It's not a Ukelele guitar but its father. The name is cavaquinho or braguinha, a portuguese instrument which traveled with Portuguese emigrants from Madeira to Hawaii on the end of the XIX century. There's a lot of people who doesn't know, even in Portugal, that the Ukelele came from a Portuguese guitar.

She can't sing, she's always out of tune, her vocal technique is inexistent. She can't tell the difference between an A and an A flat 🤣😂😂

You should see her final performance. This is an acustique version
@selmahare6 ай бұрын
I actually prefer this acustique version, you can listen to the actual singing better. It's clean, just her soulful voice, the supporting back vocals and the guitars.
@deolindabaptista11836 ай бұрын
You need to read the lyrics to understand the song. The lyrics of the song are pure poetry. Iolanda struggles with her fears. They are her ghosts and the people who did her harm. She screams (grito) and manages to overcome her ghosts and the pain she feels. The ghosts disappear. She has become powerful and is reborn to life. That's why she continues to sing after the scream. Iolanda and the ghosts are dressed in white because they emit light. Light is the hope of overcoming pain. The color black is the storm of her soul.

6:32 - Pardon, Zoe, that's not a Ukulele, it's called "Cavaquinho" and it's one of the traditional 4 string-type guitars that the portuguese who emigrated to Hawaii to work in the sugar cane fields took with them that gave origin to the Ukulele. 🙂

I think that the end is absolute perfection the way it is. A build-up doesn't always mean it has to get louder. Sometimes it just gets more intense, and I think Iolanda just nailed it. The reverb of the Panteão Nacional also added an extra layer of magic. Just finished watching the final and for me this was the song of the contest.
@joyinmymind6 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree. I love this version more than the one she sang at Eurovision (which was splendid as well), precisely because it seems she's holding her suffering, getting enfuriated inside because hell how is it true that the loudest "screams" are those kept inside our heads when we're feeling hopeless. It's really a matter of intensity and tension and she delivered this in a sublime way.

I think you might enjoy looking up Portuguese fado. Either more traditional (Amália Rodrigues) or more recent (like Deolinda with stuff like "que parva que eu sou" - that got a standing ovation the first time it was played in public and went on to become THE músic representing the generation caught in the 2008/2009 economic crisis)

Subscribed, as this is, no shadow of a doubt, as the best Analysis on youtube about this song. By the way, it´s not a ukelele(who is bigger than a cavaquinho and has nylon strings), but a cavaquinho (who is smaller and has metal strings). Ukelele exists, because it was introduced by portuguese from Madeira islands to Hawai.

Maybe if you follow this link you will understand better the dance and the way the song ends: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ6VdZt6na9nY5osi=guhmaqw4hrYpTHV0 Even if the name of the song is "Grito" (shout), the lyrics never mention that word. The highest part of the song is her shout (grito) when she frees herself from whatever is trying to slow her down because her fire still burns ("ainda arde"). It is a very emotional, griping song and Iolanda performs and sings it to perfection!

If you translate the lyrics from Portuguese you would understand it even better. Music and lyrics make the song. You can hear fado without translating it into english but i guess you only really feel it if you understand the lyrics meaning. This is the case of " O grito". Showing respect for the portuguese language would take your comments to another level. The final version is a poetic masterpiece.
