@@Yannick9797 100%. I left FB in 2018 because I kept getting censored for being unable to even reply what 'certain people' said, not even copy-pasted. (same is happening here in youtube as well) The last straw was a girl literally insulting a guy in a comment section for agreeing with my take. So I told her: "you don't know he's any of those things any more that I know you are either, so don't say 'that.'" Banned! I appealed, but the moderator said "you are banned for 24 hours only if you delete your comment." Meanwhile, her comment remained. So I deleted my account. A few hours later, I received an email saying "there was an error and my account is no longer restricted" LOL! I was like: "Nope! Delete it anyway."

Can’t something both be a public platform and a private company. I mean Twitter is the ultimate example of this. Yes they can do whatever they want on their platform. If Zuck wanted only conservative ideas or liberal ideas on his platform he can do that. It’s an open market, the idea is that if people don’t like the censorship then a new platform would appear that allows for more freedom of expression that people will turn to. If you want to compare it to a public square than it can be a public square. It’s just that this square is in private property owned by Zuck and he can kick out anyone he wants if he wanted to.
@colwellalec15 күн бұрын
Yep exactly why I always hate when people make that argument, especially when it is in favor of censorship. The upside about free speech is that you get to say what you want. The downside of free speech is that everyone else gets to say what they want. Equality is simple, everyone is protected, or no one is protected. Having protections for some and not others is never equal.

I gotta say, none of the LGBT+ persons I know are anything like these parades. The parades give me vibes of what an opponent would do to characterize them as being strange and potentially mentally ill. I don't understand why the parades aren't just a bunch of super normal looking people walking down the street so people would be like: "What's that?" "LGBT parade" "Oh, it's just looks like a bunch of people walking." "Exactly" Instead of being like: "Oh no! Why'd they tar and feather that guy?!" "They didn't... He's just gay." "😮"

Accusing someone of being mentally ill isn´t inherently an insult. It just may be a genuine assessment and done out of care for the individual being accused. "Dude, wake up, you´re not well, seek help!" Labeling things like this as "hate speech" is narrow minded. Just because someone gets emotionally hurt by a comment someone else made doesn´t automatically mean that hate was directed at them. And who decides if something is hate or done in good faith and if it´s ok or not? Should you get more protection from hate (or percieved hate) if you assign yourself with a certain label? All this gets very complicated if we don´t respect the principle of free speech. Otherwise we´ll ban speech based on the subjective opinions of those in power.
@pvshka15 күн бұрын
It's, in fact, not an accusation at all. To accuse means to imply someone did something wrong. You don't have to do anything wrong to be mentally ill, it's just something that can happen, through no fault of your own.

probably a language error here but you can't "accuse" someone of mental illness, that doesn't make lexical sense given the definition of these words

Any subsidized social media platform should be subjected to hateful speech because they are protected by the billion/trillion? dollar 230 public subsidy. The platforms should have tools built into them that allow the individual users to mute other users in a thread or completely. Government should not be involved, unless actual laws are broken. If the platforms want to fore go the 230 protection, they can become publishers and publish what they want with the caveat of being sued for defamation or liable.

@@Vaycanseee You sure about that? The people who demand free speech are the most terrified by it because they for some reason have no comprehension that others can use words. @@WaffleExplosion99 I know you're probably a bot, but I feel this needs to be clarified for any people who see this thread: No, your opinion or feelings on something don't change what it is. Just because you "believe" what you say doesn't change whether it is or isn't hate speech, in the same way that you disagreeing with something doesn't change whether it is or isn't hate speech. One would hope that people who talk so much about seeing wrongs done to them wouldn't turn around and do the exact same hypocrisy, but much like your father, I remain disappointed.
