If Slot and the scouting team identified Zubi as the right fit I don't see the issue in going back for him if he's changed his mind. Yes Gravenberch has been brilliant, but he can't play every single minute of every game. Also allows us to rest Mac, or even move Mac into 10 and rest Szobo, gives so much more quality depth to the midfield. If it's true, then go for it.

Why are people so insecure honestly, he didn’t turn us down for money or some other team, he initially said yes then EVENTUALLY turned us down for his boyhood team, if he’s reconsidered then go get him, does he improve the squad? Obviously, we need midfielders and very specific midfielders, not just any old lumps.

True longevity wise i would still take zubimendi. I mean true indeed that grav is cooking teams on apple wood low and slow but when the injuries start to happen you would wanna want legs to carry the momentum of the team. God forbid grav gets injured but longevity wise tbh we sort of need zubimendi

Chris even if we signed Zubimendi it doesn't mean that Gravenberch would be dropped !!! .Slot is playing à double pivot in midfield so Zubimendi and Gravenberch can play together with either Macallister or Sozbo in front of them. LFC are more 4-2-3-1 under Slot than 4-3-3 as it was under Klopp. One thing I would say is that Zubimend must hand in a transfer request first this time so we know his not fooking around.

Get Zubi, you get flexibility. Ryan can play 8, Macca 10, or Curtis 8 and Harvey 10. Lots of games needs lots of bodies. Endo incidentally would still play a key role covering injuries with the amount of games.

Important to know he didn't outright reject Liverpool, he 'opted' to stay home, which is more than understandable (and commendable in this day and age). I've had a feeling about this Zubi situation and posted this message more than once...he actually wanted to join us ...but his wife and family plus his club talked him out of it ...and his loyalty was used as a means to help them all pressurize him into changing his mind at the last moment...the club, his family have had enough time to realise that a few years in rainy Liverpool would be good for him and them....his heart said yes ....they said no ...he's obviously a loyal type of character....I hope he he comes to our team ! 😊YNWA

Only thing that annoyed me was he kinda messed us about. If he said he wanted to stay at his club from the start or early on it would be completely understandable. My guess the club said it would be unfair for him to leave after they sold a few key players already

Blessing of this situation is we tried Gravenberch as the holding midfielder which might not have happened if Zubimendi signed.Really need to see if Nunez,Jones and Endo are worth keeping though and rather choose quality over quantity.

Get him but pay him less to start then you would for making hughes look bad. At the moment hes a bench player behind grav and mac. Let him earn his way in. Despite the basic journo chat, we know little of what happened… for all we know, his club leant on him to stay - to not lose multiple star players at once, with no proper replacements sorted - but with agreements it would be different in January. I don’t see us going there again unless something like that was firmly known in private talks. If we do go back in, think it would have been set up to do so. Not because he decided on a whim to pull on that string again.

What most don’t understand is that he would have had to buy out his contract which is complicated tax wise. If we go for him in Jan and the clubs agree a fee where he doesn’t have to pay it out then I think the deal gets done. We need to be patient like Madrid, if he’s the guy we really want tell him to run down his contract to a point where the other club has to sell. Ciasa was like this maybe Gordon will be to. We are a massive drawing card so let’s use it to drive prices down, take our time and always improve the first team! YNWA

i never considered that this could be a tactic by Zubimendi's agent to get his money up...I respect his reasons for staying, I can't fault the guy because it is his boyhood club. But lets say it's not a tactic, and he has changed his mind...what happens if Gravenberch retains this form and solidifies his position, is Zubimendi going to accept a squad player role? Is he then going to have regret again? If that question can be answered then we will see.

I don’t care about crying that he said no. That’s just feelings overriding logic. What we want is quality players and depth and there are very few Grecenberches and Zubimendis in world football that suit us so rather than wait years for another Zubinendi just get him. We don’t want our rivals to have that talent working against us. However as punishment he will have to front up more of the buyout clause from his own cash :)

It’s over. People here doesn’t realise how a football team works and always think “the more the better”. An organisation has their internal pecking order and there’s only a finite minute for players in a position. If you already have the right player in one position, adding a similar player with similar quality will cannibalise each other. If Zubi comes, RG will have to take a backseat and will likely become the RG of last season cuz he’s sure when he’ll have his minutes when Zuni plays. What they need instead is a cheaper backup that can take 5-10 games per season for RG to take a rest, or 10-20 mins per game. A viable candidate will be angel Gomes or ideally Tyler Morten if he steps up like quansah and Bradley last season. The extra money should instead be spent on a left sided CB or a real quality no. 10 that delivers more consistent basis to put Szobo as backup (which is his true capability at LFC).

Forget the "boyhood club" shtick! Sociedad is not the level of club that Liverpool was/is in the case of Gerrard. Even with better terms - more money, etc - the lure of a top European club for a top player would overcome the feeling of a boyhood club, particularly when the latter is never going to be a leading club.
