Realistically, this is a battle between two incredibly high-powered, low durability fighters. Zuko wouldn't survive an explosion to the face, Roy wouldn't survive being incinerated. It really comes down to who strikes first. Hell, I can imagine a scenario where Zuko shoots a stream of fire, Roy snaps and kills him, and then Roy dies to the fire blast.

Tbh, Zuko survived a number of Explosions on at his face. The Pirates exploded his ship, he made a shield using Firebending and survived, Combustion man threw a projectile at him, he blocked that too. He even survived a direct explosion in the episode Bata from the Watertribe when he accidentally ignited a perfume barrel which sent him and Aang flying

mustang doesn't only need to attack through his snapping. his gloves create sparks in which he amplifies by changing the density of the oxygen around it (combustion stuff). As I was thinking about it, I realized that he could exploit the fact that Zuko can create fire out of literately nothing (breaking the laws of physics because MATTER CAN NOT BE CREATED OR DESTROYED) and just amplify everything he's creating right in his face thus killing him.

Mustang should def have won low diff.

The thing here though is that he should also be able to redirect Zuko's flames because of what his alchemy is. Snapping just provides him with a flame but with flames already present all he needs is the alchemy that he can perform with his transmutation circles.

It's kind of hilarious how the animation here looks way better than Zuko vs Todoroki, even though I'm pretty sure they used the same sprites for Zuko. I guess they've just gotten a lot better at the puppet animation over time.

They even added some lighting to the sprites for a few scenes near the end. There was a beautiful rim light around both Roy and Zuko. They never did that in the Todoroki fight. The team has definitely improved since then, and I"m looking forward to more well animated fights in the future!

Regardless, having actually seen both versions of Full Metal and Avatar personally, I can say that, with the at their peak rule in place, not only would this be a close and interesting battle, but ultimately; I'd have to give it to Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist. (His whole stick was always to have a weakness to lose, so he could show you you where wrong... again... about his second pistol, the extra gloves {which is where he pre-draws circle, usually}, his pocket lighter, even a few tricks he picked up from the Elric boys.)

Mustang doesn't just snap and make flames. He literally controls oxygen density. If he wanted to he could instantly combust Zuko's eyeballs from quite far away and reduce them to a bubbling grease like with envy. And after the truth Roy doesn't need a transmutation circle. He can do wayy more than create simple flames (but when he tries it's GG he can create sozin comet level flames). Honestly FMA characters are done so dirty in these death battles. Edward losing I get it but Mustang would stomp zuko instantly until he's ash.

Zuko has survived countless explosions to the face unharmed, like when the pirates blew his ship up right in the beginning of the series, or when he took attacks from combustion man to the face. Considering he's a consistent lightning-timer, he is more than fast enough to shield from any of Roy's attacks and land a killing blow with his swords. You know, exactly like Bradley was about to do when they fought. He's another sword-wielding lightning timer and Roy was completely outmatched.

@@r4nd0mguy99 Well, duh, ATLA is literally one of the most popular shows of all time in the west (not to mention praised as one of the best), so ofc Zuko's gonna be more popular, and the fact that it's for virtually any age means that more folks are gonna remember it and its characters. FMA is great, but since it's geared to older audiences (not both adults, teens _and_ kids like ATLA), of course less people are going to be as familiar with it as they would be with ATLA. Not to mention Zuko's redemption arc and character development over the course of the series is rightfully praised as one of the best in any story; Roy's development as an Alchemist moving on from the tragedies he caused and his near-fall to bloody vengeance is epic, but it's easily arguable (and indeed seems agreed upon judging by the votes) that Zuko's characterization took it by far. If anything, I'm surprised that you were surprised by Zuko being that much popular, given these facts have been known for a long time now.

Ozai literally fought an inexperienced Zuko who wasn’t willing to fight so that doesn’t count either. Katara beat him because of a full moon which powered her up, and Aang can’t beat Zuko alone without the avatar state and team avatar. Think about it.

Great fight~ though feel like Roy would most likely win this one since against zuko he wouldn't even need to snap. He uses alchemy (the circle in his glove) to make the air combustible and his gloves are coated to create a spark when he snaps to ignite the gas (why he's useless in the rain, no spark). thinking about it Roy is more of an air bender than a fire bender xD.

Zuko is much faster than Roy being able to redirect lightning. That and he could just fire bend any of Roy’s attacks. I see people say he could just take away his oxygen but has never shown that during the show or manga. As soon as his gloves go it’s game over. If you want to include the alchemy he learns at the end you do realize he is *blind* when he gets it right? Even still it won’t make up for the overwhelming fire power Zuko has.

