Never noticed it before but, after this video, I realized that there is some good character mirroring and themes that make this story really satisfying. Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie all struggle with feeling trapped in one way or another. Aladdin is trapped in his self-concept and social status, Jasmine is trapped physically in the palace and by the governing laws, and Genie is trapped in servitude and physically in the lamp for millenia. The ultimate way they share their feelings of being trapped though is through not being seen as valuable for their character/personhood until they build their bonds between them which is actually quite deep. I really like this theme since it's so universal.

It could even be argued that Jafar feels trapped within his own social position, being ever so slightly shy of the amount of power he desires. He’s a reflection of how desperation, ‘imprisonment’ (metaphorically), and negative self perception can literally drive a person mad; a fun foil to Aladdin in particular, who manages to overcome these obstacles.

As a side note, the extended lore of this specific Aladdin, has Aladdin technically being a Prince...Just the Prince of Thieves. Aladdin's father, Cassim, left when he was a baby to try and find a better way to live, a way to lift his family out of poverty. Unfortunately by the time he retuned his wife had been dead for many years ad Aladdin had been an a presumes orphan for as long. When Cassim returned to Agrabah, he couldn't find his wife or son and thus raged and left, eventually becoming the leader of the 40 Thieves, one might even say, the King of Thieves. So I mean if you want to spin it, technically Aladdin IS a prince, just an unknowing one and one that has a band of 40 thieves as his 'people'

i feel the direct opposite. i see the carpets relationship with aladdin as something beautiful. aladdin gives the carpet a deep sense of purpose in life, a reason to push forward. i believe it is a mutually beneficial bond as 1. aladdin does not fall to his death on multiple occasions, and 2. the carpet has a friend to protect, one that relies on him, one that needs him. thank you.

I think what makes Dylan so likeable is that when you're watching his content, he just has a way of making you feel like you're hanging out and having fun, not just watching a KZbinr for entertainment. Mix that in with just a down to earth, very funny in multiple ways, and intelligent and it's no wonder he's rising to fame like this. You go Glen coco!.

I have never seen a KZbinr love one of their old jokes so much in a video that they proceeded to spent several minutes trying to find it and when they couldn’t they looked at the comments to see if a fan quoted it then went to the comments under that comment to find the time stamp. And then proceed to laugh at their own joke for a another several minutes before actually starting the review. That was such an odd yet amazing experience. Thank you Dylan. You always know how to make your videos entertaining and fresh.

the tv show showcased perfectly how clever jasmine and aladdin are and how well they work together in all kinds of situations. they even had secret undercover missions and all that jazz. it was a fun show. for me jafars return is not as good as the king of thieves sequel, but maybe you just watch them both and see what you like better.

Part of the negative depictions that they mention in the text at the beginning is that in the original lyrics of “Arabian Nights” one of the lyrics is “where they cut off your hand if they don’t like your face” The merchant at the beginning is voiced by Robin Williams. A common theory is that the merchant is the genie because Robin voiced both, they are the only characters with only 4 fingers, and the merchant is wearing blue with red around his waist. The theory was proven recently by an employee who worked on Aladdin who shared a deleted scene where the merchant transformed into the genie The voice actor for Jafar plays Jafar in Broadway

There's also the line "it's barbaric but, hey, it's home." I think it used to be permanently removed from the film, but for some reason they decided to put it back in and leave that disclaimer instead
@phoebusapollo8365 Жыл бұрын
@@onaarchie6837 I don’t see how that line is a bad line, pretty much any kingdom in the earlier times was considered barbaric, what with Greeks roasting people alive in bronze bulls, Romans crucifying people, Europeans inventing hundreds of new torture ideas and putting men in suspended cages to starve and get eaten alive by birds. It’s not inaccurate to describe ancient Middle East as barbaric, pretty much any region in the world becomes barbaric when you put “ancient” in the front. But because it’s a foreign culture god forbid we call out the shitty things they did in the past for what they are, shitty things.
@onaarchie6837 Жыл бұрын
@@phoebusapollo8365 It’s racist because they’re attaching barbarity to it because of its connection to the Middle East. I would think that would be obvious. It’s not as if there’s any question of the level of cultural sophistication attached to the princess’ host country when you’re watching Cinderella or Sleeping beauty. There’s also nothing about the movie to denote that it’s from an ancient society.

As someone who recently realized the absolute beauty of sparks of Jasmine and Aladdins relationship ams well as how quick witted, smart and creative Jasmine and Aladdin is and seeing Dylan appreciate them to the fullest so much makes me really happy! Also one if the things I really like about their relationship is that the movie made it very clear that Jasmine liked ALADIN ,street rat poor Aladin and she only started liking Prince Ali because she realised it WAS Aladin. Love that detail.
