Thank you for this. I bought the mic a while back but haven’t decided how to position it.

Thanks for watching. It’s a great sounding unit, but mine also doesn’t get as much use as I’d like.

Great video - how is the unit situated overhead - with mic’s parallel to floor or pointing down towards drums? Thanks.

Downwards. The mics are always pointing at what the camera is pointed at. They are not adjustable.

Great, thanks Shane. I'm looking for a recorder to check out my drumming (I shouldn't be the only one not to suffer!) and this sounds ideal.

This works great if you just want to listen back and see how you sound. I wouldn't try any tracks with it though. I'm glad this has helped you make a decision. Take care!

Overhead Stereo. I agree. I need to change my over the shoulder tripod to an overhead boom that can hold the recorder.

I had to get a Tama Roadpro stand with a heavy bottom to hold the H6. I feel like I could get this one overhead with just normal mic boom.

Thanks Shane! I actually managed to get some decent recordings a couple of years ago with a Zoom H4n. (Thank you, btw!) I really like the "Overhead Stereo" H2n recording that you shared here. Could you please share the details as to how you accomplished that (i.e., mic placement, direction, etc....)? I have the older "H2" model, but the same should basically apply.

This is a great video and inspired me to go beyond with our jazz band rehearsal recordings. Thanks a ton! We tried an overhead zoom h2n XY over the snare and zoom h8 XY pointing to kick drum. However the cymbals are very loud in respect to snare especially with brushes... Any suggestions? Note I didn't want to put the H8 XY overhead since it wouldn't be nasty with all the xlr cables above the drummer :)

I have an ekit and planning to use real cymbals. Would this work placing it overhead and plug the output to the aux in the module for practice recording?
