Hey Austin! Always good to see a fellow central Texan in the comment thread! I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour and channel. I’m such a “tidy” gardener (every plant in its place) that sometimes I forget the charm volunteer wildflowers bring. I’m learning to let plants tell you where they want to be. These volunteer sunflowers have brought me such unexpected joy🌻

Hi, I love your video and the highlighted parts as you're building the shade structure. Just wondering if you're still using the structure in your garden? I'm curious to know if it's held up. Thank you!!!

I haven’t tried any in a long while. I last grew them when I lived in Missouri and they were so lovely. They were in full shade though. Eventually I’m going to landscape the northside of my house and hydrangeas are on my list.

I'm new here and visiting based on a recommendation. I'm in Houston 9b now. Weather has been very unusual the last 2-3 years with 16 degree days, extreme heat and drought last summer and now crazy hail which is rare for my area between Houston and Galveston. Even here that wind driven rain/hail shredded up leaves, especially on my roses. So shocked to see what's happened to your greenhouse, I can imagine how disappointing that must be. One question, you mentioned spraying for fungal issues with a copper spray? Are you finding it safe to spray in the heat of summer?
@theplantninja-texasgardener
@theplantninja-texasgardener 19 күн бұрын
Hello Houston! Did Jo send you over?!😬 Sorry to hear about your roses! I agree, the weather has been all over the place. I’ve been gardening this spot for about 5 years and trying to figure out the pattern so I can be more intentional and less reactionary. In terms of the copper fungicide, honestly I haven’t been spraying at the recommended frequency and with all the rain I wonder if my application has been very effective. However, I have not noticed any damage from the spray. Unfortunately, I still have plenty of fungus but I suspect it was because I already had some disease(primarily on my tomato plants) before the storm, and I didn’t get it early enough. Your question made me curious and I had to look it up. Here’s one article I’ve found: www.vegetables.cornell.edu/pest-management/disease-factsheets/minimizing-injury-from-copper-fungicides/ Sorry I can’t give a more detailed account from an everyday gardener perspective but I hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by to check out the channel!

@theplantninja-texasgardener yup, it was Jo who mentioned your channel and then another of Jo's subscribers also made a positive comment for your channel. I'll give the link a look over. I've heard contrasting viewpoints regarding the use of copper fungicide during the summer. Course I know to definitely not spray it or some other products during the midday of the day but am hesitant to use it even towards evening. Well you have a very lovely garden, quite different from Jo's, but both are very appealing.

Thank you for a great tour! Your garden is always such an inspiration and is so beautiful! I am working on the native butterfly garden that I put in at my old summer camp in Navasota, Texas this week, and I planted a couple of things (even though it’s June!) That I saw in your garden and chose for this one. Goodness, I knew that hailstorm was horrible, and I saw your last video, but seeing it again in a little clip in this video, just makes my heart stop all over again. I would have burst into tears! I would have been like that meme of the dog just holding a coffee cup, and saying, “everything is fine” when it is completely surrounded by fire. Everything has bounced back so beautifully, I can hardly believe that was just a few weeks ago! I just put a video up this week and in the heat of the moment, got the name of your KZbin channel wrong when I mentioned it. I’m so sorry! 😖😖😖 I am a bad garden nerd friend lol. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I did put it in the description and I hope others will find you as well, because you have so much wisdom! Have a great week and stay cool out there.😊

Hello sweet Jo! I definitely was overly optimistic after the storm first happened. I shot a quick reel saying “all is well!” Except it wasn’t…I may have had just a little denial😆 I’m so glad you find the videos informative and inspiring because sometimes I think I might be droning on about stuff everyone already knows😝 Also, I definitely consider that a big compliment because I love your beautiful, lush, and thoughtfully placed landscape. My stuff is still pretty sparse so I’m dreaming of the day my landscape fills in as beautifully as yours has. Don’t you sweat the name mix up! Happy you thought to give me a shoutout! Appreciate your kindness greatly my fellow garden nerd🙌

Good morning 🌞 Thank you for the tour. I am a little north of you, and yes, all that water really reeked havoc on my new natives too. Many are yellow at the base, ans some just drowned. I have had to dig a long trench to get the mini lake to drain. Also have brought in 4 cubic yards of compost to build things up…it has been a teaching of my garden with all these storms. Sorry to see you lost your green house. But looking forward to a new season of how your garden will evolve!

Hello my friend! I’m so grateful our lakes are full here but definitely don’t want one in my yard😝 This past year I’ve really been consistent with adding expanded shale when I install my natives and it might be why some have hung on despite my clay soil. Will you add a French drain? This gardener is close to Austin and he did his own: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKS5ZZl8ed2Ab9Usi=Dqr-eAzVnGXueKd2 Sounds like you are adapting and overcoming🙌

Greetings Ireland! 🇮🇪 I’m always excited when someone from another country watches a video. It makes the world seem just a bit smaller. Moving to a majority of native plants in my garden has been incredibly helpful with upkeep, especially once our Texas summers hit. However we have had an incredibly wet spring and a few of my natives haven’t tolerated it as well given my clay soil. In the last year I’ve started amending my soil with expanded shale(improves drainage)which has really made a difference so far. I really enjoy each plant you listed. My fall asters haven’t done as well this spring. It’s my first year with bee balm and it doesn’t disappoint in terms of bringing the pollinators. I almost enjoy what visits the garden as much as the garden itself. Thanks for taking the time to watch and share a comment!
