Thank you for taking the time to make that explanatory post - thought I’d broken my 4 but no! Deserves a film putting through it now 🙂

Brian, THANK YOU! You saved me. I was about to take my Zorki-4 apart. I don't know if it would have survived. It remains now in its original, beautiful, functional, condition. Mike R.

I have a Zorki 4k and love it. The black Jupiter 8 50mm f2 lens is a stellar performer.

Thanks you make my day - I took the first roll and after I didn't rotate the shutter speed collar as you describe - I believed was broken 😀

Can't wait for the review. I'm curious about the VF. I'm shooting a '37 Leica iii and enjoying the miniature carry-everywhere size, but a combined RF/VF is attractive. Check out the Fed 2. It has a really long RF base length for focus accuracy.

This function of the shutter button is also needed in order to roll the film into a second cassette, which was installed instead of the take-up spool. In Soviet stores, they almost did not sell film in cassettes - it was sold in rolls, and the cassettes were sold separately. I think that this is not directly related to Zorki (because there is no replaceable take-up spool), but Kiev has the same system, and there is no take-up spool in the kit.

You probably know this, but that release is threaded to accept a cable release. BTW I can smell that leather case from here! Memories...
@BriansPhotoShow4 жыл бұрын
Yes, this Zorki 4 accepts a standard threaded cable release.

The functionality you are demonstrating is available on some rangefinders and found on the shutter speed as "T"
@BriansPhotoShow3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've heard of that. I don't do much long exposure work, so I'm not really familiar with the differences in usefulness of the B and T functions. I think B requires that you keep your thumb on the shutter release cable whereas T doesn't. Or something like that.

Video @ 4:31 "Bulb - used in conjunction with flash bulbs" - Not True. Many years ago when they had very slow film emulsions, a rubber 'bulb' that pneumatically actuated with some distance, the shutter release (via a rubber 'bulb' that the photographer held & squeezed with his hand). This was utilized so the heavy camera mounted on a tripod didn't shake/vibrate while taking the picture...

My shutter speed button doesn't turn when I turn the far right piece. It's stuck is there an easy way to release it?

LOL soviet cameras. I have a Kiev 4 and I do like it because of the quality of the Jupiter 8 and 3 lenses, but it sure is clunky to use.
@BriansPhotoShow4 жыл бұрын
I've never used any of the Kiev series. They were supposedly the upper tier of Soviet rangefinders.

Cheap Russian crap. Throw it away. Save up and buy a Nikon SP/S3 or (if you can afford it) Leica M3/M4.
