♦ Zombies - Evolution ♦ Sims 1 - Sims 2 - Sims 3

Apologies for my absence but life has gotten busy as of late, I was gonna continue working on horses as to not have gaps between that and the create a horse video but I wanted to work on something more spooky related given that it's October.
So, Zombies have been a staple in the sims until now. It's interesting how each time they've been improved but Sims 4's team doesn't seem to be that interested, as it's been 9 years and there hasn't been even hints, so my guess is they won't be reintroduced this time around. Zombies as a topic have lost relevancy in the media so this may be why they're being forgotten.
Either way, I don't feel as strongly about them as I should because zombies have been quite an afterthought. I don't think any of the games really know how to handle them aside from the undead part but I think they should affect the game way more than they do, what are your thoughts on this?
My opinion?
Sims 1 was a very basic step, they're revived sims with no personality and a filter, it feels like the minimum but they were included in a pack full of lots of gameplay so I'll give them a pass just for being the first
Sims 2 tried to expand on the ways of making them appear and they seem more distinctive than their predecessors, they were improved upon for sure
Sims 3's approach has been the best so far imo just because the idea of making them attack and be contagious aligns more with my idea of what zombies should be.
But maybe that's just me. What are your thoughts? Let me know and I'll see you on the next one

Sims 4 might not count, but it's definitely creepier. I love how they animated a "normal sims" reacting to the possessed state: start with a friendly conversation, their smile starts to fade due to the strange behavior, quiet shock when they fear an attack, nervous laugh. Really well done.

It really is a good reaction, the tentative face waving trying to call their attention before they jump back always makes me laugh though 😂The possession animation especially is truly disturbing to me. They're fighting it, violently, inside and out, then they get _that_ smile and you know they lost. Hello? Buddy? Are you there?? If that's not you, who IS??? Sims 4 in general does great animation wise - a lot can be said about the mermaid pack but the animations are amazing, I can't get enough watching that tail swish, especially compared to the mermaid knees of Sims 3.

To be fair, the animation from Sims 3 is also cool. One where they nonchalantly make fun of them, another where they're so terrified that they back off, and the one where they're still unsure if they will actually bite them

The rapid burial like they've fallen into cartoon quicksand (aided by the particle effects), with the head tilting and limbs floppy as they're pulled irresistibly down to the unknown, unaware of what is happening, followed by them forcing themselves up again like NOT THIS TIME BITCH with a growl and a scowl. Back but not intact. It's a quick but excellent animation. Truly a zombie classic. Bet the animator didn't get paid enough for it.

I was really annoyed by the Sims 3 zombies until I realized I could just fence my garden in and lock the gate - yay, plants protected! And then they became some of my favorite additions, since they're so random (like the full moon night they all showed up in swimsuits to line dance in my back yard, or the time they showed up at my outdoor wedding - I hadn't been paying attention to the moon cycle - and ate all of my wedding cake😆). I also love the "you're sooooo cute" animation that some sims do during a zombie attack, so Sims 3 zombies definitely get my vote!

I was scared of the zombies in TS3. I used to place several peashooters in the garden on every full moon night and lock my sims up inside the house just for good measure. But most of the time, the zombies who appeared didn’t do anything except stand still in the garden and growl all night and then go back to normal at sunrise. So after a while, I stopped being scared and just ignored them. I still made sure to get my sims home before the full moon came out though, just to be sure. To this day, I still don’t know if the zombies were supposed to just stand around or if my game was bugging.

its not a bug, I think what it is if they will queue up trying to attack your sims, but if they're inside they can't attack. so it's that they're trying to queue up the actions constantly

Sims 3 is a clear winner in my opinion for this one. They've fleshed them out more and not just made them more like normal sims with a few quirks. They're definitely not perfect, far from it, but they feel more like zombies.

Zombies eating my plants in The Sims 3 was so damn frustrating. 😠 They’re the reason why almost all of my houses turn into giant greenhouses and I always go to another lot with my selected sim to protect my trees. Saved my beautiful trees for a very long time until my witch sims learned the sunlight charm. 😏

You could simply disable full moon option, it doesn't affect anything except of werewolves and moodlet of fairies, but you can enjoy Supernatural without the annoying attacks).

