Super video, very informative. A question: I have a set up in my house similar to your demo board. 2 zone. On the hot water I’ve a cylinder stat that’s separate from the time clock (but wired to it). Problem is: when the cylinder water is at temperature the boiler continues to pump water, but doesn’t burn gas. At least it’s not burning gas but the pump is being used when it shouldn’t be. Any ideas?

Thanks for the video, spot on explanation of zone valve and it's wiring. Quick question. I have an UFH manifold, single zone without actuators. Can I run the circulation pump from the thermostat switched live output so that the pump runs up at same time the UFH zone valve opens? There's no need for an expensive wiring centre then, less things to go wrong

Good video and description , thank you. I'm increasingly thinking that the 2 port valve on the flow (from the boiler) on my unvented cylinder is permanently open and is being held that way by a connection from the immersion heater element. I think this is causing high heat loss - the valve is always hot and noting that the syncro motor only comsumes 5W (if I read the spec correctly) the heat is either conduction along the pipe from the cylinder or gravity circulation through the valve and along the heating loop. The question is...I don''t think i missed it in the video but how should the immersion affect the valve. (Re microswitch question...my understanding is that this is what allows the boiler to fire ...is only when the valve is fully open can the boiler start so that the flow is unobstructed beforehand. ) VMT J.

Hi Allen...Always enjoy your videos and thanks for the time and effort you put in to them, and they are always informative, no matter how long they are...I prefer the longer ones actually. When installing a boiler, and find the need to install a switch fused outlet, to power it up, do you do this yourself, or call in a sparks? I have read that there are defined scope electrical courses and qualifications that can be obtained to enable boiler engineers and kitchen fitters etc... which enable these folks to join one of the competent persons schemes run by NICEIC...NAPIT...etc... and certify the electrical works involved in such things. Basically, how do you go about supplying and electrical certificate for any electrical works carried out on the house/property circuits.....if any is done? Oh.....It's Tea. Happy New Year.

Thanks, is there any advantage to using this method to split multiple central heating zones verses using a manifold? I am planning to have 3 heating zones, 1 on each floor, and the boiler along with the motorised port valves will be on the ground floor. Each floor will be controlled by a Nest. I was told you can also use a manifold for this scenario. I've just known manifolds to be used with under floor heating zones.

In my house I have a Viesmann Vitomax 100-LW M148/8 furnace and heating is handled by a Danfoss ECL201 control unit paired with a Danfoss ECA30 on the floor. The valve is a Danfoss servo valve. Fantastic video, incredibly helpful and well explained! I have one question, what's the purpose of the microswitch? Once it clicks and it closes the circuit, what's the purpose of the switch wire? Is it to send a signal back that the zone valve is indeed open? Is it for fault-finding purposes? Thank you! By the way, tea team all the way :)

Haven’t opened one up recently but the Honeywell ones used to have brass teeth rather than plastic and they should really make a version without the manual override which they should supply with the unvented cylinders, as overriding is removing one of the safety devices from the system.

Honeywell 2 and 3 port valves used to be bullet proof, about 7/8 years ago they moved production to Poland I think ,all of a sudden they both became far less reliable, the 3 port ones did not always motor across to the end of their travel and just stop so unless you saw it doing it you would not suspect what could be a faily new valve ,this happened to me on more than one ocasion. The two port ones would jam as well. They probably have this sorted ,I am now retired so do not know if this is still the case.

This is great video and what I was looking for. 11:58 in the video and please check my understanding: so I have 2 zones. ground floor and first floor both controlled by thermostat. Heating is constantly on and when temp is not the desired one it will send signal and boiler kicks in and starts heating the zone it needs. First floor heating stopped working and I did move this lever to manual and it was giving proper resistance when moving. Now the first floor heating works when ground floor heating kicks in. And if what you say at 11:58 is applied to my scenario it is still faulty valve right? As valve is giving signal for boiler to kick in, not thermostat. Am I correct?

Another great video. Although I know how to wire zone valves up it’s still interesting to watch and see how other engineer work etc. How do you get customs business logo on programmer? Looks decent. I’m still waiting for complete review of the WB 2000 Series. Coffee always in morning then a mixture throughout day but mainly tea.

All the best for 2020, Allen! A quick question, are all combi boilers made with the same order of outlets and inlets at their base , so that if you changed a boiler for a different make, no re-arrangement of pipework would be necessary? Many thanks for answering my last question!

Alan.I have underfloor heating in a Orangery.I have noticed that when a heat demand is on,the temp gauge in the flow manifold goes up to 60* in two minutes. The system shuts, and the temp goes down to 30* on both gauges in the manifolds in two minutes. This cycle carries on/off for an hour until the thermostat set at 22* is reached. Is this on/off cycle correct. Thanks for the vids, excellent.

Can you add a zone valve for a hot water cylinder (coil) on a combi boiler? I’m thinking of adding two zone valves for heating areas and a separate one for heating an external tank (for a more powerful shower with a pump) as our incoming water pressure is rubbish.

You should consider a cold water mains accumulator cylinder that will give excellent pressure - assuming you have a decent _static_ water pressure.

Am i too late for a question about these? I just moved into a new build and none of the upstairs radiators are working. I've contacted the builders and people that sold the house but they don't want to know. I watched some of your videos, I bled all radiators and checked trv's and taps on all the radiators are all OK. I will be checking the zone valves when I get a chance, but is there anything else I could look at if this still doesn't work?

Can I use actuators on a floor heating collector to close off zones? I'd feed each room with 1 pipeline and have rads in the rooms instead of floor heating. Each room would have it's own thermostat to regulate the actuator. Or is something wrong with using it this way? Happy New years! Zone Valve

It would work but the response time is not too great so you might find the bypass has warmed up and the boiler has cut out by the time the actuator has opened. You might need actuators with an open-switch so you can activate the boiler when one or more has opened. Either that or a delay start for the boiler.

@@AllenHart999 - I have just subbed and incidentally since also learned how to drain down the system. Namely shut off system mains supply, drain down from suitable point below the lowest zone valves to be removed and opened bleed valve above drain point. I kept the drained water into a container and put it back thus retaining de-rust solution ratio and de-oxygenated water.

It seems as though the programmer and thermostats are sending power to the valves only. Then a switch within the same valve will send power (switched live) to the boiler - all seems like a dumb rather than smart system! I guess that’s the why it’s always been done. But I can see the benefits of this modular system in that parts can easily be interchanged without effecting the end result.
