In this video, there are lots of Texas natives and well adaptive plants including: autumn sage, mealy blue sage, crossvine, whale’s tongue agave, wright’s skullcap, pink skullcap, Texas kidney wood, flame acanthus, goldenball lead tree, desert willow, and redbud trees.
I’m working on also creating my vegetable garden which will have Burpless cucumbers, Kentucky wonder pole beans, various herbs, potatoes, and kale

Thank-you! Ladybird Johnson Wildflower center in Austin has been a big inspiration for many of my plant selections. www.wildflower.org It’s helpful seeing the plants at their maturity and among other native and well adapted plants.

I understand these mistflowers are aggressive in a garden bed but they really bring in the butterflies!

Nice!! The nasturtiums also are tasty. Peppery. Watch for caterpillars on your Mtn Laurel. They are already on our three. I use Bonide Thuricide BT Concentrate and usually have to treat 2x a year. I lightly whack the webbing open first with a broom and then spray. We're waiting for the wind to die down as I type to treat then one out front. My Greg's Mist died over the Winter. Need to get to Grizzly's.

Digging some GM up for you now! I heard nasturtiums are an edible flower! I’ll be on the look out for caterpillars and I will get out with my BT after the rains this week. Thanks Jean!

New subscriber here! I’m in west Tx (Midland/Odessa) which is also zone 8b. Loved seeing ur native plants which gave me some great ideas! Our house faces west which gets brutal hot afternoon sun. I always start gomphrena from seed (it comes in many different colors), and put it in my mail box bed which faces west, and also in a bed on the south side of my house. It THRIVES (gets huge 2’ x 2’ by the end of fall) in both beds bc it seems to really love the heat, and ppl stop all the time when I’m outside and ask me what it is. Pollinators LOVE it! It’s constantly full of bees and butterflies that fly up every day when I go check the mail. I also have a weeping golden redbud tree on one side of my house which faces south. I planted it last fall, and it made it thru the winter, budded out, and now has beautiful yellowish green leaves. I’m literally so excited that it made it, and I look so fwd to watching it evolve in my garden! I really want to plant a Japanese Maple tree in my backyard which faces east so it will go into shade between 1pm-2pm. I’ve been hesitant bc I was told they don’t do well in Tx, but seeing urs makes me think I will try planting one in a new bed I just created in the backyard. I also have several sage plants (salvia) that I grew from seed last yr in the landscape, and I’m growing more from seed to go outside this yr. My tomatoes aren’t as far along as urs r (grew them from seed), but my potatoes look very similar to urs. I started my cucumbers and zucchini from seed inside and transplanted them out, and they look about as far along as the ones u started from seed inside. Tyfs! Happy gardening!! 💐💐💐

Thanks for leaving such a motivating comment! I’m trying to get better at propagating plants instead of spending all the money, so this comment was great to read. I’m excited about the color gomphrena will offer this summer and I hope my seedlings manage to survive my efforts 😝 I looked up that weeping golden redbud and found a ‘golden falls’ variety. Very cool form. I wonder how wide it gets🤔 I’ve seen several other Texas gardeners with Japanese maples as well, and so I say go for it! I do believe there are some that are more heat tolerant but in general I don’t think they are very sun tolerant. Thanks for coming along for the journey. I truly enjoy the camaraderie of other gardeners! Happy gardening!

@@theplantninja-texasgardener I went and looked at the tag for my weeping redbud, and it’s called Golden Falls Cercis. The tag says it gets 8-10’ tall and 3-4’ wide. Mine is approximately about 6’ tall and 2’ wide currently, but I just planted it last fall so it hasn’t been in the ground yet for a full yr. I’ve really wanted a Japanese Maple for a while so I think I will get one bc u’ve given me hope lol! I have noticed in my area that trees seem to do better here when they’re planted in the fall so I may wait until then to get one, but really excited about getting one now! I also meant to tell u that I have several of the cross vines in the tangerine color, but I’ve nvr seen them have the issue that u showed on urs. I hope u won’t have to remove the plant! Ty for replying, and I look fwd to following ur journey! 💛

@@theplantninja-texasgardener yes stay hopeful! They are Hardy to zone 7. Mine were under water for 11 days after Harvey and they survived. Pretty hard to kill
