Hey girl. Love the video. The weekly home blessing is meant for a quick clean. Set a timer for 10 minutes. And only spend that much time on each task. Secret Slob says. Good enough not perfection. Shannon, you are great and I love your channel ❤
@joannamckay14052 жыл бұрын
Personally I find the weekly home blessing takes less time if you do it every week. Plus, the zone cleaning helps to keep things tidy and decluttered. When I do the weekly home blessing I don’t clean under carpets or furniture, that is for the zone cleaning.
@margaretsofocleous81372 жыл бұрын
True and I find weekly homeblessing hour gets easier if you have kept up with your daily morning and evening routines. It takes double the time if you don't clean away dishes and clutter first
@juliewright18952 жыл бұрын
Like Angela said, you’re “supposed” to set a timer and just move on. I can’t do that. It drives me nuts to leave stuff unfinished. Also, you were doing post party and post spring break cleaning so that’ll take longer. The Home Blessing it’s just a quick clean of the high traffic areas, like you mentioned. You were doing some deep cleaning. So don’t be down on yourself for not being able to do the Home Blessing faster, you were doing more like home rescue and Home Blessing put together. That’s OK! Sometimes we need to do that! Also, you have a good sized house and I really get the feeling that the zones are set up for smaller houses. I always have to add in more time because I have so many more rooms than what Fly Lady has in the zones. My high traffic areas just seem to take longer than the 10 minutes on each home blessing task. So you’re doing great!! Thanks for the video!!

I’ve been doing Fly Lady for many years. You will find that your Weekly Home Blessing gets faster each time you do it, as the house will be in better shape. I call mine “The Weekly Slap Dash”. Hit just the spots that ‘company’ would see!! The rest will be covered by the zones. For dusting, get yourself a dust mitt and literally walk around swiping the top of things as you go. You’ll figure it out. Trust the process, things won’t get better over night, but gradually as your routines become established and you move from zone to zone - throwing in a weekly home “slap dash” cleaning. Your home will always be presentable, and you won’t be stressed out about it. More of an even keel than either clean or a disaster area. Keep trucking - you’re on the right road now!

I saw a few comments mention this, but the weekly home blessing is supposed to be short, sweet and to the point. 10 mins per task, setting that timer, stop and move on to the next when done. High traffic only, saving the detailed cleaning for the zones. I totally understand why you'd need to do the extra the first time through though since you're still starting out. But when you do a quick once over once a week to start with, things definitely will stay cleaner. Love your content and you sharing your learning.
@LynnStAubin-od5qe2 жыл бұрын
As a perfectionist myself, my house was always messy. FlyLady is a good system once you go through a whole month. Cleaning my sink each night really does set a positive vibe in the a m. And USE a timer for every WHB. It’s easy to get off track but the timer will at least restart you on the next task. Biggest thing, always take care of yourself first. It’ll get better 😁
@martasantosbuch2 жыл бұрын
That 1 hr a week to clean the whole house is crap, so do not stress about the time. I've been doing Flylady for years, and it has never taken me less than an hr. Once you do it a few times you will know realistically how much it'll take for your own house, without comparing yourself to somebody else. You are doing great, I'm enjoying your videos and looking forward to watching more!
@emilasmith42792 жыл бұрын
Great job! Hysterical moment when the cord wasn’t plugged in. That’s me to a “T” except I wouldn’t have figured it out so quickly. For the home blessing you can break the tasks down thru out the week. It’s meant as a quick spin thru the high traffic areas. You were doing a post party deep clean which is cool too. I would just go easy on rest of zone cleaning for the week. You’re right. I can’t even come close to mopping and vacuuming whole house in an hour. So when I’m doing my zone cleaning like living room, I super deep vacuum and mop that room. Wipe doors and mirrors if any and super deep dust and polish. If doing blessing in that room I might do a quick swifter dry or wet in any messy spot and might just hit the noticable dust with a swifter wand (not polish). When blessing I might mop the kitchen but just highlights other rooms. I always wash sheets on Sunday but don’t do any other cleaning except dishes then. I’ve added a halfhour to my weekly one hour zone clean. I break it up over several days so I don’t get over heated and whooped. This last week I did living rm. Washed rugs one day. Curtains another day. Deep vacuumed all furniture and floors (and base boards). Mopped another day. And last deep scrubbed all the wood furniture w murphy oil soap. In no time (short bursts every day) it looked like I had just spring cleaned it. I did dishes, trash, light bathroom tidy and swish swipe thru out the week. Minimal work and house looked great for Friday guests. So key is deep clean on zone room(over several days) and then lightly clean others to maintain. Keep smiling! So happy you are feeling better! The steamer is a keeper! I’m thinking bathtub or shower grout and some serious car detailing in my world with it! Hugs! Em 🌸🌷🌸🌷🌸🌷

I am an empty nester, retired Grandma. I worked outside my home from the time my baby was 6 and created a schedule for cleaning 30 years ago and still do it today ,instead of trying to clean everything in a day. My children were responsible for keeping their “Stuff” out of the main living area or they had to buy it back with extra chores. A 5 year old can do an amazing job of dusting or picking up trash etc, even if you have to follow behind and redo,he is learning. I still tidy each room before I go to bed, makes it really nice to get up and walk into a tidy kitchen etc. in the morning , also easier to find the coffee if everything is in its place.

