Sorry for making you all wait so long for such a short episode! Last week I got caught up paying the Mouse a visit:) You're probably wondering why John Ball didn't get its own intro or rating video. Most of the sections are small(er) and quick to walk through so I would basically be giving a full look of the zoo, and then there would be no point on making separate in depth tours for each zone. Here's another tour of the Pygmy Hippo Pavilion that goes into more detail about its history: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2qlY6Z-hJulgrM Concept Art for the Indoor Exhibit: wolvgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Pygmy-Indoor-Viewing-548x480.png John Ball Zoo Master Plan - it's not very animal focused, but I should mention that this is more of a park than it is a zoo: jbzoo.org/masterplan/ Link to their 2015 Master Plan, but if you know anything about zoos, you know this version is out of date: www.wmmi.net/documents/urbangr/JohnBallPark-2015_Master_Plan.pdf Zoo Website: jbzoo.org/ Zoo Shop (they're seasonal, so this is the best way to support them): jbzoo.org/shop/ Zoo Map: jbzoo.org/zoo-map/

Thanks for linking my tour! It's great to see another one of my home state zoos make it on Zoo Tours. I hope you can make it to Binder Park (my home zoo) someday, although I understand you haven't had good luck trying to go there in the past. As for my favorite exhibit with just one of two species it's got to be Detroit's Arctic Ring of Life. I wish it still had more than two species, but it's a spectacular exhibit either way.

By the way, when are you going to do a video on the San Diego Zoo or the Los Angeles Zoo?
@RockNRollAyronius11 ай бұрын
This is actually my local zoo. When I worked there as a caretaker last summer, I got to clean the viewing areas of this exhibit and even got to be right next to their female pygmy hippo Penelope. The glass was the only thing between me and the hippo. Thankfully she was sleeping, I don't want to end up like the sitatunga that was the exhibit with them at one point. Poor thing.

Yes finally john ball zoo! Super underrated place.

That’s a very well detailed Pygmy Hippo Exhibit, I’ll have to add this place in my list and also fun fact John Ball has a female Amur Tiger named Mabelle that was born at my home town zoo-Columbus and as for the multiple species exhibit question I’m also gonna go with the Savanna Exhibit at Heart of Africa also in Columbus.
@ZooTours11 ай бұрын
The question pertains to major attractions dedicated to one or two species:) Ex. SeaWorld's Penguin Encounter; Houston Zoo's Elephant Habitat; Omaha's Sea Lion Shores. Heart of Africa displays many species.

@@ZooToursah I see now, yeah I’m gonna have to agree on the Elephants Exhibit at Houston.

When I went to school in Lansing, MI I have to this zoo a few times. It has been 20 years so it looks like they added so much. Not a big zoo but very fun! Zoo videos are so hard to do and I think you do it the best.

If I had a nickel for every time someone made a tour for the pygmy hippo pavilion at the John ball zoo. I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.

My personal favourite exhibit would be the Grey Crowned Crane and Kirk's Dik Dik enclosure at my local zoo (Colchester). Not because its anything special, but just because love watching and photographing the family of five Dik Dik and two cranes!

My favorite single species focused exhibit is probably the Trek of the Andean Bear in Nashville. Of the 6 or 7 zoos I've been to, I have yet to see one give such immense attention to detail to a single enclosure as Nashville does. And the exhibit is just massive. Really feels like a very humane and natural way to showcase the animal.

Cool pygmy hippopotamus exhibit! Maybe next time when you visit the San Francisco Zoo, Zak, they welcomed Udo the pygmy hippopotamus that moved from the San Diego Zoo last year! And here are 4 zoo trivia questions for you & your girlfriend.... 1) How many years did Shaunzi the female Asian Elephant lived at the Los Angeles Zoo before she passed away last year? 2) What year did the San Francisco Zoo originally house dingoes? 3) How many American Alligators moved in the Sacramento Zoo as their new home? 4) How many years did the San Diego Zoo house Bactrian Camels? My favorite zoo attraction is the African Savannah exhibit at the San Francisco Zoo, which they should expand it & welcome more new animals! Heaving Afrovenator!🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘

My favorite exhibit that focuses on one or two animals is the Elephants of Asia exhibit at the Los Angeles Zoo.

I was there a week after it opened. At that point there was only one hippo and the cranes were in the other exhibit. If they now have two hippos, I can see the cranes being backstage or moved because of the incident you hinted at.

Pygmy hippos look cute and harmless but they are territorial and aggressive. It was a bad idea to put a sitatunga, or any other species, into the same enclosure with them.

Nice start to John Ball Zoo and choice of exhibit. I like Monkey Valley a section in Wild Africa at Binder Park Zoo that has Black and White Colobus and Black Crested Mangabey Monkeys. 🙂👍🦛

During the season, I walk at Binder Park once a week, and I often catch them coming out on exhibit, so my walk gets paused. LOL And while I'm sure it frustrates the keepers, watching them trying to get the monkeys to go on exhibit can be entertaining.
