Glad to hear you like it!! This is one of my favorites for sure!! But I can see your initial comments, because the melody is not so memorable. But I still get the emotions from her voice, the instrumental, dancing... and the scream.. Love it!

GRITO means SCREAM The dancers represent her feelings, her fears, her demons. Iolanda - "Grito" (Scream) [Verse 1] I heard, (I) felt, the body charging We continued like that, one and another, one and another, one and another I'm free falling, I'll let you know when I get there I surrender here, little by little [Pre-Chorus] Long strides, chained in the (race) start I want to let go of what left me hurt I ask the mother star to make the day rise again [Chorus] (It still [Ainda] burns [Arde]) I transformed every verse of me (It still burns) And surrender to the courage that still burns, still burns Hit the light on your chest and opens it I am a flame that still burns, still burns, still burns [Verse 2] Today I want to prove myself That I can be whatever I want (Whatever I want) Bring together those who love me at a table Forgive anyone who wanted to see me suffer They don't fool me (No, no) I'm every size (I am) I still remember when I was little (I was) the one who dreamed first [Pre-Chorus] Long strides, chained in the (race) start I want to let go of what left me hurt And I ask the mother star to make the day rise again [Chorus] (It still burns) I transformed every verse of me (It still burns) And surrender to the courage that still burns, still burns Hit the light on your chest and open it I am a flame that still burns, still burns, still burns I am a flame that still burns, still burns I am a flame that still burns, still burns Burn, burn, burn I transformed every verse of me And surrender to the courage that still burns, still burns Hit the light on your chest and open it I am a flame that still burns, still burns, still burns

Yes i agree. She's like buried her past... i understand that she buried the past and the people who made her suffer. It was really interesting to see this song grow on you even whilst you were making the video. To me the musical structure makes sense when you read the (translation of the) lyrics. She sings about wanting to prove herself, be whatever she wants to be, and let go of what hurts her... the long held note is like a scream or cry (the "grito" of the title) of release, and after that she finds a new sort of peace, hence the quieter ending. (Or at least that's my interpretation.)
@TheMuserResolute

Yes! When listening to this again and again, the more subdued reiteration of the chorus made more sense when relating it back to the translation of the song’s title.

Thank you for your comment. The song is about mental struggles and fighting to overcome them on you own - Self empowerment. Explaining the choreography, the dancers are/represent the struggles and her demons and at the end she makes them disappear with her scream overcoming the struggle . Grito = scream . The white is to represent the flames, the pure white light the that emanates from the soft candle flames and the purity of the rebirth Love from Portugal

You need to read the lyrics to understand the song. The lyrics of the song are pure poetry. Iolanda struggles with her fears. They are her ghosts and the people who did her harm. She screams (scream) and manages to overcome her ghosts and the pain she feels. The ghosts disappear. She has become powerful and is reborn to life. That's why she continues to sing after the scream. Iolanda and the ghosts are dressed in white because they emit light. Light is the hope of overcoming pain. The color black is the storm of her soul.

While casual listeners will have the same opinion that you, But it does have a specific reason why she does go on full caos, climax. Because while the scream represents freedom, but in the end she does hold herself back. Its freedom but not just full naked "fk this"... its more "freedom but still have conscience what is left behind that hold her". Even on the vocals, theres tension. Will eurovision fans understand this? probably not, because they are use to that full chaotic climax that represents the big middle finger to everything.

I'm so f****ing love this - and I love it's not a song like every song. Musically there is so much creativity in the song (not a single chorus or verse is the same) - and the ending is perfect for me: the big shout and all her demons fall to the floor and the song ended by Iolanda in peace with herself. I get emotional every time I hear and see it. Fingers cross Portugal can reach the final. She made a video with the producer Luar, which can be interesting for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXzWhIOQqc-FhaMsi=ETuCQbn8VG1tGFWB

I'm Portuguese. A country that lives through music and poetry. Our roots are embedded in music. We had a revolution - on 24th April 1974 -, which brought us out from a dictatorship, and the signal for the beginning of said revolution was two songs playing on the radio, one of which had actually been a Eurovision participant. It initiated the military against the regime. And yet it was all so poetic... a florist in the midst of Lisbon distributed carnations amongst the people, and many of these flowers were placed in the military's gun barrels. It was a peaceful yet effective revolution: poetic. And we ended the dictorship. So we thrive on the pouring of our souls into the world, not worried about being accepted... but instead, pledging to be heard. Our eurovision songs are pure and pure poetry. Impactful, memorable and rarely not of an irreparable elegance. Very proud of Ioland. Such a beautiful song! Such a heartfelt performance! Such a mindblowing voice. And even if biased, I believe it was the most beautiful song this year and that it may end up on the soundtrack of some epic movie.