@@gwenjen101 Using alchemy would barely help him here due to Roy having the better attack power 3.4 tons of tnt < 13 tons of tnt so Zuko could just one shot. Also do you know what reaction speed is? He dodge and redirected lighting even with the movement that is still massively hypersonic which is better than anything in Fullmetal Alchemist. He could react to anything Mustang throws at him before it lands and hit him before he could react. Even if we equalize speed here Zuko still have better durability and Attack power with flames.

@@DHworldwide185 You realize Roy could just make the air around Zuko flammable? If Zuko so much as makes a spark, he’ll burn himself before he can actually do anything to Roy. And yes, it happens in the show. He raised the oxygen density around a woman to the point she became dizzy. Roy doesn’t have a real limit to how destructive his flames can be. Transmuting enough oxygen determines how destructive his flames will be. And since oxygen is practically everywhere, that won’t be a problem. And yeah bending lighting is pretty impressive, but context is important. He’s able to redirect lighting because he prepares himself before a bender shoots lighting. I’m not going to pretend that Zuko moving towards the direction of lighting wasn’t impressive, because it was, but he still wasn’t fast enough to properly redirect that lighting. Had it not been for Katara, he would have died. His durability is hardly better than Roy’s. He’s not even resistant to his own element. I mean just look at his scar. Even with a faster reaction time, Zuko is completely outmatched by a lot of other categories. And even if he’s able to make the first attack, like I said in the beginning, Roy can just have Zuko’s flames ignite the oxygen around him. It will severely burn Zuko since he’s not at all fire resistant. Say that Roy doesn’t go there. Say that Zuko manages to block the flames. Roy could just send another, and another, and many more in a rapid rate. Hell, he can even send his flames in multiple directions in just one snap.

Strength, speed, and H2H is in Zuko's ballpark. Reaction time guarantees that Mustang is never hitting Zuko. That is why I brought it up so forget about "taking away his oxygen" He would be pressed to even land an attack. "prepares himself?" That is cap go rewatch his fight with Azula he redirected it AFTER it was fired. Zuko also has fire power in the bag with calculations. Being 13 tons > 7.5 tons. That is assuming he even scales to Kimblee. "Roy doesn't really have a limit" Google the term *No limit Fallacy* then get back to me. Not resistant to his element? Like Roy you mean? You also neglected that fact that if Zuko destroys his gloves he is dead meat. If we are using Roy after he regain his vision he still loses because that doesn't improve his speed or attack just that he can use normal alchemy now. Which is *still* negated by Zuko still being much faster.

@@Silent_Fool I mean, considering that this Fire Lord has Avatar Aang on his side (who Death Battle _proved_ has feats of power and speed _WAY_ above FMA characters like Hawkeye, Mai or even Alphonse and Edward), there's not much they can do about it given Aang could and would just crush them no-diff if they tried going after one of his friends (notice that as far as we can tell, Mustang actually instigated the fight and attacked Zuko first, so no way Aang wouldn't take Zuko's side).

@@MrEcoho Nope; Aang's Seismic Sense became comparable to Toph's (which could sense things _continents_ away), no sniper round in the world can go that far. Aang would easily sense the sniper, bend the bullet out of the air (either redirect it with airbending or set up a 10-foot-thick wall of solid earth) and then crush the idiot who tried to kill him. Set and match, and the sniper is very dead (or imprisoned cuz Aang hates murder). Too bad.

Because he's known to be a swordsman in the series who dual-wields and fought many canon battles in the show using swords alongaide firebending. Also no, it's not clear he doesn't have them on them when these animated fights have proved characters can carry weapons outside of our sight before taking them out to use (like Naruto and Ryu Hayabusa pulling out so many weapons in their fight), that's just basic Hammerspace, everybody knows about this so nothing to complain about.

Zuko usually has his swords with him throughout most of the series. They just didn't animate them on his sprite because that means more work for the animator. Its a common thing to leave out of a sprite until needed, just like a lot of video game sprites don't show sheathed/holstered weapons until they are in use.

Like @Sipri_M said, this is DBX, if you were expecting accuracy to the canon material then too bad, it's been clear from the start that votes decide the outcomes (also a sidearm would literally be useless against Zuko since he reacted to lightning that is hundreds of times faster than the fastest bullets, any fired bullets would be moving in slow-motion to him whereas the swords are obviously plenty useful on Roy 6:32). Deal with it.

Honestly ROy would have just gotten enough distance an triggered an explosion so massive and violent Zuko would have been blown to pieces. Love both characters but Zuko wouldnt be durable enough and Roy could trigger an explosion far before Zuko could make any action so shouldnt have been close.

It is wierd that Roy hasn't tried to use gun or something. But Zuko would probably still win, he's more versatile fighter, has lotta tricks like flying and lightning, and Roy, afaik, only shot fire by snapping. Powerful, but not diverse.

The Morphing Grid power source also gives them knowledge and enhanced martial arts, from previous generations. In short the power grid and coins improve what they can do (They don't have superstrength in human form)
