Thank you guys for.making these videos! I'm a new mechanic (well, new owning a shop). And I've been learning the hard way how people get their cars fixed for free. Mainly, leaving it on my lot over night and coming and getting it after hours with a spare key. Sometimes waiting across the street and watching until I go to the bathroom. I'm about to go out of business. If I have to eat any more compressors, I won't be able to make rent.

Progress payments are key. Lots of them. Break big jobs into smaller modular contracts with payment schedules. Contract B work does not start until contract A is paid in full and so forth.Also Labor only contracts when possible, purchaser buys materials & makes payments on labor in modular contracts. Why wait months to maybe get paid?? Hell to the naugh- to the naugh naugh

It also has a lot to do with trust as well. All contractors know how the biz is and can be. And as such how cut throat it can get. As stated "rob Paul in order to pay Peter". They might not state it but there are some real dirtbags out there.

Preliminary notice can use during commercial jobs ? Or it’s only for residential jobs? I’m a subcontractor

Let’s say someone does not do all these things, can they still get paid or do they have a right to call in a lawyer for this?
