It had the 5 cylinder and was slow but had the rear locker...I got a 4 door wrangler now... but them h3s still look cool ...🎉 I'm thinking of getting another one with both locking differential s they will become a classic....

Alpha owner here. Only reason you couldn’t keep up with the 392 is that you found an Alpha without the Offroad package which includes the 4:1 transfer case and locking rear differential. I have an Offroad Pack; it is unstoppable. Also, you didn’t keep your momentum driving up the rocks or through deep mud. Closest thing to locking the right/left together is similar to Humvee locker engagement by applying light brake application to help prevent freewheel spin & keep traction. Get an ARB air locker or two and swap in the BW4494 transfer case and an aluminum shift fork.

Two things. One, obviously as you already know, you did all of this WITHOUT the TWO optional lockers in the rear and front. This isn’t even the most capable or half capable version of an H3. And two, I’m not sure if you already know this but Hummers have a specific kind of Traction Control. There’s no way to actually turn it off as the TC button only lets you put it into mode 2 which allows more slip as needed off road, but more importantly it works by braking the tire that has less traction but you have to give it slow constant throttle to make it engage, it’s not instant. Giving it gas for one or two seconds real quick trying to hop over a rock you’re stuck on isn’t enough time to make it actually kick in, brake the free spinning tire, and put more power to the tire with traction. Another key word was “slow”. I don’t think an actual number is written in the manual but there is a certain speed threshold that you have to be under for it to work so you can’t just hammer the gas trying to get out of a hole and the TC give more traction to the bigger gripping tire. You have to apply slow constant throttle and then in a couple seconds the system will kick in, work its magic, and give you much better grip. Love Hummers! Enjoy!
@Zorbii2 ай бұрын
All of my off-roading had actually been done with 0 TC or ABS. Because of the abs module failure, I wasn’t getting any of those assisted features. Since this upload I’ve fixed a lot on the Hummer so hopefully it will do better with traction next time I’m out!

Exactly what I was thinking, lockers and high clearance bumpers will make a huge difference. I'm anti-RTT unless they're on an overland trailer. It's a lot of extra weight to carry around all the time and they stick up too high and raise your center of gravity. Get a Smittybilt Scout trailer if you're set on an RTT or think about a Gazelle tent. Cheaper and just as fast to set up.
@brizzzy58002 ай бұрын
You need to invest in some tie rod sleeves for that IFS on such big tires. You can see both tires toed in when you were trying to climb that rocky hill. Try kryptonite products. The Chevy Tahoe ones might fit. I have them on my Tahoe on 35s and they give me extra peace of mind

@wheelin2 ай бұрын
I learned to wheel on an H3. Your truck has a limited slip diff so if you apply the brakes while one wheel is in the air, the other side wheel will receive power. Look up two foot off-roading and it will make your truck similar to a lock diff (not the exact same but similar).
@codemy666Ай бұрын
An LSD would power the opposite wheels even if the other ones are in the air (obviously not compareable to a locked diff), this is clearly an open diff that requires you to apply the brakes to get the wheel on the ground to spin while the other is in the air

now drop 6k on a LS3 and a 6l80e swap, although not recommended for off-roading as you'll probably obliterate your t-case or front diff, I would recommend go to a local salvage yard, many are connected to a entire network of salvage yards and you can get the front and rear locking diff and electronics for a couple grand. Your 7.6" front end diff will be pretty fragile when it comes to adding more power and doing some hefty off-roading

I'm looking for a regular 5 cil H3 just to kill the wngine and swap it for a vortec engine. Probably I will choose a 6.0 L96 engine as it is the most reliable vortec/LS engine ever made, it weighs the same as the 5.3 cuz the block is the same and it makes more power due to the bigger displacement. Not sure about the transmission though, maybe the 4L60 is good enough, but if possible, I want the 6L90 (the heavy dutty you find in the 1 ton trucks with a gasoline 6.0). For the transfer, I think it will do just fine as it is, but maybe I will end up with a proper mechanical one and the lockers have to be air lockers, no way around it. The only thing that is bothering me is the lift... I know a 35" tire will lift it a bit off the ground, but a proper lift is better, maybe a 2 inch body lift to fit 37s and give it one more inch of clearance will do it, but there is only one way to find out right?
@Zorbii5 ай бұрын

What if you consider previously to the lockers, and cam the engine just to fix it correctly? :D Nice vid, but as a Hummer h3 Alpha owner I can tell you that your brakes were not fixed right the second time you were offroading. The ABS light was On, that would turn off the traction control that is AWESOME on Hummers. You need to fix correctly the brakes + traction control system (check your rear brake lights in order to test if they work), if not then the brake pedal switch its shot and the traction control would not work too. Please always remember that first rule doing anything with a truck/car, its to have it correctly serviced!

I'm allways in confusion. Should i get a hummer or a jeep.
@Zorbii2 ай бұрын
Depends on what you’re looking for in an off-roader. For most people, a Jeep would be the better option.
