A major underrepresented animal in zoos are gaurs. I remember when the Toronto Zoo had them and it was pretty special. They moved to another zoo to make way for an outdoor orangutan exhibit

In Europe, I've seen gaurs in the Madrid zoo, the Paris "Menagerie" and the wildlife park of Cabárceno (Cantabria, Spain).

Loved this zoo!! The monkeys when you first walk in were one of my favorite exhibits they were cruising/flying through the trees.. Had a great day there, highly recommended

That is true, but the toco toucan has the longest beak of any bird! Unless I’m wrong it may also be the sword billed hummingbird

@@savannahvarns2126 actually, you're wrong. The beak of the male australian pelican Pelecanus conspicillatus can grow up to 0.5 meters or 1.64 ft which is even larger than the toco toucans.

Underrepresented: Gaur, Malay Tapir, Kagu, Southern Cassowary, Mountain Bongo, Mountain Tapir (now only LA Zoo), Shoebill, Pygmy Hippo, & the Sumatran Rhino/Kakapo/Indri/Philippine Eagle which are all understandable

imo there are a lot of underrepresented species in zoos, microbats, kraits, quolls, cuscus, Quetzals, cetaceans, sirenians, amphisbaenians and more just to name a few

Under represented species in zoos I think are African springtails, aardvarks, South American bush dogs, giant Gambian rats, giant Indian squirrels and Australian quolls

If you ever go to Europe, you must go to Valencia (Spain), to see the Bioparc Valencia (an outstanding african-themed zoo which is the 9th best zoo in the world, and houses almost every representative species of Africa, including some rare animals) and the Oceanografic (the biggest, and in my opinion better, aquarium of Europe, divided in different pavillions wich show species from all around the world, like belugas, bottlenose dolphins, a lot of sharks, Aldabra tortoises, coral reef fish and aquatic birds). I also recommend the Zaragoza river aquarium, my home town acuatic facility, which claims to be the biggest river aquarium in Europe.

congrats on the 20k! As for the question in the vid, i have always wondered why so many rodent species are missing from zoological institutions given how relatively easy it would be to house and breed them successfully, how endangered some of them are, and how many of them there are out there!

I think an underrepresented species are Guam kingfishers. There are only 140 total in the world and they’re all in captivity but the only ones I’ve seen in person aren’t easily viewable so a breeding program would help show off these gorgeous birds

Underrepresented animals? So many reptiles, birds, fish, small mammals, amphibians, and inverts (especially inverts). The did have some blue-billed curassows & black-throated magpie jays. Also, what breeds of goats were in the encounters area?

It's interesting that common elands are pretty rare in North America since they're a very common sighting in Europe. I do think it's surprising that they're common here in Europe since they're one of the largest antelopes in the world.

I like okapi but not many zoos have these elusive animals in their collections. I always go by to see them at the Columbus Zoo. Sadly they lost a baby okapi a few years ago since these animals are difficult to breed.

I would say one underrepresented animal in zoos or aquariums in this country would have to be emperor penguins, since you can only find them at SeaWorld San Diego.

Honestly I know zoos are breeding the more endangered tropical tigers which is the Malayan and Sumatran but I kind of wish that Bengal Tigers the orange variety would be good to have back in zoos again

I just went to Brookfield Zoo yesterday and it was horrible. Many of the exhibits are empty and not what it used to be. It’s sad to see my home zoo so lifeless. Edit: Brookfield Zoo also allows you to brush the goats
