Sonic really prides itself on its music lyricism. It's no surprise that the most beloved songs all have lyrics

A cool thing about sonic music is also how inspiring all the vocal themes are they really do pump up you and sonic to defeat the enemy its not just good lyrics in a song like a lot of other vocal themes could be in games

@@jackalsniper4232 True true. The lyrics and vibe are nuanced and literally add to the hype, adrenaline and dopamine you get by subconsciously "empowering" and motivating the player to overcome the challenge. It excites the spirit tbh.

The lyrics essentially have a triple meaning, they offer words of empowerment towards sonic and the player, they tell parts of the story and how sonic feels, and most importantly, they show the sonic team’s design philosophies and hopes for this game. With lines like “running from the past is a losing game, it never brings you glory” and “it’s time to face your fear” from undefeatable and “you lose the battles that you never fight” from this one, show that the team understands that Sonic has struggled in the last decade but just because they made some games that weren’t good doesn’t mean they can give up. So it represents the team’s desire to not run from the past, but embrace it and move on to give us this wonderful game. The credits theme essentially just means “thank you so much for staying with us”

Yes the lyrics have to do with the story. They are usually back and forth between sonic and the bosses.

I mean, if you stretch the meaning maybe, I see it as more just badass fight music other than I’m Here. It’s not like with Cod Zombies EE songs that actually have hidden meanings and clues directly related to the story and piecing it all together, plus giving plot details.

@@h3industrialcomplex220 No not really. The songs are meant to have double meanings attached. I actually realized the songs actually spoil some parts of the game if you pay close enough attention and each song has something to do with the others.

I've noticed a theme with the trinity of boss theme music. with undefeatable, it's about not letting the flame go out and continuing on. with breaking through it all, the line where it mentions how it comes back around to light the flame has to do with how to keep it burning, and finding your flame seems to be finding a reason to light the flame, to begin with. just an interesting thought.

All that's left is Find Your Flame and I'm Here. All the song's lyrics corelate to the story in some way; Sonic Team is always known for having songs with killer lyrics. There's also the Ending theme that actually corelates both to the story, AND also speaks as Sonic Team's words to the community, "One Way Dream". Name might sound familiar, but its sung by NateWantsToBattle. One song before the ending theme though, is QUITE a sad one that is LITERALLY related to the story in lyrics and tone (its supposed to be sung by a major character in the game, pretty sure that's the voice actor singing actually) that plays at the END of the game, so it'll be a change in pace, "Dear Father." Sonic Team is VERY well known for giving Sonic games some amazing OST, regardless of quality of the game. I'd wholeheartedly suggest listening to the top liked ones (they're all amazing.)

A little specification, the music stuff is Sonic Team, not SEGA. One Way Dream even talks about how despite the "gravity" they won't give up. SEGA very much did not seem to care about the game given how much they didn't want Sonic Team to have the funding or staffing for their vision and how they tried forcing the game out last year just to have a release, until Sonic Team begged for extensions to at least try get the story wrapped up for release.

The lyrics work like this: sonic has a long story of bad games, frontiers is almost considered the "either a great game, of the last one in the franchise" so the first three titans songs are basically saying to EVERYONE "no more playing around we have come with all we got, we have bad times but we are still getting up, and if we fail this time then it's over" you can see this in the lyrics when they say "NO more compromise, this is do or die" or the part "if we don't come down, we'll be lost in the wind" or "if we don't reach the crowd, we'll take the whole thing down" unfortunately the sonic franchise since 2006 has had low support from sega by rushing the games, making the franchise from bad to worse, and this game is meant to be a reborn, hence the reason the songs are done in that style of message.
@EternityVoid_
@EternityVoid_ Жыл бұрын
1.I think that's kinda a reach. Sonic has more good games than bad objectively but people have different ideals on what makes a game good. I do think Sega has problem with rushing games tho. 2. The songs for the titans are more about Sonic & his friends.
@elisabethsun7059
@elisabethsun7059 Жыл бұрын
@@EternityVoid_ that’s the thing about Sonic songs, most of the time each line has a whole lot more meanings than you first think. The most prominent example is “What I’m Made Of” with each line being able to fit both POVS (Sonic and Metal Sonic’s) with different interpretations of the song for following either one, some more catered to one than others, and it fits, Metal is literally based off of Sonic’s data after all, so it makes sense that they share similarities but this is such a unique take on it and I love it.

After your done with the boss themes, may I recommend the main theme "I'm here" and the credits theme "One Way Dream"? There's another named "Dear Father" but the lyrics are spoiler heavy and hit the hardest after you've beaten the game, so it might be best to save it for some other time. As for other Sonic songs, "Knight of the Wind" and "With Me" from Sonic and the Black Knight are amazing. And this isn't necessarily something you'd want to react to, but just something to watch on your own time, but there's a really good video essay about leitmotifs in Sonic music by AltheBoi I could legit go on for hours about Sonic music alone lmao, there's so much of it and it's all so good!!

One thing I noticed in the Wyvern fight especially was the lyric: .."What goes around, comes back around again.." does correlate to one of the mechanics in the fight where the Wyvern will strike at you once and then it will come back around for a second or even third strike. So the song does essentially warn you that there's another attack coming. I'll have to go through the lyrics of the other songs to see if they do something similar but this fight was the most obvious example for me
