PLEASE READ: This is not a performance video and I’m not trying to do a Rush cover. This is a DT Tour soundcheck. We don’t carry percussion and had to get this recording done. I used a midi keyboard out of necessity, am dressed in bed clothes and this is only a couple of the actual takes of the recording of Xanadu for the Rush release, A Farewell to Kings - 40th Anniversary. Although I did NOT FILM MY FIXES and you’ll see me playing the wrong part while hearing the right one, this video uniquely compliments my Rhythm Knowledge, Volume One philosophy on focussing in various, challenging situations and environments. I’m posting this to convey the reality of what occurred when I did track the song.
In order for viewers to get a flavor for a Sound-check environment during a long tour, you’ll see and hear lots of possible distractions from the lights and background noises while I recorded this. I muted the camera mic after the intro section. Also, it is impossible to match the original version of the song, especially on this kit configuration. I cared very much about doing it the best I could. I had no choice but to play the verses with righty hands and lefty feet given this set up. This video is made from a couple of takes (eye glasses on and off,) while the repair take was not filmed.