The musicality drops after her scream because is the main message , the purpose of the song, after the scream she releases her inner flame that was still burning against self doubt and self demons reaching a inner calm state that only focuses on her, her fierce but still place where there’s no distractions, just her Self transformation (just her voice) .

Conan Osíris music was "Telemóveis", that is cell phones, not telemovies :P I really loved this song the first time I heard it, it gave me goosebumps, but I have the same problem: the crescendo to the scream is amazing and would make a great ending, so I have mixed feelings about the part after it. From one side is a worst end, but from another side it shows that things can get better if you let things go.

I understand your idea for the last bit of the song. It would sound really cool too. But the song HAS to be exactly 3 minutes long, and i'm not sure how they could bring the song to a climax and nicely close it with just a few seconds left. So, with that being said, i really like your suggestion, but i also think the song sounds amazing the way it is ❤️ thank you for your reaction!

Thst is not insecurity in her voice, that is a deliberate fmotional affectation in the performance that is very common among portuguese singers whdn performing an emotional song. Many portuguese singers put performance over technicality when singing. As a more emotional.people - we are iberians and southern europeans - we love when our music offers an emotional impact, exact technicism not being the most important, in fact the "imperfections" make the song sound more real, like the singer means what it is singing. We love that kind of artistic honesty. You see a lot of that in Fado, of which this song takes a lot of inspiration from but with a modern twist.

Your comments about the Eurovision Song Contest are, among a myriad of "reactors", first-class comments. You know what you're talking about. But Portuguese compositions always surprise you. Sometimes not in the front row. Portugal has belonged to the ESC for a long time and our local officials have released it, for a few years now the path the festival has taken has been absolutely wrong. So, we just make our way, within our ESC vision, trying to highlight the correct path. Swimming against the tide. Paying the bill. It doesn't matter. Our prize is to provide some comfort to people who truly appreciate quality like you do.

Honestly even without the meaning of the song, hanging on another thing after the shout completely distracts from it. The shout isnt part of the build up, its the climax, which is why it will be way more memorable if it cuts off right there and leaves you there a couple of seconds pondering what you just heard before she goes into an outro. Lazily slapping another chorus after it to me feels like the most generic and boring thing you could do there.

Hi Mike, i confess i'm not a regular follower os reaction videos. But your reactions of portugueses singers are really good, because your techincal knowledge of music touch me. I remember your reaction to the singer Maro (with "Saudade") and now i saw for the first time this reaction to Iolanda. It's a stange music and I really don't know the way i connect myself with this stange song. I'll leave you with a suggestion to react to a song by a young Portuguese girl (she wrote it, compose it and on stage she sing and play piano). It was on Junior Eurovision 2024 and I would love to see your reaction and professional opinion. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6CocomLrcdmnrs Thank you so much! :)

Even though I'm not a festival fanatic, it was good and gave a signal that many didn't understand, but those who voted understood - No to wars! Free and Independent Palestine! People are intelligent, but we also know that there are hypocrites

We are diferent, no fear of experiment and epic and originally songs, we love honest and real lirics. And not having a screming all over the place space shuttle and shaking the tush , just to earn votes it's not our thing. So if you don't like no problem... Go head and vote for bumbumbum and electric drum fake chorus, in English and not in national languages, and leaves us enjoying great music. If you can't don't even try it.

What you think is a weakness, to hold your "shout".... it's not.... you don't need to shout it "over note"... it's a conscious hold on shout!!!

A song should be more expressive than impressive. She´s not there to show off her huge vocals. She´s there to tell a story. The scream means that´s she´s getting rid of her demons to re-start her life in a more serene way. Music shouldn´t be fireworks or vocal displays for nothing. It has to have a meaning, a story. By the way, there is no fado style in this music. It is just a soulful singer. Not every melancholic music we create is Fado. That´s very...reductive.