I honestly think Sims 4 is the last main game for the franchise and they will have it go on indefinitely. Sims 5 seems like a mobile side game by how they are describing it. :/

The Sims 3 turning animation is great but the contagious zombies that also attacked every full moon were a pain. They were why I never bought Sims 3 Supernatural. The Sims 4 possessed sims are probably not literally zombies but they are pretty creepy (I just wish Sims got a moodlet for interacting with one of them, especially a friend- that would upset me!). The zombies were always a bit annoying or boring so not super upset they're not in 4. I think if they did do them again I'd rather have them be like voodoo zombies or a zombie like in Being Human (she was pretty much a normal person but falling apart/rotting) where they just randomly can't use stuff because something fell off. Maybe they could do something like iZombie where they can gain random people's personalities or abilities temporarily but I don't know how you can really do brain eating without being able to kill sims

I'm going to sepparate my comment in some sort of "paragraphs" because I'm trying to pass different ideas but... Don't wanna add multiple comments that are just me talking my opinons and... well, no one has the obligation to read, but... In case you are curious but don't wanna read it all... TO;DR: Despite not thinking posessed sims from ts4 are zombies, I 100% agree with what was said about them being creepier and the closest thing we currently have; But I hope actual zombies are added at some point and really hope they are well done; Learning all I learned in this video made me hope even more actual zombies are added, but they must be different than their predecessors to be better... (Moment that you stop reading if you don't care) I stand with what I said in the poll that I do not think Posessed sims are zombies, but I 100% agree with what you said about them being creepier, specially in comparison to the actual zombies from the other games... my goodness those sims get those eyes and that smile I'm not even able to express that in english... And... if you think about it, what I said as reason for them not being zombies because of their concept, well, that reinforces the point of them being creepier than zombies, not only because of their behavior alone, but also because of the whole concept behind them... I mean, when they are contaminated they randomly get posessed because randomly, the mother FRICKING TAKES CONTROL OF THEM AND GIVE THEM SEEDS SO THEY CAN PLANT MORE OF THOSE CREEPY FRUIT THINGIES... They are like a hive where the mother is the queen that controls everyone, but in that case... The queen literally posesses them and not even you (the player) can do anything about it... that's not a zombie, that is SO MUCH WORSE lol... it is really well done and... Seing how this whole thing is well done makes me feel kinda hopefull they can nail it when they add actuaal zombies... I really hope they will at some point... But at the same time... I feel a bit afraid of them doing zonbies as they did mermaids and aliens... What if they end up being, yet again, an annoyance, like in the previous games... I mean... Thinking about what we learned this video... in The Sims 2 they work as normal sims except for their slowness (it bothers me to see them walking as if a foot is broken and VERY misplaced, it's a neat detail that makes them have their creepy aspect, but... It's just aesthetic, other than that it's just they get stinky quickly (it's an interesting concept since they are zombies whose flesh is probably rottening, but on the real gameplay it ends up being just annoying) and they are SUPER SLOW... they reminded me of mummies in the sims 3 🤡 they are common sims with a couple of disadvantages. The sims 3 zombies are what I'd pick for winner, but... They are so annoying, I still feel a bit of a grudge towards them when I remember the first times I was playing with supernatural and was trying to grow some harvestables to make more money, my sim was super poor and then those... came at the full moon and destroyed everything... The idea of having my sims being attacked by zombies and being zombies for one night kinda amuses me, it's funny to imagine them making a big zombie party causing chaos in the streets and in the very next day everything is fine and no one is zombie anymore lol, but... Playing with a permanent zombie? Sounds more like a problem than a fun experience here as well... That's why I feel how I feel... I really hope in 4 when we get if we get, we get something that's only fun and not mostly annoying... Anyways... If you read all this and wanna say something, specially if you disagree... sims 1 zombies got it easy when comes to getting a cure for being zombie sims 2 zombies are pretty much left out in the cold for not having a cure sims 3 zombies are the most balanced in comparison o the other sims series zombies but at least we don't need to worry about sims 4 zombies well unless you count the stronger ville sickness that turns you into a freaky mindless zombie so i guess this could count as a state of being zombie but i feel like their not the same thing but it doesn't count but maybe it can count like a zombie like state of being at least?

I share the same opinion. The Sims 4 is around for so many years and EA just want money, you can´t run TS4 in a 10+ old PC anymore because of so many DLCs, TS3 had updates for only 4 years and i love it to this day, TS2 for only 4 years too and same here, TS1, which sims never dies, can be more entertaining than TS4...
