For those who are wondering why this plugin may doesn’t sound like an 1176, it is because the heritage of the processor comes from modified clones and original 1176 back in the day (origin of the mc76), the mc77 is not supposed to be another typical 1176 and that’s why they ditched the “mc76” name... and it’s ok this also considering the errors that could be made in the video when compressing some audio tracks

I always heard some pops and crackles when the comp was on. I have this comp too and it is crackling. It can't handle a short attack properly. Never get this from my waves cla76.

Lol thks a lot for the kind words ... you won t believe but in the past some created several accounts just to dislike ....crazy ...anyway this one is for me a real test for PA because unlike the focusrite or the shadow hills , 1176 emulatiions are all other the place so they had to real propose something giving a strong competition... and they did ... still some will like it or not but for me it sounds 1176 for sure

What you can say about this vs overloud 1176?

Well good question , the overloud is one of the 1176 that got its attack right , don t try to match the settings , the overloud is not set similarly to others , also it s darker while this one is exiting the high in good way (never harsh) , and the overloud tend to distord real fast if gain staging is not set right , you will notice that for that exact reason in the overloud 670 and the last comp LA they gave you digital output to be able to compensate gain post saturation ... so to sum up those are the most different 1176 you can get and very complementary , if you love 1176 you will be happy having both ... try em and report ;) I will try to over gem stuff soon ... Notice also the similiraties in options an ddifferences ...the PA set of options is deeep .... Thks for watching .

Seems to sound good, but the saturation is a bit fuzzy (reminds me of the saturation of SPL Iron in a way). Also the brief moment where you put the "ALL" mode on sounded very bad ! Not like a "ALL" mode at all to me... Super nice review as usual. Bravo poto :).

You re right homie ... but i suspect that the original HW is like that (talking about the all button set up ) for the saturation , it re.inds le the softube cl1b mkii but way more forgiving ...but like the softube ... you gotta be carefull ..but franky i simply love what it does to the lows ... without any sidechain !

@@ZozillaThaGreat It is not impossible indeed. For instance the 2-1176 has a terrible ALL mode imho. Yep the saturation is a bit farty too me, I don't it it benefits to be pushed to much in that territory. 1176 are super hard to emulates because of their super fast timing that generates a lot of aliasing and weird distortion in the plugin world.

Hi Zo, what do you think of the attack characteristic of the IK 1176? is it on par with this one?

Will need to really A/B to be precise but from what i remeber , the purpule is more nervous and distort way faster , it's a little brighter (in the sens of it exits transient material) , both case you have a solid contender , question of taste , i would say the IK is more an all arounder , the 77 is more ballsy ;) Options you get with the 77 are more complete , it's another factor to take in consideration

If you see my video on the Gem 76 , i did a quick A/B between both , they're different , the HW also is ..the purple is i less forgiving that the gem , but when you're in the sweet spot , it's exellent , for percurssif gem is great , for voice i would favor the purple , it bring the right exitement ...

Yep Tom ... true , of course noticed that ...notice that i used the sessions staked with the Focusrite Console we used on previous video ...and vsti all opened ... but also notice i m in studio one ...i m gonna def be back to sonar when doing heavy or complex videos ... Thks for pointing this out ...as a reminder . Hope you spoted anyway the action of this beast that i pushed on purpose ...really a great release ...it s also cpu heavy versus usual PA ... @@ZozillaThaGreat Absolutely! Just saying.. I'm like pretty shocked actually the way PA voiced that beast - like what it does with all it special capabilities is quite amazing. I've never been a fan of 1176 plugins, almost never ended up using them. But this is different! The attack sounds far more natural und musical to my ears and the special features are super nice as well, the sound that is possible with the mono and stereo spread, especially when you do it in M/S - its' intense, super wide sound! And the overall balance capabilities with all the parameters available is fantastic! This thing sounds! And makes a solid impact on drums without any visible compression just balancing ins and outs by gain staging and setting attack & release... boom!!

Exact , didn' t expected that much with all 1176 i already have ....def a solid one , this option might questionnable for guyz staked with 1176 but for new cats that need classic comp this one is def inthe top 3 native to consider !! ( didn't tried the Black Rooster one yet)

I would buy all plugin Alliance plugins if they would go back to implementing this soundgrid DSP versions for Studio rack they started making them like that and then they stopped now they only have like one two three I don't even know versions soundgrid versions

At around 9:30 and later: I'm sorry, Zo, but the compression you dialed in destroys the character of the drum elements. Neither the kick nor the snare are recognizable. They sound like squashed into pancakes. Bon appetit!

Lol you re right , now take another objectif look and judge the track not the elements ... and listen to it like if you never listened to the original ....done ? No imagine the original is the processed , witch one would you validate ...? This the whole art of mixing , what the track asks for not what i want or considere good ;) ...that said at the end all stays higly subjectif , and no bad decisions except the non conscious ones ;) Bonne appetit lol and thks for watching and sharing woth us;)

@@ZozillaThaGreat Yeah, I see your point, it's a good argument. However, I do think that the *sound* of the original kick and snare are much better suited to the track, they have a warm character that suits the retro style of the track. The compressed kick and snare sound more generic and cold, especially the snare sounds like sth for a heavy metal track. Think about why you chose that kick and snare in the first place! You must have thought it suits the style of music, no? Then you take a compressor and change it all completely! 😉🤔😃

Valid point ....to be honest and fair , i would go half way on the compression , i confess i hit hard sometime in KZbin to make peopel clearly spot the signature , but ath the expenses of real mix decisions scenarios , i gotta do some full mixes stuff to show it's a question of smooth subtil moves ....remark noticed !!
