When the end switch closes, it means terminals 1 and 3 are the same node at 24 V. Terminals 2 and 3 are completely isolated.

Correct. Terminal 1 is your 24V power, Terminal 2 is your common back to the transformer and Terminal 3 is a isolated contact. So when the motor is energized, the end switch will close, which is between terminals 2 and 3.
