To me, Zou signifies the end of One Piece. I don't mean that in a negative way either, I mean it in terms of the story, especially in Chapter 818. The introduction of the Road Poneglyphs gave us a clear road to Raftel and the information that two of the Poneglyphs are in the possession of two of the Four Emperors sets up a fight with some of the heaviest hitters of the New World, essentially cementing the Straw Hats as a notable force in the One Piece world (kinda like what happened at the end of WCI) and eventually the crew of the Pirate King.

Because of the colossal length of Dressora and Whole Cake Island, Zou tends to really slip my mind. Which is a shame, because Zou achieved so many things in such a short time; the reunion of most of the Straw Hats, a new species in the One Piece world, a super cool island (like COME ON! An ENTIRE island on the back of an elephant?! That was the last thing I would have thought of! Good on you, Oda-sensei!), the flashback of a battle that lasted 5 days, the foresight of how to reach Raftel, the incoming encounters against the Yonko, the huge alliance, the reveal about the business on Wano, the temporary defeat of one of the Yonko's right-hand men, and the three way split to get Sanji and the printing of the Road Ponegliff from WCI, the trip to Wano, and get Marco. SHEESH! That's so much, I don't know if I listed everything or not! 😂

Great, succinct story, letting the "B-Team" strawhats get some good action, all the cute scenes with characters that don't usually get enough of them like Brook, the return of Bepo, the lovely Wanda and Carrot, Chopper getting a potential post-series GF to have actual natural kids like himself with, our first 1B bounty, some aweosme Kaidou (and Jack himself) buildup, the heart-shattering showcase of loyalty and Raizou himself being a classically Oda hilarious concept for a ninja, the revelation of the Road Poneglyphs and the endgame being defined... Yes, I'd give Zou two paws up.

Yup Zou is definitely one of my favourite arcs- for all of the reasons you so eloquently mentioned and of course the Nekomamushi song! The return of Bepo and the Heart pirates was also pretty sweet :) It is also the first arc I read fully in the manga so I might be biased xD

The way that they're traveling together and the way she acts about the outside world I would be extremely surprised if Luffy didn't ask her to join by the time they are done with the alliance's mission. It's just a feeling I have. I also think Jimbei is gonna come in with a clutch save during the Wano arc like he did in the Whole Cake Island arc. I also tossed around the possibility of Marco joining the Straw Hats, but I feel like the odds of that are extremely low. Especially since the ship already has a doctor.

Can not describe in word how great the Zou arc is. It effectively set up straw hats for conflict to come in form of 2 overwhelming yonko....as well as incredible start of reverie arc. The revelation about koujuki clan ,road poneglouph, raftel and marco are crazy enough..also sanji leaving and raizou is safe moment was great. Nekomamoshi,carrot and Pedro becomes all time favourite character.... all that feature in a little arc.Thank you GODA.

It was a short visit to Zou, and most of it occurred (via flashback) when the main action was on Dress Rosa. Like you said though, the amount of content and lore building this arc contains is phenomenal to say the least. Not to mention a tribute to Kishimoto-san's manga finishing its initial run in Japan (through Raizou) is definitely nothing to sneeze at. Break out the lasagna and let's sit under the Great Whale Tree to show deference to the Straw Hats (and Caesar) healing the Minks and to the mysteries of the Mink tribe set up in this arc, and expanded upon in Whole Cake Island. Rest in peace, Pedro *sips sake* and also a toast to Inuarashi and Nekomamushi, the newest additions to the "badass old people in One Piece" list from this arc, who fought against a Calamity for 5 days and 5 nights and only lost thanks to Jack fighting dirty with a chemical weapon. *gulps sake*

I probably agree with you on everything here. Glad to see Nekomammushi/ Cat Viper get some love. Zou never really dips in quality, and while you aren't going to get scenes like in, say, Marineford, it still has at least one golden moment. A unique setting that expanded upon the lore of the series, that managed to endear us to it's new characters rather well in the span of time that it possessed. I'm not far into Whole Cake Island yet but putting a "breather" arc after Dressrosa was a very good choice. The arc really does nothing wrong.

I understand shit about Zou's chronology... Jack's invasion lasted six days. On the sixth day, Jack is on his way to save Doflamingo who was taken down by Luffy this same day. Sanji and the others went for Zou in the morning and made one day to arrive, when Jack was gone, Luffy won the fight. Am I right?

About Jack I still am not so happy he as a representative for Kaido is so ineffective. I would have liked the Yonko and their representatives to be more competent and effective. To have both brains and brawn. After all the Yonko control massive territories and so they need competent people to control and run them. That's not to say he wasn't intimidating but he seemed more like muscle than a representative for the Yonko. I don't have an issue with him being under Kaido but he more seems like a subordinate or a calamity than a calamity himself.

Wow. We have very opposite opinions of Zou. It is quite literally my least favorite arc after the time skip. For many of the same reasons that you didn't love thriller bark as much. Zou in every way to me felt like it's own individual story, and not in the conventional sense. It felt as if Oda had pressed a big old pause button and laid out a new structure moving forward. Zou really doesn't have much a main villain in jack so I never felt like it was something we had to worry about. With stakes removed, I looked towards the characters and I met the minks with just as much excitement as the tontotta tribe. In hindsight looking back I like the minks a lot more. But at the time it felt like one of those movie intros where the characters we've followed for years have gained considerable strength, but now characters out of nowhere in a race that has barely been mentioned can now contest with our strawhats. It would be different if it wasn't luffy and zoro getting the blunt end of this treatment. Don't even get me started on Kinemon, momonsuke, the other guy who draws stuff and Raizo. These characters I've never liked and for 3 arcs now I've had to watch them tail along with the strawhats. When all they do is conveniently cover up plot holes and comedically get out of otherwise fatal situations. So with there being no stakes, and a awful spread of new characters for me...I was left to turn to the characters that we do have. Which, half the characters were MIA for a bit, as well as many characters didn't have any redeeming moments at all in zou. So I finally turned to the backbone of all battle shonens and that is the fights of this arc.....except they're really weren't any. Flashback fights sure, but between characters we had all just met and know survived. Overall, I don't think Zou is a good arc at all. It was a stop, drop and roll arc that I was bored, irritated and if it wasn't one piece I would say dreaded the whole way across. I'm glad you can enjoy it though, because it shows that it's not just one thing that makes an arc good to people.
