Personally, I think the most difficult part of the installation is to unscrew the screws, they sit tight so easy to strip. So if one day you are confident enough to take it a try, I suggest you buy a professional screwdriver kit with different sizes and types of tips. That will help the installation easier.

The Y00 screwdriver included slips a lot and stripped 2 of the screws. I had a Y1.5 (40mm) luckily and found that it worked much better incase anyone is having trouble opening the casing.

Awesome video. Was able to do this without much issue. One mistake i did notice was that you reconnected the ZR button cable upside down. I had connected mines the same way as you but notice that it was working. Found out i had to turn it upside down to get it working again. Other than that, pretty easy job when doing it slowly.

Just so you know you put the ribbon cable in backwards! The red side at the end should face up! I did this and my ZR stopped working! Hope this helps if anyone else had this issue!

How the HELL do you guys remove the first 4 screws that simple with your original tri wing screwdriver that comes with the kit??? I really need help before I strip them all.

In the video we did not use a new Joycon, which makes it looks easy. If you use the tools come with the buttons, please do it carefully, line up the screws with the tri-wings screwdriver, make a down-forward pressure and then start to screw it out slowly. If you can find a Y00 screwdriver with a big handheld somewhere, it will make thing easier.

Even though this video was from a year ago and people probably already know this, you can definitely see that although the video is sped up, it takes a while for them to take the ribbon-wires out. For anybody who has never taken out a ribbon-wire, they are extremely delicate and can break easily. I suggest looking up a video on how to disassemble the ribbon-wires so you can get a full explanation.

You can actually prevent it with the anti-drift mod if you take it apart. Real easy too, just put a bit of paperboard in the right spot

I got my extreme rate shell joycons, backplate, and buttons and was able to successfully do everything except for the home button. The button comes separate and I believe it's just supposed to pop in the clear part but it won't stay in no matter how much pressure I put, maybe it came defective, I don't know but I'm making sure to line up the parts. @@left6044 We've updated the screwdrivers to the metal one, that's what you got. Nintendo made the screw tide, and they are too small, that's why they are difficult to take out but easy to strip. So when you do take the screw out, you have to hold the joycon/console very tide, and use a hard forward force on the screwdriver, and then start to screw slowly. I got a white shell and the blue/purple glittery buttons, and with this setup the R button seems to stick. I will do a lot of test clicking, and after about a minute or so of clicking it simply gets stuck, and remains so until I disassemble everything and jiggle it a little. Any thoughts?

There a fix for stuck shoulder buttons. My L and R bumpers click fine off the spring and everything but once I close the shell, pressing the bumper doesn't bounce back upon press and just gets stuck.

Got the mint green one. Love the color but the tool stripped my screws and had to drill out one of them to where now my blue joy con is messed up. I finally got to switch the blue to the mint and now the joy con is coming apart. Not happy at All. I ordered different Y tipped screwdrivers meant for Nintendo but your tool stripped them all. Now I ha e to get new joycons. There goes more money. Should of just left my switch alone.

Purchased and re-shelled my joy con, but now my “+” button won’t work. Now I can’t take it back apart because the screws have become to horribly stripped and I barely even used any pressure on them. Not disappointed in the product, just the circumstance....

ExtremeRate no it wasn’t stuck jut not responding, i loosened the screw. Now i have an issue with screwing down the rail on the left joy con. The screw gets going around and around without tightening. I just closed it but if i open it the rail will fall right out. Can i return it? Bought it from amazon

If you have the home button, then you will also get a small piece of clear plastic. Combine the home button with the clear piece, and that's it!
