Best explanation I've seen thanks, I have an issue if you have time, when I input into the sticks there is a massive delay for the plane to react, I'm talking ten seconds sometimes, I'm using a frsky r9sx receiver sbus

Thank you so much for detailed Installation guide! 👍 I bought a Kopilot Llite together with a Zohd Drift. Unfortunately, I‘m having big problems getting a connection to the Kopilot. I‘m using a Crossfire Nano + Taranis QX7S + Crossfire module. The Connection between Crossfire Nano and Crossfire Module seems to be fine (solid green light). I‘ve created a simple 4 Channel model in my Taranis and added a 3 way switch as channel 5. For the transmitter output, I‘ve selected external and Crossfire. With this setup, no input reaches the Kopilot. The Kopilot is permanently in balanced mode (flashing green light). I can select different plane types using the set button of the settings board in this mode, but this does not solve the issue. Surprisingly, this setup worked before I played around with small settings board. It seems that - by accident - I‘ve messed something up within the Kopilot. Is there factory reset for the Kopilot available. Can you provide some hints for troubleshooting this issue? 🧐

It's been a long time since I used the Kopilot, so I may be missing something... lol The only thing I can think of right off hand would be to make sure the Crossfire receiver is configured to output SBUS on whatever signal pin you connected to the input on the Kopilot. (They're set up for CRSF by default) Apart from that, everything else should be the basics covered in the manual.

I think it's the same screen that's in the X10. I like it too. I'm really looking forward to some coming updates, OpenTX should have native support for it in 2.3.2 release according to some of the devs, and a merged pull request. ;) The JumperTX fork isn't bad, but there's always that question in the back of your mind, will they keep updating it so we get all the new fixes and features... lol This is shaping up to be a heck of a radio! Jumper just released an internal multi-protocol module for it too. I have one on order, even though I rarely use the 2.4 modules. I did use the external multi one to fly a little indoor heli recently just for fun, it's pretty neat! Way more fun that flying it with the toy transmitter it came with.

@@EnglishTurbines Nope, they changed the wheel a bit and put a metal pin in it so they don't break. www.aliexpress.com/item/4000049415602.html All the new radios ship with that one already in, I'm not sure what point they changed. I know they shipped out a bunch to retailers so people with a broken wheel can get a free replacement part with the metal pin if they ask.

That's not a bad idea. I forgot all about the ezosd! lol I had one for a while some years ago that liked it for what it was. Pairing up an OSD like that with the features of the Kopilot would work well together. I have a Skylark Tiny OSD in an old Popwing that hasn't flown in forever... It wouldn't be hard to stick it in this one... Now you got me thinking... lol

Thanks for the informative video, as usual very well presented easy to understand. I hope you can help me with a problem I am having with my new Kopilot Lite autopilot system. I have it installed in a flying wing and set up via sbus from my RX. I am unable to set up the Neutral Calibration by the sticks on my mode 2 Taranis TX. Nothing happens with the LED lights. No flashing. I was in stabilised mode as per the manual. The radio calibration was successful though. All other functions and set up is correct and working. Many thanks Mike

@@martincloutier1399 Hi Martin The problem was me. I had programmed the stick throws (travel) or Rates(weight) on my Taranis to be about 70%. So when I pushed the sticks to an end point the travel was not 100%, just 75& which was not far enough for the KoPilot to recognise. Once 100% travel was installed back it worked. So now on my 3 position rates switch the top one is as 100% travel and the other 2 switch positions have rates and expo programmed. Also for some reason my elevator trim switch is now reversed with this set up. A bit scary on the maiden as when I put up trim in it dived further. I just have to remember that if I have to re-trim. I see others have had the trim problem with, Strange. Anyway, hope that helps. Let me know how you get on. Bonafiedpirate has a good KZbin video on set up.

thanks. Very clear and helpful video. I have a question, when I try to calibrate the gyro, the lights do not blink. Seem like I am not in the calibration mode. Any idea?

Hey man Im a huge fan of the channel, just wanted to let you know lol your videos have made me fall in love with fixed wing FPV, especially semi-autonomous flight... I run a small UAV business doing small scale mapping and videography work mostly but next spring I am looking to invest in some fixed wing mapping equipment in order to cover larger areas for mining and exploration companies in my area (Yukon, Canada). As a pet project I was going to try to turn one of these into a backpack sized micro-mapping platform over the winter using ardupilot on an omnibus f4 board or a matek f405. The idea is to try to fit a gopro into the nano talon and use Pix4d to generate preliminary maps from the images captured by the gopro.. On the website for this airframe it seems to allude to a small "camera bay" on the bottom of the aircraft. In your opinion do you think there is indeed enough room in there to fit a hero 7 or equivalent in a downward facing position?... Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks man!

