To me zoes storyline and coming out made sense because it’s really close to mine discovering of mine sexuality in a way. Except the mom part. The way she thought she was into boys was more a I need love and boys happened to be there. Attention seeking in a way. Maybe it wasn’t planned for her storyline with her but it made sense when you look back at it. Like it’s with me.

What? You're reading something that isn't here. Thea is saying Zoe was desperate for anything that looked like love, so she accepted it when boys would fawn over her beauty and fame. She took any sort of affection she could find. By the time she realized she was gay, Zoe didn't need superficial love. She was ready for the kind of love that forms out of deep, personal bonds, and she found that in women.

It hurts how much I relate to this character... "That's just what you're supposed to do"...that was me. I was chasing a feeling I could never really feel. I was so lost.. drowning so much in this and my other traumas. It hurts to look back at that, it hurts to watch Zoe's storyline and realize she accepted herself in her teen years and it took me years longer. Honestly I'm 28 and still haven't been with a woman. Just wanted to say you explained it very well.

I feel like a side effect of just how out of order I first watched Degrassi, is that I saw NC before season 13-14, so always knew Zoe as a lesbian, and going back to her introduction didn't challenge that much for me. As you said, her relationships with men largely read as ploys for affection and attention, rather than based on genuine attraction. I do like the theory that Zoe started pursuing Miles because she was subconsciously into *Maya*, and wanted to keep her away from anyone else. (If we're doing the "plz make video about [insert pet topic here]" thing, it would be interesting to see an analysis of the characters the Degrassi writers originally planned on making gay/bi/etc., but then changed their minds for whatever reason. They Were Almost Gay?)

Your video made me realize that I didn't really know that I was gay all along. It was the fact that I can look back and see my past behaviors, dreams, fantasies about guys, and crushes on them and say that 'o yeah, you were definitely gay', it created the illusion that because I can see it now, I could see it back then as my sexuality developed. And it caused me to think that I knew that I was gay all along, and that's just because I can see how I should've known doesn't mean I did know.

Honestly I've been through something similar because the last relationship I have been in wasn't a good one and after awhile it wasn't what I really wanted because he tried to have a three relationship with me with girl he was friends with because she kept throwing herself at our relationship and kept coming between us that's when things went downhill. I tried to convince myself that I wanted a three way relationship but deep down I knew it wasn't what I really wanted which was torture. I don't know if I'm into guys or not. I just know that I'm Demisexual and with Demisexuals its different because we don't feel attraction or anything unless we feel an emotional bond and connection first and so when someone tries to have a three way or one night Stand. It ends up seemingly gross. But I am not sure if I'm into guys at all really. I guess I'm like Zoe in a way because I grew up not receiving love, affection or anything from family members and support so it probably has something to do with it because I have dated guys even though I wasn't really attracted to them. I have also been an abuse victim because I was neglected and abused when I was a child.

I’m just recently starting to watching to watch your videos so sorry for commenting on old ones, but I’m curious as to whether or not you think any of the characters that had a “gay” storyline genuinely were NOT gay? Not like Grace where we thought she could be but she admitted she wasn’t. But I questioned my sexuality, explored being gay, but then realized after a while that I’m just not really into girls. And honestly while I ended up not being gay I think at some point society needs to acknowledge how hard it is to be questioning even if you discover you aren’t gay.

No worries! I'm glad my older stuff is getting views because some of it is good imo! I don't think we really had anyone explore possibly being gay and come out determining they're not except for Grace and Caitlyn. Although, with Caitlyn, her questioning didn't get to be depved into because it was the 80's and maybe actually being gay wasn't something you could show a main cast member being at that point in time. Instead, we just saw her grapple with the possibility of societal backlash over her confusing affinity for her favourite female teacher and it being ambiguous if said teacher was straight or gay. Otherwise, I don't recall other characters questioning their sexuality and coming out as not gay in the end. It'd be a good story to explore because there's so much that can be discussed about the process of questioning in general!

I think that's more the case. She felt attached to them in some way, and so mistakened thay attachment for romantic and sexual attraction because "Zoe is supposed to like boys".

They were clearly setting her up to be Zig in s14A, and then Miles in 14B, only to turn around and be like "nope, she's always been gay". She had also never spent time with Grace, yet suddenly she liked Grace in a romantic way. Zoe also never had an issue being with guys in the past, but somehow in the next class, she can't be with a guy.

Zoe was but sort of Degrassi originally Adam was supposed to be a lesbian named Zoe but was androgynous instead of trans so it seems that they tried to separate the two by making Adam trans not androgynous and Zoe a lesbian.
