Dont worry Ange. In an old interview Oda was asked if the One Piece was something immaterial like family bonds and Oda replied "No, I Hate That Kind Of Thing. That's like the ending of The Wizard of Oz, which I watched when I was a kid. Adventuring that long, and having the adventure itself be the treasure, is really dissatisfying. Those kinds of stories are impossible. It feels like, 'I've gone on this long adventure, so give me the treasure!'" So it is an actual treasure, we just dont know what.

As you can imagine there are a loot of storys and backstorys in one piece. And the beauty of it is everyone has their own favourite one. Subjectively i think untill this day they get better and better and better

Moments/Episodes like Gaimons are not really filler per say. They are very much made with intent. These moments are there to showcase character traits that the crew have. Luffy saying "no" when it came to giving the treasure show that he is very empathetic to a person who is passionate about their dreams. This is why Gaimon says "Straw Hat you're a really great guy" These small little moments are what build our characters and show what they are all about in small ways that build up over time. People complain about the Live Action being so short for this very reason, because theres not enough time to really highlight their personalities and show how they interact with each other, episodes like this do exactly that. One Piece fans LOVVVVVEEE just moments where the Strawhats can just interact with each other in silly low stakes situations like this. As the story goes theres less and less time for these moments so they are often looked upon fondly.

it's kinda funny to me that in this story people get thrown at mountains destroy half of it from the impact and still don't die and then there's also kuina who died from a simple fall from the stairs. It's just such a contrast lmao and she wasn''t even weak child she trained and was pretty strong.

That’s just it. There are people strong as an ox who have died to the simplest of accidents or illnesses. And there are weaker people who have come out of some pretty serious things with nary an issue. That’s how life can be.

I get that people found the live action fun, and I know you enjoyed it and it got you into the anime, but the anime does literally everything better. They added so much stuff to the live action that didn't need to be there, and took out a lot of these moments that needed more time and emotion to be fleshed out, and to me personally, it robbed the story of a lot of its soul.

i dont think absolutely everything, there were a few moments i did like more in the LA, but they just werent that significant. I personally enjoyed Zeff a lot more, and also LA did follow the manga backstory rather than censoring it. There were also a lot more small moments. But yes i agree anime is better in 95% of other places.

Kuina and Zoro are the kind of polar opposites: One was a victim of cruel fate, a promising life cut short. The other is a defier of fate who refused to die despite the odds.

Yeah, that's what happens when you get so much more time to dedicate to a section like Zoro's backstory. They had to cut a lot of the background and try to boil it down to the absolute essentials. I think they did really well in the live action for the restrictions they had.

When people tell you Oda has “pretty good foreshadowing” that is an understatement 😂 Oda does foreshadowing like nobody else! So much that when you watch a new arc you feel like rewatching the series again, it can completely re contextualise certain things that have happened previously. I love One Piece for this reason, the world building, characters and lore are the best out there. This is why One Piece is my favourite story of all time.

Johnny and Yosaku Dawgs rise up! I love when side characters get to tagalong with the straw hats for a little while to get some commentary from outside the actual crew. Johnny and Yosaku were the two characters I was most disappointed about them not being included in the live action but I get it. They're not important to the overall plot but I enjoyed those two goofballs while they lasted.

On the episode itself, there is still debate on whether Kuina fell downstairs or was murdered (there is even a famous mème of a "Down D. stairs" character, expected to be the culprit, please don't search for it as it may be a spoiler). Some of those who think that Kuina died in a tragic accident also claim that, thank's to this rather unceremonial death, zoro learned how life can end in an instant which contributed in forging him as a character and a swordsman, you might see that once you will get to know him more.

I have watched over 20 reactions to the live action series. So far, I haven’t seen any one of the reactions who found Zorro’s backstory bad and you even said it’s terrible. in the live action. I can’t agree with that. It was short but even in the anime it’s really abrupt. it’s meant to be like that. if that was bad, I think your backstory standards are really high. I dont know if this was intentional but in the live action, even that it wasnt mentioned how Kuina died, they actually put an easter egg on how she died during the battle of Zoro and the two subordinates of Kuro on episode 4. There is a scene where Sham (the green haired cat pirate girl) stole the Wado Ichimonji (Kuina's sword) from Zoro and then following up by falling down the stairs, which simply resembled how Kuina died (this is more believable to be intentional because of the fact that they changed Sham's gender into a girl)

So many people either forget or don’t really think about the fact that Gaimon literally says to buy the world itself. Luffy being the richest man on the planet isn’t talked about enough among the fan base. Being pirate king is one thing, having a royal family or starting a lineage and being recognized as nobility etc etc. But enough money to buy everything up is wild.

[spoilers in the final paragraph] A bit more of Kuina and Zoro's backstory was released in the Q&A much later. It's generally assumed the author wanted to intclude Zoro's origin in the main story nad was building to it for a long time but eventually he didn't manage to do so so he disclosed a few things in the Q&A and confirmed a couple of fan theories with that. It also kinda fit's Zoro's character not to really be interested about his past and ancestry as that's not in his character. Zoro and Kuina come from the couple of immigrants of the island of samurai. Both come from an aristocrat faimy that coruled it and are distantly related. Zoro is not aware of any of that.

The parallel of Zoro climbing the well, and his backstory done likewise, it was done in a good directorial way. Longtime anime fans loved it as well, sure some moments like the whole community aspect was missing, thats a downer. Not knowing how she died, was one to one with the manga, her falling down the stairs was an Anime addition. So LA only guys did not like how it ended, and so felt that the backstory was weak.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this but Kuina’s death is a bit controversial in the fandom because “Falling down the stairs” is a Japanese expression to hide a death by suicide/domestic violence. 🥲 Regardless her death was still a sudden and tragic event for Zoro 😢

It is not either of those things and people always mentioned it. It’s just people trying to give extra to Kuina’s death which ruins what Oda was going for. She fell down stairs and died as a result. Life is fleeting. Life is fragile. And losing his friend/rival/goal to something that simple makes Zoro more aware of that.

Zoro and Usopp backstories both got pretty rushed treatment in the live action, but mostly out of necessity. Lack of Johnny and his partner are similar. Once you finish Arlong Park and catch up to where the LA left off you'll understand exactly how much stuff was cut/reworked/compressed to get down to 8 episodes.

Both Sanji and Zoro are my favourite characters. I just can't choose one and i can assure you will gonna love both characters but in a very different way since both characters are very polar opposite but both have such a likeable personality. Live ation Zoro seems kinda edgy and not so funny but anime Zoro is whole package of daddy and also very funny. And, about One Piece treasure being only friends you make along the way is kinda cap since Oda already confirmed it as tangible thing and you may kinda guess what it could be after going through episode to episode or arc to arc. Even we manga reader do not know exactly what it is but we can guess this now at least. Hope this is not spoiler😅 Anyway love that you guys enjoying it. Every arc is like journey and you guys will feel that you are also with them together on their journey like strawhats. Enjoy the ride and hope you get more one piece fans as subscribers. GOOD LUCK!!
