I’m a Windows user who recently bought an IPad 11”M4. It works for most of what I need to do when travelling. The light weight is not real because it’s completely countered by the need to protect such a fragile and expensive device. If they made it a little more robust and gave it a hinged back like the MS Surface it would be perfect and you would not need a case The Surface is a better design. My iPad lives permanently inside a heavy protective cover that nearly doubles the weight. The silly and expensive Magic Keyboard also makes the device heavy and is unbalanced and does not offer any drop protection. You may as well get a MacBook. I use the standard Mac Bluetooth keyboard that is very light and only slightly wider than the iPad. I use the on screen keyboard for most things (like YT comments) other than serious writing, so most of the time I don’t even need that. Why do you even need a track pad if you have a touch screen? Learning the iPadOS was not difficult and I keep being pleasantly surprised by the user experience the more I use it. I use MS Office and the simplified functionality is enough. I haven’t used many Apple apps yet but I am liking the overall Apple experience it is just a matter of working through the learning curve. I do like the 11” size for portability and the screen is big enough and quite astonishingly good when you watch HDR content, the blacks are black and the sun is blinding.

For what the iPad does at the moment. I do believe we can replace the laptop. If you are a IT professional or your needs are a lot greater than others. I would say setting up a VM on your Home network and (with proper security rules) connect to it with Apache guacamole. This will allow you to use the iPad without any hurdles or limitations. Furthermore, we are at a time where we have plenty of options than what's offered from Apple. Example, you hate the magic keyboard, you can build a low profile wireless Bluetooth split keyboard and customize the key mappings (Lily 58). Lack of delete key makes remote desktop painful, and the iPad version office apps, the external display scaling experience, the mouse/keyboard shortcuts, it can’t compete with any Mac. Honestly I’m comfortable paying $2000 for an upgraded iPad Pro with macOS, it’s still cheaper than the 13 inch MBA ($800) + 13 inch iPad Pro($1300) + $350 Magic Keyboard. But if it’s limited to iPadOS, I can only pay $500 for the 11 inch air+$3000 for a configured MBP.

Did you try using Final Cut Pro on the iPad ? Great video just got my 11 inch iPad M4 and I agree the screen is incredible

On the ipad you would use the… Shift + Option & Arrow… to select the whole word (6:15)

I am so stuck between which I should put more money into in my tech refresh: 1. Put more money into a Mac or 2. Put more money into an iPad. I’m a beginner video editor. I know how to easily use LumaFusion, but don’t know how smooth using Final Cup Pro would be. (I also own this software) I’m hoping to start a KZbin channel and didn’t know which would work for it best. Which do y’all think is better for starting a KZbin channel and would last for at least 5 years doing so

Can I get the link for the wallpaper that you have on the iPad?

You basically confirm this iPad is better than any devices out there.

Simple inference(no need to overcomplicate it) :- The ipad is tablet and the mac is a pc. You can definitely replace mac with ipad for moderate use, but not as effecient as the latter, and vice versa. The ipad and mac are not the same.

Thanks for the analysis. Seems like you were trying to do everything on the keyboard without tapping the screen. Was that because it’s the most familiar for you? Just curious if you or your team looked into the issues you had to see if there was a simpler resolution you were just missing because of a learning curve on using iPad OS for productivity. For example I think there was possibly a better way to ‘download’ your video and skipping the photos app. Not sure but curious. Might be an interesting video to see you discover solutions that are simpler.

Do you think that it worth to get the 1TB version not just for the extra core but for the 16GB memory. Thinking on the furure?.thanks!

I can already tell you that as a software engineer I cannot do this. My iPad is used for taking notes in meetings, signing documents and most importantly acting like a secondary display, though I tend to prefer Universal Control these days.

Great video. You made some good points about the iPad in your workflow but one that I think was off was harping on the Mac keyboard shortcuts not working on the iPad. iPadOS is a different OS. It would be like picking up a Windows or Linux device. The best test is to immerse yourself in the device for 30 days. There are so many other use cases than video editing, but I realize that is your career. Think about other professions where the iPad could be a no brainer.

I don't think I would ever replace my MacBook with an iPad. An iPad is like a big iPhone for me. I use it for scrolling Twitter and media consumption such as TV, movies, books and comics/graphic novels.
@manart65066 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think the closer the working load is related to media (photo & video editing, art) the more sense has to prefer the iPad.

Before diving into the idea, it's crucial to thoroughly understand how things work in practice. While some specialized use cases might benefit, the usefulness largely depends on your specific workflow and needs. In reality, if you frequently require even simple functions like copy and paste across multiple scenarios, sticking with a traditional laptop OS may save you a lot of frustration. The iPad OS is quite limited, especially in environments where cross-software functionality is essential. You can thank me later for this advice.

Exactly! There is no way to have the feature of paste board history like Alfred for Mac is so frustrating that I bought a M4 MacBook Pro to do some research work sitting on sofa (I'm retiring and feeling enough is enough to sit in front of a computer desk with 2 big screens connecting to my M1 Max MacStudio). The other major setback is the lacking of table feature in my favorite notes app (Keep It). Make no mistake that I'm replacing my M1 iPad Pro 13" for books reading, web browsing and youtube.

You can save video directly to Files by choosing Share > Save to Files You can choose another media player like KM Player to pause the video and still see the timestamp In short, it's not the iPad, it's you

All the iPads are really great device. Like the best! However, it's just that somethings (screen sharing, data transfer, key shortcuts, etc.) of iPad OS sometimes really makes me so angry that, i just have to carry both laptop and iPad for work. In the end of the day it's a tablet and a laptops a laptop.... which is also why i personally think that iPad air line up and iPad mini line up are the most suitable for anyone. For a daily designer if Apple doesn't fix up this screen sharing system like Samsung did their DEX, i think I'll switch to Samsung tab while carrying a mini 6 for stuffs.

I have the 13 inch iPad Pro, what drive me nuts when I try to use it in a similar way to the Mac in terms of keyboard shortcuts. Apple should make the experience as close as possible
@Tech4YourNeeds6 ай бұрын
The problem releasing similar apps to the Mac is that those apps are not made in mind with touch input. That is the struggle that developers.

My experience was almost the same 😢, that's why I am returning it. As an tablet it's great, but as soon you use keyboard and trackpad/mouse it's very very limiting and badly optimized.

Did you find the 13 unwieldy as a handheld and do you think the topple on the lap would be a long term issue? Honestly it’s starting to look like the 13 is less tablet and more laptop.
@thewaythingsare81585 ай бұрын
Glad I watched this, I was nearly convinced but I can see the top heavy ergonomics is annoying on the lap there. You would have thought apple would have counterbalanced that with more weight in keyboard underside. Simple solution or am I being simple here? Annoying compromises are off-putting.

Apple should move the the apple pencil charging to the other side so when you close the case it holds the pencil against the spine

ipad pro HW is amazing but the OS really needs to catch up just depends on how far Apple would like to go but if it’s in Steve’s day, he will perfect any of apple product instead of thinking about the market share between MBA/Ipadpro market share (or think way before both annouced)

hotspotting works fine when I use my MacBook, so one less pro for the ipad. I replaced my home pc with m4 and I recognize all these friction points. On top of that I feel nervous when travelling only with this device - what if I encounter a problem I cannot overcome in IpadOS? However, I am happy with my choice of challenge, and there is still no way I can in a productive way replace my macbook I use for work. So, two expensive but great devices will be in my portfolio for years to come.
