Zoologist "DRAGONFLY 2021" Fragrance Review

Yeeaaahhh....I am so enamored by the original dragonfly that it really, really jaded me. I was angry when they reformulated it because Dragonfly was my 2nd maybe 3rd favorite Zoologist fragrance after Bee and Squid! I am actually so, so grateful I got a bottle of the original Dragonfly literally a month before they announced the reformulation and it disappeared forever! So, now its one of my most coveted and beloved fragrances in my collection...But, look the 2021 Dragonfly is nice - but, to me - I don't like the "greenness" of it. To me - Its a freshie, a fresh/floral - Yeah, like you said, "It has a bite!" And the original was sooo ethereal, soft, strange and MAGICAL! The rice had a lot to do with that - How they used the rice in the original was so, so cool. So, I wish I loved the new Dragonfly but I feel like a kid at a birthday party who had a chocolate cupcake (chocolate is my favorite) and another kid bumped me and the cupcake fell on the ground - and the kid was like - sorry...And they got me another cupcake but all that was left was vanilla...And so, I am sitting in the corner scowling - holding my vanilla cupcake..LOL. Like refusing to eat it even if it is delicious...LOL!!!

I have the original Dragonfly and love it! It smells just like an early morning spring day around a pond, the cherry blossom, iris, rice, heliotrope, and rain accord are amazing together. Such a work of art!

Squid also gives that aquatic feeling without being a blue, marine, or aquatic per se.

Both version of Dragonfly don't speak to me. Seahorse also didn't really speak to me and I wish I didn't blind buy Musk Deer because I barely can smell it, so I am happy I got a chance to sample Seahorse before I decided to blindbuy it for the special edition. I still need to buy Moth, Civet & Hummingbird. I like the oldschool Zoologist better, however the latest releases are not bad either, just not entirely for me.

Nice to hear you again about a Zoologist perfume! It's a rich and deep description on this fragrance! Did you try the new "Macaque Yuzu edition"? it's sounds to be a fresh and sparkly take on incens. Au fait, chez moi on dit effectivement "Benjoin" :) kiss from France!

Ooooh, your review makes me want to smell this again. I wasn‘t too keen on it at first, the sample I have was just a bit too sharp smelling, biting my nose, and I kept thinking I wish I could get my hands on the original which seemed more fruity and fresh. But that was a while ago and maybe I need to revisit this one and smell it again. Thanks for inspiring me to get the old sample box out again.

Thank you so much for doing this review - I blind bought this fragrance and I do absolutely love it, but its something that smells better on my partner than it does on me (damn it!). I would love to find a bottle of the purple version!

Great review. I feel the same way with it as it evokes a lot of images, colours and tones but I find it hard to get a hold on it more specifically. Quick practical question: where are you getting 10ml bottles of Zoologist perfumes?

I had a hard time with this one too. Tried it a few times. Each time, the opening was gorgeous. However, EVERYTHING falls away within 15-20 minutes and it turns into a single, very masculine, vetiver note on me. Nothing else. Nothing feminine or complex is left on me after full dry down. Super disappointed. If it held on to the initial notes, I would consider a bottle.
