Industries have been privatised over the last 40 years in this country and we are now feeling the adverse effects of this. Exorbitant prices for trains is a well-established national scandal and lack of regulation by water companies who have not reinvested profits in updating infrastructure is a national scandal. If you commodify healthcare in this country, you are setting it up for an American-style system where profit is prioritised over patient welfare. Luigi Mangione is a clear example of where the rage against an unjust system like that goes. If you give an inch, insurance companies will take a mile in this area. Anyone who has ever dealt with insurance companies will tell you how difficult they can be. They couldn’t give a damn whether you live or die. Furthermore, I would argue vehemently that the NHS as a state-governed model is the cornerstone of British life, uniting people of different classes, faiths, skin colours etc. under the principle that people get free healthcare at the point of service. The problem is that over the last 14 years, incompetence, corruption, greed and a lack of accountability on a government level has caused a ripple effect throughout society in which everything is worse off because of it. It is true no system is perfect but Westminster has been actively trying to dismantle the NHS for years…This country becomes more American in its outlook, attitudes and style each day.

Couldn't agree more with you my friend. Furthermore, the arguments set forth for why the NHS is seemingly failing in this argument are ENTIRELY caused by private capture of NHS trusts; waiting times increasing and lack of beds is not a failure of the single payer system but instead a success of the private healthcare system that works auxiliary to it. It is why no neoliberal government will do anything to ameliorate these issues. It is more profitable for private contractors to lobby government (therefore more profitable for government officials) and capture the health service sector through its smaller parts rather than calling for its abolition overnight; you then blame inefficiency of the public sector in competing with the growing private sector that is entirely financed and subsidised through public funding through government contracts (eg. PPE scandal 2020-) and argue for increased efficiency through the private sector. Literally the oldest trick in the book.

Just a note to editing, I wonder if you would get better engagement if you clipped a highlight, played it at the start, then moved to the usual run?
