Battery life seems exceptional on the iPhone 8 Plus for me. I keep getting around 9 to 9.50 hrs usage time and 45 hrs standby time. I went with the 8 plus over the x due to the notch, better battery life, lack of Home id and Touch ID, and Face ID I could care less about

Zachary Wright I went from the 8 plus to the X and the battery is around the same for me, give or take 30mins to an hour. Face ID is more convenient for me especially when I use it to pay at coffee shops because it’s already ready for me whereas on the 8 plus I have to go to the lock screen or swipe down from the top to access it.

Surely the plus screen has more area which helps with KZbin etc. A ruler and a simple sum would show the area. I’ll stick with the plus but I watch lots of KZbin and Amazon videos. I also get very irritated by the silly cut out at the top. If you zoom so it doesn’t show you get a smaller screen...

I’ve used an Otter case with belt clip with all my iPhones. Because I tend to drop my phone a lot. The 8 plus would have been too bulky with that setup. So I went with the X. It worked out really well. The screen size is just about the same size as the 8 plus and I don’t have to carry the extra bulk. Plus the screen clarity and color on the X is fantastic. Loving the X.

I like this video and your thoughts and comments about the new iPhones. You comment on it objectively. I very like it and even after i've bought the iPhone 8 i was still confused whether i should have bought the iPhone X, but after i watched this video i was glad to buy the iPhone 8. I got the X despite the difference in price. It is the first iPhone I’ve had that I can truly use one handed, and while the Touch ID is a little faster than Face ID , I have always had trouble with Touch ID when the weather was cold or I had recently washed my hands. Face ID works consistently, even in a dark room. I may be one of the few that finds the removal of the home button to be a good thing, and I have personally found the new navigation far faster and more intuitive. In fact both the X and the 8 plus are top of the line smartphones and I would have been equally happy with either one. This is the first time I’ve gone for the “cutting-edge “ phone and have no regrets. The review was spot on though, regarding the pros and cons of both

Brian Clifford been using Samsung displays for 4 years and never had this issue. Don’t believe the hype. Only time you will see this is on display models. Pixel display was designed by LG.

Brian Clifford not sure if it will ever happen. That was a concern of mine when I switched to Samsung years ago and I never had the issue. I switched back to Apple with the iPhone X and it’s the last thing on my mind now. If it is a big concern, you might want to sit this one out for a year and see if this becomes a problem.

Good information, keep it up. I went with 8plus and while it still bugs me that I should’ve opted for the newer tech, I figured that the price point was just not worth it yet. What would’ve swayed me towards the x was perhaps Apple including fast charging in the box. So with the extra bucks I saved I’d put it towards that cable and brick. Hopefully Apple treats us a better with those goodies as all other flagships have included either fast charging out of the box or decent headphones.

I’m really torn which one to buy. I’m not 100% convinced of getting rid of the home button. The only reason I lean towards the x is because looking at this Septembers leaks the home buttons are gone on the new models. And choosing the 8 plus is just delaying the inevitable that we all will have phones without home buttons eventually

You've gained a sub. Tho, I prefer my 8 Plus. Better battery life, touch ID, screen real estate but the best of all is price per gb. I prefer having 256 GB on my 8 Plus rather than 64 on the X. I want storage. Especially when it comes to 4K60 recording. My 2 cents. Happy new year ! :-)

For the oled hurting your eyes - did you notice that right away or over time? Like would you be able to tell from trying a demo in the store initially?

The OLED is also pentile meaning you only have red-green or blue-green sub pixel in every pixel so you effectively get 2/3 of sub pixels of an equivalent LCD display. The LCD has a full RGB pixel layout so in some ways it’s sharper. Additionally with OLED white means all sub pixels are active so more power draw vs darker backgrounds. Lastly depending on usage OLED can burn in, in areas where static white/blue dominant images are like status icons or better explained as fade out due to very low life of the blue sub pixel leading to color shift in those areas. Burn in is inherent to OLED displays and Apple does warn about it.

I've come to the point where, (like you) many of the current features are neat, and potentially have a future, but I never use them after trying them a few times. Currently I have a 7 Plus because when I had my choice to upgrade, the 8/8 plus didn't offer me anything over the 7 I needed, wanted. At the time I was seeing those reports of the 8 battery issues, so i decided to hold off on that and see how it panned out long term. I feel that it is accurate for me to say at this time, Apple still puts out some nice hardware, but they haven't really given me anything I NEED, that's not already in an existing device. Going forward, I'll see what they're offering by the end of the year. Verizon already has told me that as long as I keep the phone I have in good condition, i can trade it in after a year if i want something newer. Otherwise, i'll upgrade again after 2 years, or more. Just depends on what my needs are then, and what devices are being offered.

Outside of price it's hard to think of a con in this comparison for the x... for me at least. The notch is about the only thing I could do without that software can't patch. I just think of the notch as my HUD in portrait and actually like that it can force apps to include time/battery, but full screen landscape it's a bummer.

I got both but find myself always on my 8plus because of the overall size. If you have smaller hands the X is perfect. But as he stated if you coming from a plus it’s difficult to go to the X, although the screen is so much better on the X.

I picked up the iPhone X because I want the new and different and I came from an iPhone 7plus and I agree with all you said about the smallness. But, it’s really nice to be able to text with one hand again. I took my iPhone 7plus to apple store twice to have them look at the battery problems i had and my battery is perfect and they re put on iOS 11 and then had me reset everything and it’s still having problems. Since I did that I don’t use it anymore but I can charge it to 100% and then it will just sit there and die after two days of just sitting there. Nothing on it and in the new iPhone screen. Really bad on the battery. I need to bring it back to apple but it’s not under the year warranty anymore. Which is a bummer.

Maybe it’s just me but after about 3 months with my 7plus i hated touch id it wouldn’t work for me half the time maybe oil on my hands or something but the face id works allot better to me maybe not as fast but it worked every time for me so far even in the dark

For me Face ID is more useful because I have hyperhidrosis and my hands are sweaty all the time, sometimes the Touch ID didn’t recognize my finger and it was really hard when I try to type my password with my hands sweating 😓

The iPhone X is a bit of a hype beast right now with all of its gesture type movements on the phone but its actually refreshing to have them instead of the copy and paste home button, touchID features that we've been used to for soooooo many years!! I haven't had any problems with faceID and it works just fine on Apple Pay. Its really nice to just look at my phone when its on my charge stand on my desk to see my notifications before with touchID I had to awkwardly place my thumb on the sensor. The animojis are a lot of fun also talking trash to a friend as a poop emoji just adds a bit more comedy to your points!!!
