ZooTampa at Lowry Park // Tampa, FL with Kids

Hey Tribe, come along with us to Zoo Tampa!
ZooTampa at Lowry Park is home to more than 1300 animals over 6 animal habitat area
We started our day in the Asia section which is home to animals like the Indian Rhino, Tapir, Sun Bear and even has an Aviary.
Next, we visited The Florida Wildlife section which has Red Wolves, Panthers, Black Bears, Sandhill Cranes, Skunks, River Otters, American Alligators, and our personal favorite Manatees. These animals are from across Florida and the Americas, and some are rare and threatened with extinction.
ZooTampa's David A. Straz, Jr. Manatee Critical Care Center focuses on rehabilitating critically injured, sick and orphaned manatees. We literally could have spent the entire day watching the manatees!
ZooTampa is an autism-friendly zoo and it shows! There we plenty of areas for Roo to have a sensory break, and they also offer distract packs to borrow, and an Autism Friendly Zoo Map.
Our favorite area at the zoo was Africa, primarily because of the Expedition Wild Africa tram ride. It's a 15-minute guided tour through the back area of the “Safari Africa” section of the zoo.
Africa was also our favorite because this area of the Zoo is where a lot of the Up-Close Encounters happen. We had an encounter with an Aldabra Tortoise and the girls could not stop talking about it afterwards!
Some of the other animals you can see in the Africa section are the African Elephant, the Masai Giraffe, Hornbills, African Penguins, White Rhinos, painted dogs and even a pygmy hippo.
After a sensory break, we headed to the Primates section which was our 2nd favorite area. Some of the animals in the Primate habitat are the Bornean Orangutans, Colobus Monkeys, Lemurs, Mandrills, Guenons, and the Siamang. Most of the primates at Lowry Zoo are endangered in the wild.
There is also the Wallaroo Station that we didn't visit this time around, but has several rides and attractions for the smaller kids.
Here are a few quick tips for your visit to ZooTampa:
Plan for 3 hours to be able to walk through the entire zoo. The summer months can get excruciatingly hot in Florida especially so try to arrive at the zoo right when it opens to avoid the heat.
Admission is currently $44.95 for adults and $34.95 for children kids three years and under are free.
