my sound test opinions: acoustic guitar feels nice... not quite center (the it felt like the song was a bit pulled to the right), but felt comforting and good to listen to classical is not my usual field but i do find a decent amount of overall detail in them that is useful. the less popular song showed how they can definitely do good on high percussion, very delicate and got a lot of resonance from it which i really like. jazz again had a slight centering issue (like they felt a slight bit to the right), but the pianos were well done and easily detailed. the bass was the most prominent part to me tbh. these definitely are really good for me but i just dont have the 1K for something like this.. if there was something as good under 500 i would easily buy.. though the question of how it works for genres like hip hop, electric rock, and dance music

@@bertreviews to be fair the right pull might just be because my ears are weird... one sounds slightly lower than the other and one might be a little quieter... basically i need to clean my ears

Thanks, that’s entirely possible with any of us. I will do a tone test on Mr Ears and check the levels on left and right, and see what the numbers show.

I'm listening to some Keiko Matsui recordings right now on my ZMF Auteur. It's probably different sounding that the Eikon, but jazz sounds outstanding on it, too. I love how sometimes certain sounds physically tickle your ears.

Z1r, eikon or atticus? I have an hd800s with a nice tube amp setup. My favorite artist is lindsey stirling. I mainly listen to electronic, and strings. Thanks

IMO, Lindsay Sterling, because of the violin, with have great tonality on Eikon but will be detailed and intense compared to Z1R. You’ll get a more organic (natural) sound with Eikon and I would say better bass than the HD800s, but less micro-detail & resolution and a smaller soundstage (HD800s soundstage is huge). Atticus and Z1R should give you good details but a more laid back sound, more mid-bass but the music is less “in your face” which some people prefer for long term (many hours) or background listening. That will be a different experience for you if you are used to the detail and immersiveness of the HD800s. The Z1R has a peak at 10K that some people do not like, none of the other three headphones have issues in the treble. Of the four, the Z1R is the most comfortable to wear, followed by the Senn then the ZMF headphones. The biggest immediate difference of switching from the HD800s to any of the other three, will be the reduced soundstage (both in width but especially in height). So it’s always a trade-off, depends what is more important to you. Just my opinion!

I will pick the Z1r because comfort is the most important thing to me. Also I have a pretty good opportunity to pick a pair for 900€ 3 months old only ! Whereas anything zmf is harder to come by and prices don’t seem to drop that much second hand.

But there people who don't like bass and sometimes they really enjoy the pureness of the sound without bass distracting them. And it's called "authentic".

Agreed. I would not say that these headphones are for those types of people, as they emphasize bass. I think the most “authentic” headphones, in terms of pureness, are flat studio monitors or those that do no color the sound at all, and which present the music as it was produced. However that is not the genre these particular headphones are exploring. If I am going to review a Ferrari, then I assume people are interested in “speed,” even though emphasis on speed is not what I personally would say makes for a great car. These are not made for the type of sound you are describing. My favourite headphone for example is the Sony R10 (bass-light) which does not emphasize bass at all.
