Awakening your devil fruit after only 2 years (fastest known in the verse) when you have beings like Kaido who are still unawakened is insane to me. I wonder if it’s because of training, his love for giraffes, the fact that it is tier 3 ( carnivorous like lucci is tier 2 and mythical like Kaido is tier one) made it easier to control or master, or because he had a partner to awaken his fruit with making it easier as well, or a combination of all these things. Even if he isn’t the strongest, also mastering the 6 powers, being the strongest swordsman in cp0, and combining them with his awakened zoan and armament all while not losing his humanity.

I think it's really interesting how in Enies Lobby I really felt like the CP0 crew were goofy looking, but Oda worked hard to make them an imposing threat. If Lucci is stronger than Kaku even here, and Zoro fought and survived hits from Kaido/Big Mom and then beat King (who had catastrophic level attacks) than I'm assuming Zoro diffs Kaku. It's probable that he beats Lucci as well. I would assume because Luffy was just having fun fighting Lucci showing the gap between them.
