If you can help it, try avoiding the city beach (El Postiguet). It's usually the dirtiest of the city, and the most packed. If you're close by, try getting the tram for 10 min and get to Playa de San Juan, where there's a 14km beach with fewer people and usually cleaner. If you've got a car and you might want to explore one of the many many beaches around the city that offer crystalline clear waters. Also, as opposed to Valencia, we're known for many types of rice dishes. The most common ones could be Arroz a banda or Arroz del senyoret, but you can get dozens of types in every place.

Alicante has become my favourite Spanish city. It is big enough to be exciting but small enough to get to know really well so after a few visits you can feel at home. And well done for pointing out that the rice dish you had is just called 'Arroz'. It's not the same as paella. It has ingredients you'd never put in paella. If anyone is trying to sell you 'paella' in Alicante it probably isn't very good.

I hope you enjoyed your trip, but for others reading this in my experience if you are making an effort to speak Spanish (even basic pleasantries will help enormously) then you will fit right in and feel incredibly safe. I have seen people have different experiences of staff & atmosphere at the same restaurant simply because one couple will know; hello, can I have, please, thank you, that was delicious, may I have the bill & good night. Not exactly a lot of Spanish to learn, I apologise for my sarcasm but I get frustrated when people assume English is the universal language.

Alicante is nice and compact. One issue though, is that many of the side streets in the city center are quite dirty and there is a problem of homelessness that the city really needs to adress urgently as well. Recently, I was there and there were quite a lot of homeless men, often drunk, bottles of alcohol being mixed in doorways and alleys, bottles being left at street corners, homeless men wandering the streets drunk, calling out and saying things, urinating on the pavements, yes, really.

Alicante is one the more touristic provinces in Spain, Costa Blanca is well known around Europe and the 70% of tourism in Valencia Region comes to Alicante. Alicante airport due to the tourism is the 5th busiest in Spain after Madrid, Barcelona, Mallorca and Málaga, so I wouldn't say is not considered to visit xD

Thank you! I was there in March for two weeks for a first visit and what I liked most was that the people were very friendly and helpful and had manners. Unfortunately, that was often not the case in Mallorca, where I lived for quite a few years. Stayed in San Juan Playa which was nice, but did not spend much time in the city center, so hope to get to know it a bit better this time :)@@ZoeandSimon

You can get them at TAM offices and some newsagent kiosks. It's probably best to ask around e.g. in your accommodation, as we found they can be tricky to find sometimes.

Hopefully it isn't too rude of me to make some corrections, but here are a couple of pronunciation tips in case it helps anyone: Alicante = ah-lee-KAHN-tay (you were both pronouncing the last syllable more like "-tuh") Hogueras = oh-GARE-us (not exactly that pronunciation, but it's close. Of particular note, you don't pronounce the 'u' in Spanish after a 'g' unless it has an umlaut over it, e.g., vergüenza = bear-GWEN-thuh). Anyway, I enjoyed the video very much. I lived in Alicante for about three years just about two decades ago and I'll be visiting this fall for the first time since I left. Your video brought back some memories and also introduced me to some new things. Thanks for sharing!

@barrysteven59644 ай бұрын
I hope you don't mind me correcting your correction. It is really hard to transcribe Spanish sounds into a spelling that would make sense to English speakers I know. But I am not a fan of writing the Spanish 'e' as 'ay'. 'Ay' is diphthong with e and y together and is very typical of English. In Spanish it is a short single vowel sound more like 'eh'.

Arroz is not paella. You can get paella throughout Spain but it comes the Valencia region. They are two vastly different dishes. The mushrooms were installed 3 or 4 years ago. Their only purpose is to draw tourists like yourselves. It does seem to be working.
@LaChicaconSuerte-111123 күн бұрын
Really nice video, but it would be so nice if you could pronounce Alicante as it´s meant to be pronounced, like ´Alicanteh´because the way you say it, Alicant-uh, makes it sound very German.

I dont understand why every travel vlogger every 90% films themselves and 10% of the time the actual location... ?????
@ZoeandSimon Жыл бұрын
To be honest, it depends on the preferences of the video creator, but we try to film as much of the location as we can. But there's only so much material we can film without it taking way too much time. And when you cut down all of the video material to the best parts, it's natural that the parts where people are speaking are much longer than the location material. So I don't think that what you are mentioning is down to all video creators being overly narcissistic (although that's probably also the case sometimes 😁), but it's mainly down to how much video material is available.

EU FUI FURTADA durante o check-in. Não recebi assistência do hotel, e os Policiais me informaram que, mesmo eu indicando a localização do Bud2 que estava na mochila furtada, não tinham o que fazer. Todos agem como se a cidade fosse segura.
