The track pairing and unpairing (long pressing the two track buttons) is important because if that accidentally gets activated, there's nothing in the menu indicating how to unpair them. I read it in the manual a year ago, but couldn't figure out how to unpair them off the top of my head.

This is a FANTASTIC video - thanks. I’m a podcaster looking to record interviews in the field. And I plan to record direct to the SD card inside the H6 (i.e. I won’t have access to my computer while recording). Each interview will feature several interviewees. And each interviewee will have their own dynamic microphone - and will be recorded on their own unique channel on the SD card. Once recording is done - and I’m uploading the recorded audio from the SD card to GarageBand, will each interviewee’s channel appear as a separate audio file on the SD card? If so, do I simply create a separate track in GarageBand for each interviewee - then drag that interviewee’s SD card audio file into their unique GarageBand track?
@thepodcastmasters4 жыл бұрын

This video is invaluable! Just ordered my zoom h6, haven't even received it yet but eager to learn how all this recording stuff works. Around the 20 min mark in this video you talk about headphones (specifically the splitter vs the headphone amp) when multiple tracks are being recorded and everyone has headphones...if the microphone itself (mine will be ATR2100x but haven't received it yet) has headphone jack and we are each using same mic/headphone setup, can each person just plug his headphones into his mic? I really just want to know if I need to order a headphone splitter. Thanks in advance!!!
@thepodcastmasters4 жыл бұрын
If you're recording onto the Zoom, you'll want to monitor the audio from the Zoom as well, so you'd plug the headphones into the Zoom H6. If you decide to use the ATR-2100 on your desktop or mobile device, then you'd plug the headphones into the ATR's headphone jack. Good luck!

Thanks for the video. I'm trying to connect the Ronalds CS-10EM binaural headphones. I placed the red 3.5 mm minijakc on the Y connector (2 normal output jacks) to record each channel separately and put the black on the headphones. In this way, I hear a background noise that increases when I increase the gain. Phantom is connected and configured with 12 V because they are condenser microphones. I do not know how to eliminate this noise. I need to record with these headphones. Any information will be useful. Thank you.

Question...everyone and their brother says record in wav due to the higher quality, but ultimately I mix it down to mp3 to export so do I really need to record in wav if the end game is a mp3? Or does the quality take a hit going from mp3 to mp3 vs wav to mp3?
@ShawnKitchen5 жыл бұрын
An MP3 file is a compressed file, and some data gets lost in the compression. If you make an MP3 of an MP3, then you're making a compressed file of an already compressed file. It'll sound worse. Always record in WAV, which is a lossless format. You should always start with as pristine audio as possible.
@Radiounderground5 жыл бұрын
Shawn Kitchen thank you sir

In addition to what Shawn said, if you ever need to clean up your audio, it's best to have the original WAV recording, as this will allow you more flexibility.

Thanks for the great video! Question please: Do you find any need to use a Triton Fethead or Cloudlifter device to help amplify the signal while keeping the gain dial lower to help avoid any unwanted background hiss/humming noise from the H6 while recording? Some users say the preamps on the H6 are noisy and will use a Fethead or Cloudlifter for a cleaner louder signal. Just curious what you think about this. From my own experience from having the Zoom H6 for a short time, I notice a background humming noise if I crank up the gain dial past 6. I try not to go past 7 if possible.
@thepodcastmasters4 жыл бұрын
I've only had to use a preamp when using mics like the SM7B that have a lower gain. I don't notice too much noise from the H6 in general, but when I record I'm normally using SM58s or ATR-2100s and they are louder than the 7B

Im new to podcasting so please excuse the uninformed question. Why use a Zoom H6 with SD card? Cant you use a 4 channel audio interface directly to your computer?
@KidsOnBeats4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what your needs are. Each has their pros and cons. Using the Zoom H6, you get the portability of having an interface to work remotely, and can podcast on the go if needed. The only downside of this is compared to a home studio audio interface, you dont have any output channels if you would want to, for example, connect studio monitors or speakers. The Zoom H6 might also be a better choice for on-the-go videographers who want to record video while also capturing good audio using XLR mics, which wouldn't be possible if you only had a home studio audio interface. So in the end, it really depends on what your needs are.
