0 in one global, and SoD was presumably aimed at people who liked classic. I still have a month or so left on my sub, I tried Cataprepatch but it just didn't grab me. Unless they revert their blanket pvp damage nerf (very unlikely) I guess I'm done. No complaints, SoD was very good and fun for these couple months, and I'd be optimistic at the next "season" but the current PvP gameplay doesn't justify a sub on its own.

incursions were the reason I threw in the towel .... sod was my 1st game and i picked warlock horde on lonewolf cause my og friend asked me to try .... i fell in love but man its dead dead now... back to old school runescape

osrs always a good safety blanket. classic just needs to take osrs's lead. imagine classic being constantly updated and worked on and if there were more long term / endgame grinds to work towards

Loving the new vids man. Cata > SoD. I stopped SoD months ago. seemed worse than retail to me, and was NOT classic anymore. I've been prepping on cata prepatch for 3 main toons for awhile now. Can't wait! Love ya brother!

Cata pre patch into the launch of season 4 D4 then we get MoP remix after that we go into Cata ! After I’m 85 and done gearing phase 4 and I’m 60😂 this is a lot of fun ! 😢 shame all I see is crying from you guys

They drew SoD out a bit too long, this phase was fun initially. But quitting before p4 and level 60 seems kinda dumb. No interest in Cata so been playing other games for now. Pumped for phase 4.

As someone who played and raided in cata consistently, I can honestly say I won’t be touching it at all. To me it was the end of the world that I enjoyed and came to love, despite the streamlining of quests that 100% made leveling a much easier experience than classic. Cata is when the game stoped being an MMO and started being just a game, one geared more toward solo play.

Play whatever version of the game resonates with you the most. Whether it be Retail, Cata, SoD, Hardcore…whatever. After 20 years it should come as no surprise that people want different things out of the game.

hey dylan that's a good approach. the thing is, the decision isnt always made for us. if sod doesnt have an update for 4 months or retail, then you are forced into one choice. not that i complain, i will enjoy kicking gnomes in cata :D

Tbh some days I feel like playing the less flashy but more in depth Vanilla, other days I want to see big numbers on my screen like in Legion..even days where I feel like flying around Outland. My wish is that we could get to play the expansion we want, when we want it. Like an enhanced Time-Walking system. However, I don’t see how it would be possible to simultaneously run all these versions of the game cohesively.

I am just tried of both SOD and Classic community. So I am jumping ship to the MOP remix and not worry about the wow economy, Gear Score, WCL or other BS the community likes to toss at. The recent interviews and the pre patch of cata is not doing it any favors. Maybe I will jump back to Cata or SOD depends on how the devs manage it. My favor quote from one of the interviews was "Archaeology is FUN!" " Yellow Dots are exciting " mean while I am watching streamers and old guild mates farming for 100s of hours.

@@NOHITJEROME it was fun at first, like major hit of nostalgia with a twist. But, the focus on “end game” at lvl 25, people sweating “BiS” gear, taking it too serious…made it not fun. I appreciate the experimental nature of the seasonal server and the potential for a real Classic Plus. I think people taking it too serious and not having fun made it unappealing.

SoD ftw! Blizzard 🥶 made big mistakes this season and really hurt the economy badly with incursions.. This is why they really have to step up their game literally, and rather take their time to perfect this up and coming final lvl bracket phase. They already know player's love SoD, so just do it right and make sure to TEST EVERYTHING so they don't have to release something that they end up having to fix when it's pretty much too late. Like time and time again. I'm still really excited for P4 and farming rep on my main character. I have a feeling they won't fuck it up this time. 🤞

BFD was solid, gnommer was meh, and once ST got nerfed before majority of runes were discovered most of our guild called it quits. The idea was cool but after a bit, it's just vanilla wow with later expansion abilities. The player base is to whiney and cant handle anything more than watch your aggro mechanics. Tbh even that is to hard for a lot of the players. Doesnt have to be mythic plus crazy content, but it can have some bite to it. I stopped playing p3 b4 i tried ST but i wasnt a fan of the nerfs they dealt out to bfd and gnommer considering they were only hard the 1st time you went throught and by 3rd time it was a cake walk. Its just weird how so many people want free loot and feel like its fun. I get not needing to be a pro team to clear content, but its nard hard to take 15m to set up a plan especially when there soooo many yt spoon feeding you strats.

the balance is the hardest part brandon - if they make the raid hard a lot of players will just never complete it. gnomeregan was not completed by a lot of players. i think blizz wants to make all the raids easy from here on out. they just get burned making things hard. i hope you come back for p4 though it will be fun

SoD is only quiet atm because majority of the player base can’t sit still for 5 minutes with the current content and have to jump between the new fads popping up here and there, cata will hold their attention for a couple weeks/month and then phase 4 will launch and cata will be dead and sod alive….then rinse repeat with whatever new fad pops up in 4 months time

Here's the problem no one seems to be commenting on. Wow's population is old. It's always going to skew to an older demographic who has already experienced this content before in some form of fashion. Compare this to the 12yo kid who wants to play Genshin Impact for the first time and is just learning about how to raid with his friend. Time works against WoW and nothing they can do can resolve an aged community. Want player-driven raid-gold incentives? Too bad, GDKPs spammed every global chat & became a prime source for off-loading illicit gold. Want new runes that make contextual sense and enrich the current lore? Too bad, everyone's figured out every location now get your meta runes before raid or we're not taking you to raid. Be considerate. Want new changes to liven up old class metas so its not just World of Warrior? Too bad, it's World of Shaman now. This is just an endless treadmill of content. I quit WoW ages ago because all it seemed to be was the dying player population going from one version of the game to another due to FOMO. Horrible way to run 3-5 different versions of the same game and exhausting.