There's actually an optional mount available for the Hero7 that fits into the bottom bay specifically for that reason. I haven't done any mapping before and wouldn't know where to start, so I can't say how well it works. Look at about 8 minutes into this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4fHqqJpnpZ7rKM

Hi! Great video. Questions: 1. My wing flies well in normal mode. It flies also well in stab mode but I have almost no control in this mode. The travel of Ail and Ele is much less in this mode, almost nothing. Why? Using a frsky taranis q7. 2. For the throttle to work on my controller I have to inverse it (weight -100 on Taranis). Why? 3. I cannot calibrate the plane (sticks inside and down). The green leds won't flash after 5 seconds. Thanks.

Hi, I am having trouble with my kopilot. When I put the esc into the throttle port all the light's go on and flash. The esc is 5volts. When I disconnect the esc and plug in another power with 5.5volts everything works fine. It seems that it needs that it needs at least 5.5volts to work. Any suggestions. Wally

Hey, Just received my ZOHD drift today and I've found a problem. When I connect the included GPS to the Ko-Pilot Flight Controller the LED on the FC doesn't seem to light up like its supposed to. I know the GPS is getting power since the LED on the actual GPS is solid red but it isn't sending any info the the FC. Do you know what I could do to fix the problem? Thanks

During my set up, for some reason my elevator channel is behaving like a rudder and my rudder channel is behaving like an elevator😢. Any advise as to what i could have done wrongly. I've confirmed that it's in the v tail setting not sure what to do.

Hey bonafide, I have been struggling setting this stabilizer up and I have watched this video a couple of times but I cant seem to get it working properly. And then I heard you say it need to be setup with AETR ? I have it set up as TAER on my Taranis QX7. It works on manual mode but with stabilize mode I have no inputs at all.

Mine came with all the servos and linkages pre-installed, so I just left them at that. I set up rates on a 3-pos switch, 100%, 75%, and 50%. I usually do that with a new plane the fine tune them to my liking later. If I remember right, this one has a fast roll rate, but nothing crazy.

Hi i have a zohd dart and i dont know i can turn on the stabilitynmode mod with my taranis s 9 lite, is it bound with my reciver rx6r via s bus. i cant move any gyros or give gas. Can you help me ?? Thx

Keith when I connected the throttle cable directly to the ESC and bypassed the Kopilot, it works fine. The other servos and modes are working off of the SBUS connection. Does this mean I likely screwed up in my Tx setup?

The setup in the transmitter is probably fine if it controls the ESC directly with the receiver. Double check that you're in manual mode, the throttle won't work in the other flight modes before GPS is locked, and still won't run up in RTH with a lock until the plane starts moving. After GPS is locked the throttle should work in stabilized mode and manual.

Yeah I did, so far I've flown the Esky Eagle and this Nano Talon BO with it using the R9M. I like it so far. The firmware is a little messy, but OpenTX has merged a pull request and will support the T16 natively (no need for the JumperTX fork) starting in the next release. It should be in 2.3.2, and probably 2 or 3 months out based on what I've seen from the devs that post on RCGroups. I'll probably wait to transfer more of my planes over after that.

Hey Keith, I am finally getting a Nano Talon and have been rounding up all the gear from BG. I was watching this setup video again and just noticed the titan batteries. They are slick and I’m wondering if you could tell me where you got them, maybe stick in an affiliate link if you have one and I’ll get a few. Titan said recently that they were going to stop making these packs. I think they relisted them on the site as something for commercial UAVs though, and jacked up the price... lol www.gettitanpower.com/pages/commercial-uav# They were about $35 for the 4S1P before. That said, I'm not sure where else to get ready-to-use packs like this. These look identical too without the Titan branding ebay.to/34XJg2Q

No, as far as I know it needs AETR on 1234. I'm not farmiliar with Spektrum radios, but can you remap the channels where you want them? You could probably change the wiring in the PWM input connector to put each signal where it needs to be. Just mark them before pulling them out of the housing, then put them back in so each input matches your receiver's output pins. sbus would be a different story though, that would need to be mapped right I would think.

can't seem to do leveling calibration wen put switch in last position stabilize move throttle bottom right left stick botom left hold there all day get no slashing to say calibrating

Yeah, I have the same problem. Spent hours going over this and other videos, trying and retrying, made sure inputs and and mixes are at 100%. Even flown it. It gets the GPS lock, it flies in stabilized and manual mode but I cannot do the level calibration. No flashing lights when moving the sticks center and down. Any help greatly appreciated.