I think you did an amazing amount in an hour and a half. I usually do my evening routine (which includes sweeping and a quick tidy) and my morning routine (swish the bathrooms, load the breakfast dishes) before I do the home blessing. All I really do for that is dust/wipe down and mop each room and that keeps it down to around an hour.

Shannon you did great. I think things like whb and zone cleaning will go better when you keep up with the morning and evening routine which tackles hotspot messes and counters and dishes. My morning routine takes around 20 minutes including laundry and dishes and countertops in the evening takes less. Have a look at 31 babysteps lists and maybe from this develop your daily routines then the weekly homeblessing and zone cleaning will go so much easier as you are doing too much in the weekly homeblessing hour now. Don't despair get the help as you are doing .You are making great videos and please make sure you take care of you with plenty of time for something that you enjoy
@reginaeudy92492 жыл бұрын
Loved the video! For the FlyLady weekly home blessing (WHB) you just do 10 minutes on each task (set a timer). When mopping/vacuuming you only do middles of high traffic areas and you're not going for perfect just better. One tip that I do is every Sunday night we have a whole house "tidy" where we put things back where they belong then when I'm vacuuming/mopping the floors on Monday things aren't in the way. We try to do a tidy every night but we always do Sunday night. It also makes dusting go quicker. With dusting I bought a FlyLady feather duster and then I can quickly go through the house lightly dusting without picking up and moving items. Mirrors/glass you just go around and clean spots not the whole mirror (that's zone work). I'll spend a couple minutes on patio door with pet nose prints but still not the whole door. Another thing, I don't do mopping/vacuuming, mirrors, etc in the current zone for the WHB because I come back and do detailed mopping etc for my zone work. If I have the time and energy I might do the zone detailed vacuuming/mopping on the same day and WHB & 15 minutes zone clean for the day are done. I've been doing FlyLady for 5 years and it gets easier. Just do the best you can and try not to go over the time limit. Over time if you stick to your routines, 15 minutes of zone cleaning (only 4 days a week), and the WHB, every week, your house will continue to get cleaner and easier to maintain. Sticking to the time limit keeps you from feeling overwhelmed and getting exhausted. Sorry for the length but I hope you'll be able to find some of my info helpful. I'm so proud of how well you are doing and just keep trying to tweak the system to fit you!

Weekly home blessing. Make bed, swish swipe . Mirror n faceplate. Walls. (Swipe). Then kitchen sink , shine. Hot spots cleared. And floor mop traffic area. Vacuum traffic area . Entrance area n back porch :windows, kitchen windows. 2 mins (play FLYLADY music) stop at 2mins when music stops. You’re done.

Hello friend. One of you subscriber came over to my channel after she said you mentioned my channel in one of you videos. I wasn’t able to find that video but just wanted to thank you. Btw, you’re on the right track with the weekly home blessing. Just remember to mop and vacuum high traffic areas only and do a quick dust throughout your house. Don’t lift items up. It helps to start the timer after you have completed your morning routine so that way you aren’t working around dishes, messy bathrooms etc. Thank you again for mentioning my channel. ❤️

Flylady sets a timer often for 15 minutes and areas have to be done in that time. Sometimes she sets it for 2 minutes. The first time you do it, it takes longer if you haven't done it for a while. She also said to avoid perfectionism and working till exhaustion. Her system really does work it but you have to tweak it for yourself.

In my weekly home blessing, I wipe all the light switches and door knobs along with any lingering finger/handprints. I have grandkids here multiple times through the week. I also check all corners for cobwebs. I change my sheets this day also (I take off the dirty ones and immediately make it with the clean set - I have two sets that I rotate). I found it so much easier to remake the bed right then so it is over and done. I give the main bath an over-all wipe down (because again…grandchildren 😜) plus collect all the trash and get it outside (trash pickup is the next morning). I check my plants for watering and will then sweep/vacuum and mop the hardwood floors. Not sure if they can be steamed clean but I’ll check into it and maybe get one of the steamers…it looked like it worked really well!

Hey! First of all, wow, steam dealy is amazing. Yes, like everybody has said, set a timer for 10 minutes per task. If your house is especially grimy, you will NOT get it all clean and shiny on the first pass. Ten minutes won't be enough. BUT, you will hit it again next week! Again, just 10 minutes per task. And soon, it WILL be shiny. You'll have a head start because you were so thorough with your mopping, so that's great. But you don't have to spend so much time. Like you said, save it for the zone cleaning. I'm going on my second full month with Flylady, and it's taking me much less time to get into the nitty gritties now, after just one month. Also, a hack: I get worn out from a full hour of speed cleaning. So I break it up over the week. I spend 15 minutes per day doing "home blessing" tasks. Sometimes it's just one thing off the list, but by the end of the week, it's all crossed off. 👍

Then if I have anytime I will do a bit of zone cleaning.
