@@325133 Reed had his chance in the hotel room to make it right because Luther genuinely would have covered it all up for him but the stupid paranoid fucker couldn't trust in his friendship with John. I don't even know why he involved Zoe at all. Threatening her to get John over meant he would have been forced to kill her too because she goes to the police to tell them at best Reed threatened her with a gun and at worst, Luther is killed straight away after Reed tells her to get John over without him knowing Reed is waiting for him. Reed massively fucked up. Everything was fixable until he pulled the gun out on Zoe.

These people saying Zoe was stupid hahaha. Imagine a friend of the family that you trust comes into your house and threatens you with a gun unless you call your husband over. If she tells John to come, from her perspective she's signing his death warrant. At the very BEST she's putting him in mortal danger. What would you do? You're put on the spot by someone you trusted, your life is threatened unless you put someone elses life in danger. The stakes are SO HIGH. She should have tried to defuse the situation after telling John, but she was terrified. What would you do? Sometimes, reasonable and logical thought doesn't come into it.

If she had just listened to Ian there would have been a (small) chance that nobody would have died because Luther probably would've been able to talk to him and calm him down. she knew that Ian was on edge and close to doing something reckless and she made the worst possible choice

Ian was a piece of shit coward and knew that the only way he could have a chance at killing Luther was making him let his guard down. He'd be vulnerable at his wife's home. Zoe knew that if she didn't want John then they'd both be dead. There was no chance to talk Ian down.

I admired how the writers incorporated a villain in series 3 (Tom Marwood) with similar grievances to Luther. Both men have lost someone dear and close to them in life and sought justice when society had failed or turned against them, but where they differ lies in the decisions they made that would forever change them. Tom gave into his rage and despair and allowed his self-justified motives of vengeance to turn him into a murderer, whereas Luther, despite losing Zoe, refused to cross the moral line that would make him no different than Zoe's killer. Instead of allowing his pain and sorrow to consume him, Luther became a stronger and wiser individual; the very person we should all strive to be when death robs us of our loved ones.

And I won't say the cliché term "worry" but I just pity those people who're busy either making fun of Zoe or criticising her conduct rhetorically. While Luther has never crossed that moral line, he has flirted with it and has nearly crossed many times throughout the series. I think that's why he has such knowledge and understanding of many of the killers he's gone up against. I also think that's why he is so fascinated by the enigma that is Alice. While Luther has done many good things throughout the show, he is not someone who I would strive to be like. He does a terrible balancing his personal demons with his work life, his decisions have gotten many of his friends killed, and he constantly justifies Alice's behavior. Love the show and Idris Elba's performance, but the character of John Luther is not a good person at all.

I disagree that Luther is a bad person I actually struggle to see any evidence of that in the show especially in the first 3 seasons, Luther has Batman’s moral code and Superman’s heart, the show emphasizes how much of an empath he is constantly, how much he values human life and the victims, how much “love” is at the center of everything he does but unfortunately rather you choose to be the good guy or the bad guy both options come with a cost Luther is learning throughout the show that running into a burning building will leave you burnt but he’s willing to do it any ways that’s what makes someone brave, you’d have to do some crazy mental gymnastics to watch Luther and come to the conclusion that he’s the bad guy or “not a good guy” if he’s not an example of a good person then who is?……You?

I just need to get this out there because I just watched this episode for the first time yesterday and it was the most deeply disturbed I’ve felt in a very long time. Steven Mackintosh (Ian) is such an amazing actor but he was so good that I legit felt like I was going to throw up because of how stressed and uncomfortable he made me in this episode. Incredible show and I can’t wait to see what else happens.

It mimicks real life...Some men fall at the feet of women who simply don't care anymore. Luther was HOOKED! Zoe's feelings for him were in the past and yet she still drifted back to Luther for the comfort her provided sexually, emotionally and physically as a detective. Mark knew this...that's why Mark gave Zoe an ultimatum...she needed to choose between Mark and luther and Mark wasn't going to tolerate 'friendship' between Zoe and Luther. Mark knew what he was up against. Allowing a friendship would be condoning Zoe falling in love with Luther all over again.

Archie Villiers Ian was completely paranoid about being found out. And paranoid people don't think logically. Luther tried to calm Ian down at the hotel & even said he would help with him with his troubles. But Ian chose not to trust Luther & instead started shooting at him. Ian also didn't bother to pick up the phone when Luther called him afterwards. Ian sabatoged himself but kept blaming Luther for his crimes

I don't understand how they don't follow up after the hotel shooting scene and chase Ian instead of Luther. It makes no sense after they ID'ed Ian as the shooter of sugarman together with Luther but a second later Luther is responsible for everything. Keep in mind i am still at the start of Season 1 Episode 6 but if they don't do anything about it, this is absolutely the biggest plot hole i have ever seen. Also why did they not listen to this fucking phone call i don't get it?

I think Ian's plan all along was to use Zoey has threating leverage over Luther. When she refused to call Luther, Ian could've just walked out the door & come up with new plan but he didn't. To say that Zoe caused that entire situation is a cop out. Ian was already unhindged earlier that day when he began killing to cover himself. And he had already shown how far he was willing to go when he shot at Luther. I think Ian would've pulled that gun on Zoey even if Luther had showed up at the house.
