2LT Sheridan I believe what they do is the headcrab gets into the brain, and take control while the person is still alive. But not the entire brain, just movement functions. The person is completely aware of what’s happening but they’re essentially paralyzed and can’t fight back. But they still have the ability to talk, hence the begs for help. So yes, they’re still alive, and should be put down.

I was so absolutely shocked when I first saw those zombies at the subway station in half life alyx. I expected to be tense and afraid of this first encounter, but I was disturbed and sad instead, seeing those poor men crying against a wall, some even seem to retain some physical control over their body, but only to faintly bang a wall with their hand in pain. Seeing all this in VR, in real world scale and realistic graphics is really when I knew VR is the future when it comes to gaming experience. That level of inmersion is truly unbelievable

There's a reason L4D calls them "Infected". In the Sacrifice comic it's shown, at least when the infection starts, you are still fully aware and conscious but you see everyone else as monsters. Afaik, I don't actually know if it's ever stated they are actually undead. You see one instance where Zoey's father is bit and seems to die then come back. But I think that's the only time.

L4D zombies aren't your traditional undead zed types but are actually live hosts who are very sick 24/7 adrenaline pumping through their veins non stop. It's why they die from mortal wounds although they can take alot of damage before dying they don't need to get their heads destroyed in order to die.

Black Mesa makes it more clear that the headcrabs are displaced, panicking animals during the BM incident, while the ones in HL2 are likely a form of biological and psychological weapon designed by the Combine as a fate **worse** than being a Stalker. Yeah, a fate worse than having your internals, arms and legs removed and replaced with machinery (or nothing at all in the case of the arms).

@@RockmariomkiZX Which further leads me to believe that the combine actually have a Gonarch captive, hence why they have access to headcrabs and the fast/poison headcrabs are actually genetically modified versions of the regular headcrabs to be more dangerous and effective at breaking morale as well as dispatching rebels as zombies are much easier to deal with than someone with a gun. The regular headcrabs themselves seem to also be different than the ones during the original BM incident.

Keep in mind that the zombies in half life 2 are supposed to have their sounds normal instead of reversed, but they didn't want it to be too demented, so they reversed them and kept it to (mostly) gibberish. This is advertised as a horror experience in these spots so that is definitely not an issue for them however.

The way they expanded on the sounds they make is incredible. It feels so much more real because there are so many different recordings used throughout the game. For so many years we've only been hearing the same few sounds and gotten used to it, so hearing all these newer, different and scarier sounds is crazy to me. They knocked it out of the park in general with the sound design.

so much more pained and frantic than Half-Life 2, even if you reversed the moans. they also recorded the crying, moans, etc in a higher quality without slowing them down it seems. the new visual appearance not only looks like the wound caught some sort of infection, but the graphics look far more realistic, making the wounds look much more painful. reminder that these victims are still alive, so they must be suffocating under the crab as well.

Keep in mind that these guys aren't just feeling physical pain, but psychological pain as well, and when normal people are going through some depression, anxiety and PTSD or any other psychological/physical issue, they have the possibility to go talk with someone, like a doctor. But these guys, they're completely alone, they have no one to help them except the player who the best and ONLY thing he can do is kill the zombies by shooting them. I also wonder if the zombies think that there is still any chance they can be saved from the horrible situation they're in, as it's very likely that they think about seeing their friends and relatives again, or if they know that there's no salvation and never again they will see their friends and relatives.

This reminds me so much of the Infected from The Last of Us. In certain areas of the game, you can hear Infected moaning or groaning in pain. In the first section after the Intro, you can hear an Infected woman crying as she eats somebody, sobbing, "NOOO... I DON'T WANNA!" The most disturbing zombie is the kind that knows what's happening and can't stop it.

Fact: people might know already but for the people who don't, the Victim is still alive even though the Headcrab in on their head controlling them. You can hear them say "Don't!!! Stop it!!! Why god?!?" And some screaming, and crying here and there. The victim's are still alive, but aren't in control, meaning they can't control their own body, the headcrab does. Sometimes they can since I saw a video of a headcrab zombie trying to take off the headcrab off his head by banging it against a wall. The victim is very aware of what's happening to himself. He can feel pain such as: Fingers growing, Chest Cavity being ripped open, Skull being torn off so the headcrab can control the victim's mind, gunshot wounds to any part of their body, explosion or shrapnel wounds, and etc. The best thing and solution is to end their torture and suffering. Killing them is like a blessing to them since they no longer feel pain.

when you shoot the headcrab off of a zombie, with some variations the face is completely melted off, the eyes are gone with only sockets left. but they are still alive, despite losing the flesh off their hands, having their chest torn open with their organs falling out, and their entire body is soaked with blood and coated in dirt, with tons of parasitic toxins going through their body.
