This theme is so cool. It tends to get overlooked because of how awesome All Hail Shadow is, but it matched what Shadow was going through in this game so perfectly. And Everett Bradley is an amazing singer in this game.

I'ma be honest. I do not care for All Hail Shadow and find the lyrics too corny to take seriously. Throw it All Away is the superior theme imo : )

"It all starts with this, a jewel containing the ultimate power" I admit, I had to listen to this song multiple times to appreciate it, but I can safely say it's a perfect song for his mentality in SA2.

Lazy Days (Livin' in Paradise) has to be next BUUUUT, since you touched Throw It All Away... there is one of the game final boss, "Supporting Me" which goes by this style (and it's awesome too), because is shadow-related... in fact, you gotta know that Sonic Adventure 2 not only has character themes, but also vocal stage and boss themes: Fly in the Freedom? rouge's stages sound like that (and they're wholesome); Unknown from m.e? knuckles' stages, and the same with shadow here there are many of them (like 5 for each one), they're just shorter than main character's themes.... who knows, there might be room for these reactions later some other time haha (my fave stages' themes are from rouge, for example, "I'm a spy"...) shadow is so cool in this game ah, this main character song is my fav from the Adventure 2 bunch btw

Shadow is an artificial being, the ultimate life form. He's the most lore heavy character in the series and in my opinion his story in adventure 2 is the best in the series so I wont spoil anything, but his personality is essentially a shadow (heh) of what sonic could become if he lost everything... everything except a promise

A good theme is Big the Cat's theme from Sonic Adventure, "Lazy Days (Livin' in Paradise)". It's very different from most Sonic music, and is a VERY beloved song by the fans. It's catchy as heck, to boot :P

"Now, wake up" This is Shadow's introduction as a heavily conflicted character who also suffers from partial amnesia due to being in cryo sleep for 50 years, far before any of the cast of characters were even born (except Eggman who was a child at the time). Shadow was created by Gerald Robotnik as an artifical, immortal life form and was raised on a space colony located outside of the Earth's atmosphere. To make a long story short, Shadow didn't know his purpose for existing to begin with, and only knew his familial ties with one Maria Robotnik, who, among many others on the Space Colony ARK, were murdered by G.U.N. which is basically like a united nations military force. Maria, though a child, managed to save Shadow in her last moments and sent him down to Earth, but he was captured by G.U.N. and locked away for the rest of that time. He's a stranger in this world and at this point in his story, seemingly only cares about attaining his goal: revenge on the humans and Earth itself, and sees that as his reason for existing. I love that you pointed out the cadence and tone of the lyrics. Always found it interesting that they are often descending, and I wonder if that's representative of his character. Shadow was an inherently compassionate person deep down but has lost everything and is lashing out at whatever he can, and continues to lower himself in order to be at peace with what happened in the past. Also, despite being an immortal life form, he was arguably still quite mentally immature at the time all of that went down. He also had a very limited perspective on the world due to being separated from it, and from his point of view, it probably feels as if it just happened and he clearly hasn't been able to process it.

The composer of all the Everett Bradley, Rouge and Chao music in SA2 was actually a woman named Fumie Kawatami or something. I think she had the most interesting ideas of anyone working on that game. like this song where you can hear it gradually progress to a much clearer, less distorted and better sung ending from how it starts. The lyrics also reflect the journey that Shadow goes on through the game, at first believing he was told by his late best friend to get revenge on people for what they did to her, but slowly he realizes that what she said is actually what he didn't want to believe she did, which is to forgive them. That's reflected in the repeated phrase "wake up," the talk of a door that Shadow hasnt opened, and a light that follows him everywhere and will face him as long as need be until he embraces it. There's a reason shadow was the most popular character of SA2. The game was really about what he brought the table, which is the best character story, and music with personality and depth. Honestly though for reasons I won't say this should've been the ONLY game he appeared in, except for like, party and anniversary games.

For the next song to listen to if you want to dive into shadows character a bit more, I suggest "I am...all of me" from his own game "Shadow the hedgehog"(fitting name isn't it). I also suggest watching the lyric video by our good old friend yesmen10! As it shows footage from the game in the background. You definitely heard the song in the Sonic 30th anniversary Symphony but I feel like it's worth going back and listening to the song itself. (I also saw someone suggest one of the Shadow boss themes from sa2 "supporting me" also a banger!)

Now from the Adventure games, there are 2 (or 3) themes left, E.G.G.M.A.N. Eggman's theme from SA2, Lazy Days (Livin' in Paradise) Big's theme from SA1 and E-102 Gamma's Theme if you also want to react, it has no lyrics but it's really pretty and says about Gamma just as much as the others, and if you react to Gamma's Theme you may also want to react to E-101 Beta's theme, reacting to both in the same video would be good, the end of Beta's theme leads directly into the start of Gamma's theme as if they are one big song, which makes sense in story, not only because they are from the same robot series but also because they are brothers that fight for 2 different world views

This song is very underrated to me and it suits him so well in SA2. This song doesn’t get enough credit to me and they give the vocalist flack for sounding muffled or whatever but it’s clearly intentional it’s matching shadow’s chaotic experinece. Whereas he’s much more sure of himself in shadow the hedgehog the game his songs are more badass and straightforward. And by the ending theme he is triumphant. Also this song hit me hella hard when I was going thru a bout of depression lmao. Also the composer doesn’t get enough credit. Her name is Fumie Kumatani and she did a lot of shadow’s music and rouge’s songs in this game. Pretty sure she had kids and left the industry around 2010s but she did such a good job.

I used to hate this song as a kid, sounded like a bunch of noise to me. But now its one of my favorites. and easily my favorite Shadow theme. I just couldn't understand what it was going for back in early 2000's.