I installed it in a wing and in stabilized mode it will only bank a small amount. Does anyone know how to increase the bank angle?

Yes you can 1 flip you mode switch in return to home position 2 bind your radio with the switch in rth position that it if your radio signal is lost it will return to home (in fail safe mode)

Well i have to say something: Many are blown away by the DJI HD FPV system ... and they plan to use it on some long-range rigs ... However, using DJI HD FPV system - doesnt allow OSD feed yet. On the other hand this FC Kopilot system has been disregarded by many, exactly because it does not have OSD feed ... I find this fact, very interesting, if not a bit hypocritical ...

To be fair, there are ALOT of FC that do exactly what the kopilot does and also provide osd. Whereas there aren't really any good HD fpv systems out there. I think the demand for HD fpv is much greater than the already over saturated flight controller market

Dear Sir. I bought the Zohd dart 250. I got everything setup but I'm not sure. When I put it in return to home mode. While on the ground aand throttle up the motor doesn't spin up is that normal?

Yes, throttle needs GPS-lock. The throttle kicks in when you throw the dart, this is the autolaunch-feature. You could test it in manual mode.

Maybe I missed this but does rth also work on failsafe? If not I do not get the benefit of having gps. Also seems you lose out on no rssi feedback through osd

You need to set up your receiver so it switches channel 5 to RTH position on failsafe. It depends on what radio/receiver you're using as far as how to set that up. For the R9 module and R9MM that I'm using, I set it in the transmitter to "Custom" and set the outputs so the sticks are centered and mode switch goes to RTH. Some receivers you'll set everything how you want it to react at F/S then save those positions with a button on the receiver. The Dragonlink can be set in flight at any time, just set things up how you want them and press/hold the button on the transmitter module. Those are just some examples though. ;) I get RSSI via telemetry on my transmitter. Even without it though, you'll likely start to "feel" it in the controls when they get jittery and sluggish before a total lockout and failsafe. When it does drop completely (assuming you have your f/s set up right) it will turn back towards home, you'll regain control when it's closer and the signal is good again.

Did you have to flash the frimeware to a specific version on the D8r-II to get it bind the the T16 ? Have a RX8R Pro I cant get to bind using Frysky D16 or D8 protocol. I assume it has something to do with ACCT ?

No, it just worked. That old receiver has the original firmware it was shipped with some years ago, I've never updated it. The 4 in 1 module in my T16 was updated when I got the radio a few weeks ago. I think there might be a newer one out now but I haven't bothered checking. I ordered the internal module and will install it when it arrives, and the external one will be re-purposed for my Taranis later... lol

FYI, You might need to do some tuning before it will bind. Even once it is bound you should do the fine tuning as well, it's explained here - github.com/pascallanger/DIY-Multiprotocol-TX-Module/blob/master/docs/Frequency_Tuning.md I haven't tuned anything since I've only used the 4 in 1 module on the workbench, I've been using the R9 to fly. I haven't moved many models over, I'm waiting for OpenTX 2.3.2 with T16 support. ;)

If you have the receiver's failsafe set up properly it will. It needs to trigger RTH with CH5 in failsafe.

@@bonafidepirate One question I can't find an answer for. The RTH attitude is 70m, if I fly to say 150m high in manual mode and switch to RTH will it decend to 70m on its own or just circle at 150m?

Having RTH on a switch is great, but I think the most overlooked feature of RTH is at a signal loss, of either flying beyond the range of the Rx, or some other issue. How do you set up the RTH to automatically kick in upon loss of control signal?

Set up your radio so it moves each channel to a preset position in a failsafe, and make sure the mode switch is set to trigger RTH in a failsafe. I usually center the other controls and make sure the throttle is at cruise position or a touch higher.

What am I missing? Everything connected and works fine on the FrSky X8R, including the ESC. Connected the KoPilot and my ECS will not activate even though GPS light is Solid and Locked. Any ideas or advice. Three and a half hours I spent trying to get this running, I'm sure I've missed something.

