I've had one of these for a couple of months to record my podcast. I hate to admit this, but I just bought a new condenser mic and was having so many issues with how quiet it was and end up buying a cloud lifter to get it back up without distorting it with increasing the gain. Literally 3 minutes in to this video when you were talking about the -20 db switch I looked at my recorder and I had that turned on on my mic and switching that off fixed my issue and now I can return the cloud lifter that I don't need yet. Thank you for saving me $150!

Excellent walk through. I just ordered one, now that the price is even less than the H4 (under $200!). But to get that price down, lots of accessories no longer come with it. Just the quality sound of the stereo mics alone, on the H4, are worth the price of the whole unit. And I hear the H6 is even better. 👍

Hi, I just watched your video, thank you very much. I was wondering if I can use a lavalier with the zoomH6. I usually make blog videos, I just moved to zoom h6 so Im looking for the best option for recording.
@thepodcastmasters4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! That totally depends on the lavalier. You'll need to know what kind of voltage the lav mic takes, so that you can plug it in without damaging it. If it's typical +48v like phantom power, you can connect it using the 1/8" jack on that XY mic at the top of the H6. If it's lower than 48, you'll need to A) get a 1/8" to XLR adapter (amzn.to/2YZvaO9) and B) change the voltage on the input you're using to match the lav mic (either 12 or 24) by going to Menu > Input & Output > Phantom > On (to turn it on) and also Voltage to set the correct voltage level. Good luck!

Could you go into more detail of what the "Pad 0 to -20" actually does? I thought it gave a boost so that I wouldn't need a cloudlifter but from watching your video what I am understanding it is more of a limiter. Which if you have a hot microphone or instrument it limits it so it doesn't keep peaking. I just want to make sure I understand what the Pad does.
@thepodcastmasters5 жыл бұрын
Brandon Krieger it’s the opposite of a boost basically, what you said is correct
@artjohnson016 жыл бұрын
At 7:00 you described the “plug-in power” as selecting batteries or external power through the mini USB plug. I don’t think that is correct. I believe plug-in power is something you may need if you are using a lav mic through the XY mic connector. Lav mics usually need low voltage...plug-in power.
@johnhorrobin85606 жыл бұрын
Art Johnson I agree, there is confusion between USB power and ''PLUG in '' power. older cheapo mics used that,, about 1.5 volts ,, Can't seem to get him to understand the difference.

You are correct, Art, the "plug in power" switch controls the power to the 3.5 input on the XY mic connector, not the USB plug behaviour.

8:07 you should ALWAYS record with 48 kHz @ 24 Bit if you're recording a podcast. It's the best sound quality without creating extremely large raw footage, and every software and service like auphonic will work best with these settings. Also if you use StudioLink or however work with other podcasters, 48 kHz 24 Bit is the standard that the podcasting community mostly has a consent in.
@thepodcastmasters3 жыл бұрын
I believe standard is still 44.1 @ 16 unless you're recording video, which is 48 @ 24
@marctestarossa3 жыл бұрын
@@thepodcastmasters OK, then maybe standard isn't the right term, because different things have different standards. But 48 @ 24 is the setting that I would highly recommend, because you will have the least compatibility and desynchronization problems with all these different software and services. My recording software requires this setting, StudioLink uses it and if you want to merge recordings from different sources into one project, you can stay away from much trouble if settings are always the same. And the actual space you save isn't too much, especially nowadays where hard drive space is cheaper than ever.

Could you please tell your audience how to retrieve the file they just recorded? You end this video with actually showing how the Zoom records but then you don't say how to access the file.

By default Zoom creates folders on the SD card. Load the card into your computer and "H6_SD" will appear as an external disk. Under "FOLDER 01" you will see all your recording files

It's not a "charge cable"....there's nothing to charge....it's a power cable to provide power instead of the batteries...the recommended batteries are not the rechargeable type.

I use rechargeable AA batteries. I just charge them separately.