Make sure you're on it RTH mode, the throttle won't work on the ground if you are.

@@bonafidepirate nope, that's not it. I think I've set someting squirrelly in my FrSky. I've got a similiar issue with iNav. Both are using SBUS and the control surfaces work as expected. Both plane's ESC are calibrated and work on PWN but not on SBUS. I really appreciate your reply. Thanks Keith

@@ШамильВагапов-е8я HI My problem was that I had set my duel rates to 60% and this wasn't enough final travel to activate it. I put the mode into stabilised set the rates back to 100% and then put both sticks to centre bottom as the manual says. Waited about 5 seconds and then the lights started flashing. released the sticks and waited for the lights to go solid again. Job done. Hope that helps. Let me know how you get on. It's input voltage is 7-28V according to the specs. I ran it off the flight battery here, a 4S Li-Ion pack. The ESC included in the plane has a plug already soldered on to plug it into, no soldering or anything like that required. The VC400 comes with a standard JST plug for power if you want to run it in something different.

Quick question, I was running the f405 board on the binary and I would get Wing oscillation when I would put it in stabilize mode, and do I have to run each ESC to a separate output or can I use the y lead to go to 1 ESC output

If it's oscillating, the gains are likely too high. An autotune should have it flying pretty good. You'll want it flying well in manual mode first of course. The ESCs, if you mean the power leads, you can use a Y harness if it's easier, the positive and negative pads are tied together on the board anyway. For the signal leads, you can run them on a Y lead if you want and set it up as one single throttle output, or run them separate as two motors in iNav if you wanted to do any kind of mixing, like throttle differential to help with yaw or something. I ran them together on a Y lead with the Vector since it only has one throttle output anyway. Pull the red wire conenctor out of both ESC leads though so you're not using the internal BECs. The matek board has a better on onboard already for powering the servos.

The PIFF, very similar to PID controller for multirotors. In planes the FF is "feed forward". They work very similar though. Look up some videos from Pawel here on his channel for fixed wing tuning, he's one of the devs and will explain it all way better than I can. I can see it behaving in one plane and needing a tune in another. Each plane will need to be tuned up to get the most from it, but some are probably going to fly better on the default tune than others.

I have a dual aileron cable plugged into the aileron socket in the kopilot ..But the ailerons move in the same direction and not independently. I am using a Taranis 9XD with OpenTx.. i would appreciate anyone saying what I am doing incorrectly

If you're using a Y cable plugged into one channel to run both servos, there's nothing you can do in the radio setup that won't affect both servos. Reverse one, they both reverse, etc. To fix it, you either need to do it mechanically with the linkages, or use a servo reverser between the Y cable and one of the servos. Another option, though not as easy, would be to open the servo up and reverse it by swapping the two outer wires on the feedback pot. The first two options are easier though. lol

I am DONE with frsky, i have my radio setup for plane no mixing. I’m using qx7 access bound r-xsr 1 blue light 1 green light. Using zohd kopilot, nothing works!!!! No servos, no motor nothing and i know the sbus reciever is bound Ive got telemetry. IM DONE!!!!!!!

Okay, I plugged everything in as per your instruction, and everything works except the throttle. Can you give me an idea of what I have done wrong? My head hurts lol

Without the Kopilot the receiver would go to in ch 3 but that 4 pin connector goes from 1 - 3 What am I missing? I'm using the FS-I6X TX and a FS-iA6B RX The RX is an AFHDS-2A type. The set the TX to AFHDS-2A Is there anything else in the TX that has to be changed?

Throttle will only work in manual flight mode until the GPS lock is good. Make sure you have a good lock, or switch to manual mode and try.

Not sure where you saw that price, but no I paid $33 for one. lol I did just find this on Titan's site though, when looking for a current price, "Titan is ending its hobby flight business as of November 5th, 2019" So I guess he's not making them anymore. Kinda sucks, there's not a lot of people making Li-Ion packs for our planes. GetFPV has this one, but IMO it's way overpriced... www.getfpv.com/li-ion-solutions-4s-3000mah-li-ion-battery.html RMRC has the Strix batteries, but they only have a 2S and 3S. I'm not sure if anyone else in the US (or anywhere for that matter) is making packs ready to use.

@@bonafidepirate Titan web page Amazon has them for around $40 but I was a bit skeptical sisera legit I'm assuming I'm going to need a 4S ESC and these batteries can become volatile if you press the throttle too long too hard
